Anyone else really like outlast?
>>738838312 whistleblower dlc is way better than the base game
no it sucked, i got into the building and ran from a guy then figured out that's the entire game, pretty lame overall
>>738838540It's just the same game but shorter?
>>738838662>but shorterand edgier. the first game kinda drags on
>>738838540>hear 3 people talking through the walls>its revealed to be 1 crazy person talking to themselves in different voiceskino
I'll always think this game and its DLC are fucking awesome. Such amazing execution of being a normal dude trapped in an absolute batshit place. A huge expansive compound full of hallways with occasional murderous psychos trotting around, feels like you are going through a layer of hell.Love the ending of both. The end of Whistleblower was such genuine nail biting thrill.2 was alright. Had some decent horror and an interesting story but fell flat on being memorable at all. The witch looking pick axe killer doesn't even hold a candle to Walker.Trials is a very cool game but its relentless critique of religion, capitalism, and governments gets old pretty quick. A good portion of it is pretty tasteless.Still very fun though. Their latest killer who is that nun lady who hides and ambushes you is great.
>>738838582dont go upsetting the r/gamers. they like this empty jump scare slop and have a melty when you tell them you can just run to the end and clip out of bounds literally anywhere as the game is lazy streamer bait
>>738838312I want toI like the setting, the presentation, art direction, etcBut the game itself is so incredibly shallow it's laughable to think it's supposed to be a full game90% of the game is just you running from someoneOnce you get past the first Walker segment you've basically seen all the game has to offerActually, I think Outlast/Amnesia is the perfect encapsulation of why horror games don't really work as "games">The reason the game is scary is because you can't defend yourself, you can only run>But once you've fully accepted all you can do is run, the game becomes much less scary because you know the game can't really do anything that can't be fixed by just running away>Game becomes boring, you aren't scared anymore, and because you aren't scared anymore you lose interest in playing>But if you add anything more to it you'll ruin the appeal it has by making it like other survival horror gamesThese kinds of games you can only really play once
>>738839313I know I don't speak for most people here, but I think that always having to run or hide is fine as long as the setting and characters are interesting. Which they are.
>>738838312>>738838540Outlast 2 > Outlast DLC > OutlastAnd all 3 are better than every other horror game made in the last 12 years.
NO>NOT A GAME, LITERALLY HIDE AND SEEK WITH OBJECTIVES>CONSTANT GAY OR REGALIA FOR SUCH>LE RANDOM QUIORKY SCIENTISTS LE KILL PSYCHOS!>NO ACTUAL FIGHTING TAKES PLACE AT ANY TIMEKIDS GAME
>>738838312stopped being fun and scary after the first 10 minutes.
>>738838312First one was great. Second one is fun but the "religion is eeeeviilll" theme is gay and the twist being "ackshually it was science all along!!" was really stupid
>>738838312I am really enjoying playing Outlast Trials with my Dad. Played for quite a few hours earlier on but picked it up again recently and it's making me smile and giggle.
>>738838312I like Outlast Trials. It's a really fun game.
>>738838582>>738839147ive noticed a trend on steam, if the game isn't very good but it has a scary baddy that you have to run from so streamers can spaz out on camera it's rated overwhelmingly positiveI can name another clunky mediocre game that takes place in a haunted house in a zombie city, that requires you to collect puzzles pieces to progress while you out run a big scary invincible man. I tried to play through as the different characters and finally it dawned on me as policeman run b, why the fuck am I playing this?
>>738838312I had fun with the permadeath achievement, absolutely cheek-clenching experience running from this fat fuck in that underground water room.
>>738838312>Loud violin, the gameit's normalfag core slop
>>738839838I mean all games are simply progressing the avatar from one point to the next, moving an extension of the player's input to focus on objects and clicking or holding a button down. Crossing off checklists, holding down or alternating pressing buttons until a variable turns into a non-variable, making numbers go up. Why do anything really?
>>738839771>religion is eeeeevil"Huh, is just mass hysteria in a highly religious secluded village, with the protagonist past trauma also being related to the theme, the shared visions and delusions being related to the topic made sense and it was perfectly executed, not sure if the intention of the developers was to shit on religion but it just made everything feel way cooler to me, think in Evangelion>Anno: I just thought it looked cool mang
>guys raping each other>the most physically powerful men go around killing people, other men just try to avoid them>the smartest most sane men just try to avoid everyone else or stick together>sadists doing as they please to vulnerable people>people getting into fights, attacking each otherthis game is literally just what would happen in an all-male society
>>738839771>>738840017Phillipe Morin has done a few interviews in French and in traditional online media. The guy just really likes weird gruesome shit, 1 was just inspired by crawling Wikipedia articles and other gruesome shit regarding human experimentation by the US government. 2 was inspired by Jonestown. Ultimately it's about bad people using things to control stupid, susceptible or malleable people; whether that's technology or religion or media.
>>738840107>muh menstfu foid
>>738838312>batteries running out in ten seconds, so if you like exploration fuck youGot tired of this bullshit way before the end. I think I got near the end, when there's a storm and you are outside, and also ghosts or whatever are making an appearance???
>>738839838>make realistic horror game set in america>protag is sergeant MacDonut Le Chub>asylum denizen shows on screen rambling about schizo shit>18 rounds emptied into his torso the next second, no warning shot, McLard screaming " DROP THE GUN " for 15 minutes to a corpse, body camera obfuscated, American flag praised, credits roll cool game
>>738839734>NOT A GAME, LITERALLY HIDE AND SEEK>NOT A GAME, LITERALLY A GAMEDoes you think games is only when you kill stuff? Are you not aware that hide and seek is quite literally a game?
>>738840643Shouldn't you be balding or contributing to the sky high suicide rate or something?
>>738840948No I'm quite comfy as a neet
>>738838312wanted to play it while it was released; however, had no money.
>>738840878>hide and seek is a gamecasino machines could be games with your logic
>>738839690I really like how the only time Outlast 2 makes a call back to 1 is the radio tower during the river scene which is so short you can easily miss it or forget about it entirely, and the game just works as a fairly typical rural occult horror story. The follow up to 2 being a live service multiplayer game was devastating to me.
>>738838312For me it's watching The Outlast Trials.
>>738845917Are you watching a vtumor or something
>>738844609Trials is fun but is its own thing, what sucks is that they will not work on 3 until they've squeezed the last penny from Trials...
>>738845969Nah. A guy who does A+ Psychosurgery runs with no commentary at all on console.https://www.youtube.com/@twosixNC/videosIt's not my kind of game but seeing a skilled guy dominate it is fun because I can tell how hard it is and how easy he makes it look.
>>738840643Kek>>738840948Tits, bitch. Not lip.
>>738839690>Outlast 2 > Outlast DLC cringe. had to gaslight myself so hard to continue playing that until the end IT IS SO BORING
>>738838540Their mistake was making the dlc just a dlc without barely any marketing. It should have been longer and the real Outlast 2
>>738846079Outlast 2 for some reason got a lot of paid shills these last years. They hate that the OL2 audience and the original one are completely different
I love outlast trials and the invasions but they're so hit or miss. You either get a fun back and forth where you're hiding around corners and stabbing people, or you get raped by a guy with stun rig + 2 rechargers + brick, possibly a second guy using the same loadout. Once people learned you can damage stack and kill an invader with just a single stun the invasion lobbies became painful
>>738845982>Trials is fun but is its own thingIt looks like it's fun, but I refuse to play it just because if I ever got really good at it and they did make a third game I'm worried I'd adopt gameplay like this guy >>738846035 and just brutalize the game and ruin it for myself.
>>738848405>pov you mark me on cameras and I go to wave at you before breaking the camera
>>738838312cool premise terrible execution outlast 2 was ass
