For me, it was Wuchang Fallen Feathers.Everyone here was praising its "level-design" and oldschool soulslike gameplay and vibe, but what I got was a janky soulslop that had so many unfair bosses and bullshit enemies that it felt like the devs actively hated the player. I couldn’t even refund it on Steam because the first unfair boss (Honglan) hits you right at the 2-hour mark of gameplay exactly when the refund window closes.

E33.It started out fun, I saw the hype somewhat. But then all the areas felt like a cheap asset flip game, just throwing random garbage everywhere with no artistic sense. And the music sucks, sorry I'm not into french shit. The parry mechanics just got tedious. JRPGs don't require quick reflexes, they require strategy. action games require quick reflexes but not strategy. This was melding both together, and I don't want that, give me one or the other. The story was dogshit, maybe the side content fleshes it out more but I couldn't be assed to do it.

But Elden Ring had this knack of introducing something so cool, and then you spend a few seconds with it, and it's a blow to the gut. Agheel, the dragon in the lake near the beginning of the game? So cool, a dragon swoops in out of nowhere and you're in a boss fight. But him being a boss fight in an open world isn't all that cool or unique in that game, the Tree Sentinel is over the hill, at night those big-headed birds spawn in or the nightriders, the Vanguard/Asylum Demon copy-cats. Then he just leaves if you get too far away. So it's like you can physically feel the boss arena. He only swoops in when you trigger him as opposed to any time or anywhere. Like nearly everything in the game is like that. Cool moment, actually not that cool, and there it is again. I played it, beat it, and I never got the urge to go back. But I beat DS1 last week and plan on modding DS2 to play very soon.

>>738843292IIRC the devs released a patch that was supposed to "fix" performance issues, but all it did was throttle the textures slider so that even if you set it to 100%, it still wouldn't render more than 67% or something like that. I remember that being one of the first things I heard about the game. So I decided to pirate it and check it out for myself (on a GTX 1060 and i7-7700k) and I was blown away by it. So I think it was just getting reviewbombed by butthurt people who expected the game to run better or who hated UE5 in general.
