I just played Need For Speed 2 SE for the first time, I now fully understand why I hate modern racing games, especially simulators
They are boring, bland, and lifeless compared to the vibes these classic games had right down to the visual design
They don't capture the spirit and mood of traveling along the European countryside in the summer or how cool /turnleft/ can be, as a NASCAR fan from 25 years ago these games somehow manages to bridge both for me

Word. The change happened somewhere during the 6th console generation, most obvious jump can be seen with GT3 and GT4 where they dropped atmosphere in favour of realism.

racing is organically by and made for grown old men with high testosterone, not wimpy faggots in skirts that belong in the mental ward
