Now that normal people have played it, we can admit that this isn't actually good, right?

Someone whose sole consumption is anime and anime tropes, and spends their time saying gay things to each other on Discord/Reddit.
I am convinced this game was only ever talked up as some sort of "masterpiece" because with its lack of availability only weeb autistic hyper-fans of the brand were available to tell you about it.
The fan-translation was consumable, and made the plot of the game seem okay as it is, but the dialogue writing was awful. Now that we have an official localization with more fluent and creative dialogue writing, it's more obvious that the writing in the game is just kinda so-so like the first one, and Dual Destinies, and the character designs are still some of the most hideous and nonsensical ones in the series.
Unlike the OT there's not the same witty level of irony to any of the characters. There's something wrong with the flow of the story/dialogue in these games that makes me lose focus constantly. That only happens when writing isn't good, I've noticed.

But it can do those things for the thread it starts.

I thought it was fairly solid, but then I thought most of the games were. Original Trilogy altogether is probably my favorite though. Still haven’t played the GAA games, got like 30 text boxes in and decided I should play something else, haven’t gotten back to it.

case 3 is so dogshit

You only hate it because it mocked the shit out of trump

Didn't care for the cake competition case, but the rest is solid.

Why would "we" switch opinions after "normal" people experience something? """"""We""""" don't give a fuck about what other people think.

The original game is good.
The official English release is censored garbage.

GAA was weirdly demotivating to play but after playing up until Case 5 and forgetting about it for 4 years, I just picked it up again and finished the first one, and loved it.
I think it's because GAA is asking you to invest entirely in a new cast, and the writing is more advanced than T&T's level of writing where the storytelling is well paced but there's a sophistication in the back-and-forth that makes it feel like a mountain to climb.

I prefer the brevity and lack of assumptions in the very first Ace Attorney. The writer didn't yet know it was going to be as good as it was, so you can tell the first cases were written to the best of his ability but without "trying" to be elaborate, while everything since Trials & Tribulations has become self-aware that it needs to be "up here" in quality.

I enjoy parts of AAI and AAI2, but I find that all of those non-Takumi games have a bad habit of sorta making the dialogue drone on. I don't know what it is. But I just catch myself not having paid attention to the dialogue often, where it's kinda like "why should I care?" but they're going at length about some logical detail, but it doesn't feel interesting?

I just think the writing is very shallow in these other games. The plot fun to unravel in AAI2 because it's one that connects itself from beginning to end, but is it really that good besides just having mass-cohesion? It's unusual for these games to constantly build upon themselves from case to case, instead of being self-contained and episodic. But I find that a lot of the characters that are being connected across cases in AAI2 are types of characters you normally wouldn't give a shit about.

You have a strange concept of normal. I will not listen to any of your further opnions because you're clearly retarded.
>>
>>738860719
Nothing about this character is Trump unless you think the concept of TACO is exclusive to your president and not just a narcissist.
Also case in point, what the fuck is that design? Why do Zheng Fas in Ace Attorney have fucking "elf-ears"?
>>

Nah it's good. The first game however is bad, aside from the identity of the Yatgarasu.

>I think it's because GAA is asking you to invest entirely in a new cast,
This feels why Capcom are at a crossroads with making another new game. They're either stuck using the original cast again which has its own issues, but any attempt at a new cast also has the hurdles that comes with that as well.
>>
>>738860560
GAA was the most overrated game. Can't believe so many people told me that bloated piece of shit was the best in the series.

Unironically yes, it's my least favorite of the series. Does not emotionally hit with me and I find the cases to be tedious more often than not. I actually feel like it cheapens Miles' backstory a little.
I was so taken aback by how uninvested I felt playing the fan translation that I decided to give it a second chance for the official release years later and felt almost exactly the same way.

For a moment I thought maybe I was just tired of the AA formula but when I picked up the TGAA duology I binged it in the span of a few days and had a great time.

burgers using japanese words will never not be cringe

edgeworth game was good for one outing. to be honest I got tired of the series after Apollo, not because it's a new character, the cringe japanese humor translated to english just caught up to me.

aai2-2 is down there with turnabout bigtop for me as far as boring, monotonous cases for me honestly. did not have fun with it
also i need to say this
>https://youtu.be/Qm5IXS9dMeM
FUCK this song. It's like a parody of the kind of song you'd play during a sappy character moment. for a series known for being elevated by great music played at the right moments this instantly took me out of any scene it played in. terrible.
>>
>>738862075
Okay... but what if it actually isn't?

At this point theres been more bad assistant characters then good ones. Genuinely the worst reoccurring role.

Yep. Every time this comes in and you see Eddie Fender do his "shrug" pose, I literally went "so fucking gay."
>>
>>738863436
I like the role, but it was only good with Maya and Susato. Trucy was a bit too weeby for me. Like, I can more readily buy that a genuine asian themed village is somewhere nearby (america or not) and Maya just dresses like that. Susato isn't even out of the ordinary. She is literally just "Young Japanese girl in 1918" or something. But Trucy is a cosplayer, and so is Kay.

thats ok, I enjoy a lot of things that aren't objective good.

Assistant as the final villain when?

i am a little curious about the kind of person who greatly prefers aai2 to gaa though because while gaa is obviously the same writer as the OG treading a lot of familiar ground, i thought the tone and pacing was on-point in a really good way. it really felt like the closest thing to the original trilogy to me without being a TOTALLY paper thin rehashing of it.

>Eddie Fender
Awful change, not an uncle.
Neither "Uncle Eddie" nor "Uncle Ed" rolls off the tongue as well as "Uncle Ray" does, and both sound like they're part of an EEnE scam where Double D gets mad that Eddy stole his grandpa's old person medication and is using it to trick the cul de sac.
>>738864306
>Eustace Winner
Bad change. "Winner" is neither a name nor a pun, while DeBeste is both. Only reason it isn't truly awful is because as a whole "Useless Whiner" is a decent insult but Excelsius Winner is complete nonsense and you can't judge Sebastian's name in a vacuum because it's part of a package deal with his dad.
>>
>>738865126
>Awful change, not an uncle.
Ray Shields is retarded.
It's defender as in someone who is a lawyer. "Shields" is too close to the original japanese metaphor where they already called Edgeworth "sword" or something, and Edgeworth was the smart translation because it's only meant like sword as in "opponent" or "attacker" = prosecutor, and the sword is meant to evoke that he's sharp and edgy like a ninja.

Ray Shields doesn't remind anyone of him being a defense attorney by his name, and it also isn't a pun so it sucks.

Nah it's debeste game in the series, you're just coping and seething because you're not a real winner
>>
>>738865126
"Da Weiner" and "Winner" is a lot better than "Debeste" and "Da Pest"
And Eustace Winner is a pun while "Sebastian Debeste" isn't. Eustace Winner means "useless winner". Also his dialogue and the tone is so much better in the localization vs the fanmade one.

But the writing in the game is what sucks. The original japanese writing is unsubtle and doesn't understand the concept of pacing. It's just constant, constant, talking about "logic" and characters stepping out of their characterization to address editorial meta-text.

But the localization makes it bearable. I actually get what Edgeworth means most of the time now, while in the fan translation he made me go "psssh" a lot.
