>play a game
holy shit this is so bad, uninstall
>replay the same game YEARS later
damn, that's a really fun game

Nah, I tend to know what I'm going to like before buying it. Closest I've had is buying a game on a whim for 10 bennies and then it ending up being one of my favorite games ever.
>>
played psychonauts as a kid and stopped at the sanitarium. only after playing through a bunch of lucasarts games did i appreciate the point & click dna.

Darkest Dungeon
I thought the artstyle was cool but absolutely hated the gameplay. Years later I tried the game again, and still hated it, until something suddenly clicked and I ended up loving it.

not years later but the first time I tried infamous I thought it was shit and the fat friend character really annoying but once I got past the initial opening it got a lot better
>>
Basically Sekiro. I raged and seethed at the game for hours before it clicked at Genichiro.
In the space of two minutes it went from being an annoying slog to the most fun I'd had with a video game in 20 years.
>>
Happened to me with Nioh. Played the first when it came out, ignored most mechanics and played it like dark souls using midstance light attacks and dodge only. Came away from it thinking it was simply an annoying and lame dark souls ripoff.
When Nioh 2 came out I decided to actually learn all the intricacies of the systems and absolutely fell in love with it. Now the games are some of my favorites of all time and I much prefer them to Fromsoft's games, in terms of combat/gameplay.

>Ragequit Dragon's Dogma DA because a Chimera in the overworld aggroed and killed me several times, setting me back a bunch of hours of progress
>Pick the game up again and try to play it less like Dark Souls and actually grab onto enemies
>Have an escort quest with the goth girl
>A chimera blocks my path out of nowhere and I don't want her to die
>Chimera falls down and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTNfuztCMgM starts playing
>Game finally clicks for me and I finish it in less than a week because of how addictive it became
I feel like I'll never reach that high with another game

Yes. Multiple times.

Best I could give you would be FFV, didn't do much for pre-teen me and I only played the first quarter or so of the game but gave it another try a few years back and it became my second favorite mainline FF.
Then again little me was pretty scatterbrained in how I played vidya in general.

That said, I really don't see myself coming back to DD. Never say never and all that but it never hooked me.
>>
>first time
this sucks
>second time
I was right the first time
>>
No, the games I write off ARE as shit as I thought after all..
>>
>>738859851
Me playing Sekiro for the first time
>FUCK THIS GAME FUCK FROMSOFTWARE I'M DELETING MY 20 HOUR SAVE AND NEVER COMING BACJ
Me playing Sekiro later
>wow, that was a pretty good game! There's some bullshit with some of the bosses but I think I get it now!

It wasn't until my third time playing Rhythm Heaven as a kid that I actually enjoyed it. First ragequit was due to Glee Club, second time was from picrel.
>>
>>738859851
You tried to play it like Dark Souls the first time and it didn't work. Many such cases.

>Dark Souls
Bought it at launch as a retarded 12 year old and failed the skill check, got baited into attacking an NPC by a message, 4 years later went back and loved every second of it
>Witcher 3
Bought at launch and went "damn, this gameplay sucks", came back 4 years later after playing 1 & 2 and went "damn, this gameplay sucks, but the story's good" also modded out the fuckheaded durability system
