Basically Sekiro. I raged and seethed at the game for hours before it clicked at Genichiro.In the space of two minutes it went from being an annoying slog to the most fun I'd had with a video game in 20 years.
Happened to me with Nioh. Played the first when it came out, ignored most mechanics and played it like dark souls using midstance light attacks and dodge only. Came away from it thinking it was simply an annoying and lame dark souls ripoff. When Nioh 2 came out I decided to actually learn all the intricacies of the systems and absolutely fell in love with it. Now the games are some of my favorites of all time and I much prefer them to Fromsoft's games, in terms of combat/gameplay.
