i7-9700k
32GB DDR4
RTX 2080 Super (8G)

2560x1440 w/DLSS Performance
Settings at Medium with Textures at High and Shaders at Ultra

So far solid 60 FPS in starting area and shallows.

Tried 3840x2160 w/DLSS Performance but it was dipping below 60 so I bumped the res down.

I’m not checking the archive and I’m not home yet: was anyone here able to use their save from the leaked version, or do I gotta restart?

Also my advice to anyone starting today is to make a battery ASAP and take it to the wreckage just north of the lifepod (it’s visible from the lifepod), and put it in the wall to power that place on. You get quick access to biomods and I know it’s not easy to miss but it is possible to play for a while without bothering to do that not knowing what you’re missing out on.

The new vehicle is cool once you get the wings on it and the game feels much better to move around in. Between that and, I don’t know, the entire new fucking map full of new critters I think it warrants playing. The story feels slightly more intrusive than 1 but nowhere near as bad as Below Zero so far. I don’t disagree with anyone not wanting to buy it on account of it being early access but it’s at least not on-track to suck yet

Anon, thank you for using the correct word here. Tension. Every time I hear some retard redditor say "it was so SCARY" I want to kill someone. What the game had was tension. Tons and tons of it. There was nothing scary about it at all.

Disappointing to hear this one doesn't have that.

>There was nothing scary about it at all
I dunno reapers spooked the fuck out of me quite a few times. Ghost leviathans never really did though
>>
>>738864348
This is the correct mindset in theory. Problem is that in real-life application there’s simply no way to guarantee AI use was strictly kept to the code. If anyone working on some shit’s willing to use AI in any capacity there’s no telling where they draw the line. This Pandora’s box should never have been opened and as long as a single generative AI frontend exists, society’s dead set on a race to the bottom - just at varying speeds depending on how long it takes to sue or otherwise rescind influence from the techbro and corporate fuckheads responsible for its proliferation.
>>
>>738864348
>AI used for art or other assets is a problem though.
Why?
If I want a picture to hang on my wall, why should I care about the process that created the picture?
>>
>>738868543
Sure, but that's a simple jump scare. The bulk of what gets your adrenaline moving was all the slowly creeping around, wondering could go wrong. The deeper dives into wrecks. Maneuvering the cyclops into those super deep canyons (quickly going silent hoping for the reaper to pass you by without attacking). Waiting for the sneak attack by the teleporty dudes.

>>
>>738868672
You have to be kind of retarded not to care about your artwork having any kind of history or intent. And sure, be that way, but the existence of slop makes it harder for legitimate art to stand out or really exist at all for multiple reasons. Real art’s going to be endangered within the next decade and it’ll be a sad day for anyone who’s not a brain dead dilettante. I say this as someone who finds a lot of artists and their art obnoxious
>>
>>738863987
>Lacks any of the tension the first one had

You can thank this studio's CEO for that he basically fired an large portion of the team that made Sub1 right after it came out of Early Access, then proceeded to greenlight Subnauica:Below Zero a game that misses the point so much about what people liked about the first entry that it isn't even funny, i suspect this will be an even bigger clusterfuck.

>>738869174
By its nature AI can only ever produce something derivative of a previously realized idea, it can’t truly create in a way that even photography could. At least with photography the artist catches a unique moment in time, or better yet it records some structure that they staged. You’re right, ultimately it’s up to whatever the consumer wants and that’s why we’re ultimately fucked regarding it, but no one needed this fucking slop. Even from a price perspective, people who just wanted to “curate” from a wall of cheap shit could’ve gone to any thrift store and found swathes of pieces for a fistful of dollars. AI is an inferior creator, and worse yet its existence cannibalizes the field’s opportunities to advance not by virtue of being an innovation but by virtue of being cost effective and ultimately benefiting bigwigs who aren’t you so I don’t understand why you defend it beyond trolling for the fuck of it or out of sheer spite for fags like Keith Haring, which desu I’m not gonna pretend isn’t understandable.

Roughly how many hours of content are in the game right now?
Also how is the unfinished content gated?

Like does the game let you enter unfinished areas or collect resources and such with no purpose yet? That's one thing I didn't like about Subnautica 1, so much was spoiled by allowing you to explore unfinished areas.

Game looks amazing and as a pleasant surprise it seems to run quite well, considering it's a UE5 game.

I'm still in the starting zone but I'm not seeing how this one's lacking tension as other anons have said in this thread. I haven't encountered any leviathans yet but native predators seem much more aggressive, a lot of the early game kit that you kind of take for granted if you played the first game aren't immediately accessible, you start being basically poisoned by the water and can't even eat the native fauna until you've explored some.

Best part imo is the creature design, everything I've seen so far looks a lot less goofy than the creatures from 4546B.

Overall first impressions are good. Feels a lot more like the first game in tone than Below Zero, which is good.

Progression looks intersting and promising with some "skills" to aquire and equip. Biomes access seem to be tied to that kind of finds, and not only dive depth.
Air bladder is actually pretty useful now that you can't make an O2 tank that easily, I've yet to find one of the missing ressource, and it's probably going to be deeper. Also it's movement tech since you can use it to rise 10m above the water if you had a rapid ascent.

I've been to the edge of the safe shallows, and the depth coming 100+m deep look great and as impressive as they did in the first game.
Make sure you have proper gamma so that dark parts are actually dark.

Graphics are good, runs decent.

I've seen a tiny bit of gameplay and I REALLY hope it's just somewhat front loaded with audiologs, because I couldn't stand that shit constantly breaking my immersion in below zero. I feel like part of the reason why the first was so impactful, for me anyways, was playing the game not knowing that leviathans exist and then seeing the reaper by the destroyed ship and being like "oh shit". I know leviathans exist but I at least want to be surprised by them when I first see them. I'm probably going to have to go total blackout on Subnautica 2 content including threads like this.

Nigger this isn’t ten dudes being replaced by one factory line. The scale of it is massive, and worse yet it’s commingling with globalism’s peak demolishing domestic job markets with overseas outsourcing - and the spirit of Capitalism has always been for the cheapest but reasonably performant resource to prevail but you know what? Indians are stinky, they live like bugs, I don’t want to accept the world having to meet them at their level. AI is ruinous and again, it’s not succeeding because it inherently works, it’s succeeding because big tech is forcing it to work by guzzling billions of dollars to prop up half finished data centers, straight up lying, and borrowing time because everyone got sold on the idea so hard that it just *has to work.* I don’t like consuming AI slop, I don’t like reading articles regurgitated by it or some 3rd worlder writing for Pennie’s on the dollar. We’re all stuck in this race to the bottom but I don’t have to defend this affront to mankind and sooner or later you’re going to be like me:
>>
the meviathans in the first one aren't really scary, absolutely not scary desu, except for some gay streamers who need to entertain their audiences with fake reactions.
The real scary shit is when you're buffed to the max with upgrades and submarines, and go to some previously unrealistic depth, and then you start thinking, "what if this was real, what if I was really into that submarine and any tiny material failure could send me into real terror and death, while all looks so comfy inside that sub right now"
Then you look around through the window and notice how everything is silent and even the local underwater fauna avoid those depths
This is how real phobias set in
