I have mostly moved onto different hobbies, but I am surprised how much the modern industry is antithetical to my tastes. Both AAA and indie.Perhaps I just have too much experience playing games, and the pattern recognition is kicking in and making it all feel like a samey bore.I still enjoy arcade games, retro games, and playing party games with my friends on occassion... but I like maybe 1 new game a year and can go months and moths without playing video games and I don't even miss it. Then I see others going crazy for GTA 6 or whatever, and wonder why I can't enjoy these games like they do.
>>738865249You are very UNIQUE and SPECIALI would like to hear more of your thoughts regarding video games
I just play old vidya.
>>738865249It sounds like you’re already dealing with it, by just playing what interest you and not playing what doesn’t. If you’re satisfied from this, then just keep at it.
>>738865506We are all unique and special children of Christ my friend.
>>738865249The industry is fucking huge and different people have different tastes
>>738865249I am absolutely fine with people liking games i don't like as long as the industry is making games for me as well. But they don't. So i'm here watching everybody being happy and playing games they love and i get jack shit. Games that look okay but will never be finished because their business model is Eternal Early Access, AAAs making games that are broken and watered down and Live Service trash that i by design don't enjoy. Not much came out in 2025 or 2024 either. Pic related is my recently added games of the last years. The purchases marked i bought because there was literally nothing else even remotely interesting coming out and those games didn't look like irredeemable dogshit. If any of the unmarked games had a sequel coming out in that release window i wouldn't have bought them. The industry, and Valve, are literally profiting from the dogshit state it is in.I bought way more games but i hid all the games that are no longer representative of my tastes.

>>738866140Because literally nobody else is making that kind of game, retard.>character creator>first and third person>dialogue choices>open world>tons of shit to explore, kill, loot, level up>install mods for the infinite forever gameIf there was literally anyone else making that game i wouldn't have 50 hours in Fallout 4.
>>738866352Bethesdafags should read a book >muh characters>muh dialogues>muh immersionBooks do it better
>>738866434Couldn't give less of a fuck about whether you like it. I want that kind of game and nobody else is making it so it's either Todd slop or nothing.
AAA slop has always more or less been crap, and you've gotten over it.This is actually a good thing. it means you're developing taste. Don't play GTA6 just because you feel like you're supposed to. Play something like UFO50 instead.
>>738866752Already played UFO 50 and loved it. That was the only game in 2024 I loved besides Helldivers 2. I didnt like a single game in 2025.
>>738865918This post has to be bait. You own Assassins creed shadows you normalfag retard holy shit.
>>738865249How do you deal with it? Play the games you like. Replay them, 1cc them. I'm in the same position in the current gaming landscape, yet I still feel like I barely have enough time for the handful of new games I want to play, while constantly being in choice paralysis with all the old ones I want to revisit or explore. It helps that I also work (my dedicated internet browsing time), maintain my home, exercise, and play music. There simply aren't enough waking hours to do all that I want to do.
>>738865249...You just pick up and play the games that you like?Nigger why are you acting like your favorite games vanished from planet earth?
>>738866352>literally nobody else is making open world games with character creators and dialogue choicesHave you played... Any game that isn't a Bethesda game?Kingdom Come Deliverance, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy....At least those games look kind of good, visually.
I only play old vidya>>738865537this
>>738865249for me it was gamedev + playing weird obscure indie gamesi havent bought AAAslop in a decade
There was a remedy to people in this hobby that shared the same strong sentiments. They simply made their own game, some having such innovation that it shifted the entire industry because one dude saw and made something others didn't thought they liked.
>>738866984to be fair that anon doesn't ACKshully own ubishit gayms, picrel does
>>738865249Kenshi reminded me that games can still be made that are just for me, I dont look to modern games for my fix, I have an entire history of backlogs to try out.
>>738867045Look at the image and answer your own question.
>>738867042>1cc them.I'm not good enough to do that
>>738867313So you just choose to play really shit Bethesda games?
>>738867573No, but the greentext points are hard requirements. >>738866352 If STALKER or Metro or Tarkov(Russia 2028) or literally any Tom Clancy-ish open world shooter ticked all those boxes i WOULDN'T HAVE 50 HOURS IN FALLOUT 4.
>>738867042>1cc themNTA but I can probably count the number of times I 1cc'd games on the highest difficulty and it would be in the single digit. Mainly cause those particular games weren't really balanced properly to be 1cc'd on the highest difficulties or cause they weren't properly playtested or they were too jank. I still enjoy playing them on the hardest difficulties but going for 1cc would probably be impossible.
>>738865249The problem with modern gaming is that the industry is technically "bigger" than ever in terms of raw capital and amount of "gamers" but the diversity of video games has decreased with it being dominated by blockbuster AAA movieshit or live service slop, and many if not most studios are super safe, risk-averse and content to keep remastering/remaking old shit. Arcade games are largely dead because normies have been conditioned to believe quantity=quality, bigger budget=better game, and a game needs to be 100 hours and packed full of content like an open world theme park or its not worth full retail price.GTA6 is a perfect example of the "modern game". Everyone is excited for it like the second coming of Jesus but I really couldn't care less for it. I played GTA3, San Andreas, VC, 4&5, and they're fine for what they are and I had my fun with them but they're just ephemeral theme park-like sandbox experiences to me, not "peak gaming". They left no lasting impression on me that makes me think about it from time to time and want to replay them again. Ephemeral theme park experience, open to everyone but not really "for" anybody specifically. The only thing the next GTA can really do "better" than the last one is to be bigger, prettier, more expensive/shiny, and appeal to "gooners" with a femC who can become a fatty, but that's about it. Knowing this it will still likely be glazed with endless 10/10s, break sales records and be an instant GOTY contender if not winner. It's so predictable and tiresome.
>>738865249>How to deal with the industry not making games you like?By not being a pretentious, bitter faggot. There are plenty of enjoyable games if you’re capable of enjoying things for what they are.
>>738865249Your standards have increased, that's why. A lot of old games were extremely buggy, unfinished, and quick to finish. People didn't notice it back then because mods and multiplayer made it last longer.
>>738867850for the life of me, I don't understand how people aren't over GTA.GTA3 was really neat, the first time I played it, like 25 years ago. VC and SA were kind of neat because they added more vehicles, and planes and shit, and the map kept getting bigger. 4 and 5 were kind of more of the same, and I never bothered beating either of them. It's just so passe now. >dude, you can walk around a world and drive carsYeah? So what? There's like ten games that game out last year where I can do that. and Rockstar's mission design hasn't really improved at all. I'd have more fun lugging packages around and falling down hills in Death Stranding, because that's at least a novelty.
>>738867807each game has a method of 1ccing them, it is hard to learn on your own though. probably look up a guide
>>738868249>There's like ten games that game out last year where I can do that.Name them. Fuck it, i'll be lenient and only want you to name 3. Open world, city to explore, cars, crime, third person shooting, playing dress up, random events. Go. You claim it's been 10, name 3.
>>738865249>I have mostly moved onto different hobbies, but I am surprised how much the modern industry is antithetical to my tastes. Both AAA and indie. It is truly a blessing. I have put 99% of the gaming industry on my black list and I am enjoying Gaming more than I have ever done. I have free time for other things, when I want to game, I usually replay the games I enjoy and have an amazing time. There are some older games I am trying out too, life is good.
>>738865249Like you, I just play older games. Works fine enough. The only part I really miss is being excited about the industry at large, not just for the odd new game that actually looks alright. But I've felt that way since at least 7th gen consoles so it's not a new feeling
>>738865918>>738866352>>738866647>the typical nigger crying about le modern gaming being bad is also an actual nornalfag drone consooming AAA garbage and bethesda shitFuck oooooofYour "taste" is completely fucking shit.

I support the games that do, easy as
Maybe you just don't like or never really liked vidya and should move on with your life
>>738865249this movie is a fucking comedy that tries taking itself too seriously making it more funny than it should be
>>738865249Most people that buy games don't even play them. People did that with rdr2, they're gonna do the same with gta 6 once they discover it's actually really fucking boring
>>738868249>I'd have more fun lugging packages around and falling down hills in Death Stranding, because that's at least a novelty.I got DS on sale awhile ago for $10 and I'm glad I did because it was unironically fun and interesting to me. It's easy to meme it as a "walking sim" but it was novel and thought-provoking to me. There is something Tetris-like about optimizing how you arrange your packages on your body, there is a survival horror RE-like feeling to planning the best/safest route from A-B, and the building is neat. It's not an open world theme park game like so many modern "open world" games are; it's a more quiet and thoughtful kind of game, Kojima silly plot shit aside.
>>738868867Everything Ubisoft makes. When did the crappy Star Wars one come out? Probably like Farcry 8. >>738865249I play old games. started to learn moonrunes to play some untranslated jp retro games and even started a few translations as a hobby. also started getting into indie gamedev to make more of what I enjoy to hopefully one day share with others. but my game is shit so I keep it to myself for now.
>>738869589You didn't list a single game that is ever the same genre as a GTA(city, cars/crime, third person). And you went back like 8 years. You got nothing.
>>738865249>ugh im so special, i dont like gta 6 like the other boysgta hate reminds me of fedora atheism

>>738865249if you feel unsatisfied in your hobby you can use that as a spark for creativity
>>738868249>for the life of me, I don't understand how people aren't over GTA.for a whole generation, they've only had one gta. the target audience for 6 is not people who grew up playing GTA3/VC
>>738869817You specified that. I specified big world and cars.I'm using "year" in the rough sense, which means a decade.Plus, I didn't even mention Roblox or Fortnite. I didn't mention the Killer Bean game, which is apparently out next month. If you want games about criminals, play Yakuza. Knock yourself out. They never stop making them. Or play Mafia: the Old Country.
>>738868249>Rockstar's mission design hasn't really improved at all.The people who played contemporary GTA don't care about gameplay. They wanna drive around for a few hours, say wow, and then never play it again
>>738869939GTA was cool for like five minutes, because we weren't used to that level of open world freedom, is the point I was making. Open world isn't even the big thing anymore. We have games where you can fly space ships to different planets now. I don't care about wigger crime fantasies, and if I do want a slice of that I play Yakuza, because the storylines are more dramatic. GTA offers me nothing in this phase of my life.
>>738865249If industry won't make games i like then i will
there are over 3 decades worth of what could be considered "modern" games assuming most people aren't into the most base level atari type games that you can get into, you don't need new games, seek something out instead of waiting for the current day shitty industry to drop games into your lap that will appeal to you personally
>>738865249current year content is abysmal. The forced deiversity is way out of hand. Nothing is safe. You either only enjoy old movies and video games or you find new hobbies.
>>738870021>I'm using "year" in the rough sense, which means a decade. As i said, you got nothing. Besides Rockstar nobody is making GTA-ish games. I wouldn't even put Mafia in that same genre because it lacks the fleshed out open world and random events. Maybe Saints Row but that hasn't been a GTA-ish game since SR3. You are complaining about genre saturation of a genre with one game.
>>738867413>>738867807I threw that out there because OP said he likes arcade games. Take something like Ninja Saviors for example. It might take about an hour start to finish for a casual run, but mastering it to the point that you can 1cc hard mode with each character turns it into more like a 20 hour game. That was more a point of suggesting that he/you play and appreciate the games he/you like more deeply, regardless of gameplay structure.
>>738870354Do you really expect me to remember what came out in 2025, and what came out in 2021? it all looks and plays exactly the same. MGSV passes as a modern game.I don't care about wigger crime fantasies. it's not my thing. I only ever thought GTA was cool for the scope, and the level of freedom.GTA's writing has never been good. I may as well just watch Scarface or Breaking Bad.
>>738870185>crime fantasy>yakuzayou mean the game where you can't commit crime you just play a wholesome chungus who beats up evil villains but would NEVER EVER EVER kill them. I love yakuza too but it's just not the same thing. I do not care if you don't like GTA but it has no peers anymore and a ton of people enjoy it.
>>738870616>Do you really expect me to remember what came out in 2025, and what came out in 2021?Then don't make hyperbolic statements to express a retarded point. Lumping in every open world game released in the last 15 years with GTA just to make a point about genre fatigue is stupid and you know it. You'd have actually a point if you were talking about Souls games or extraction shooters.
>>738865249Be a chuddah
>>738868138People did notice, they just weren’t such whiny bitches as you are today.
>>738870984I mean, you can be sure there were at least ten open world games with vehicles that came out in 2025.I don't know what all of them are, because I'm not invested.
>>738866352who wants to play the same game forever and ever even if it is with mods? even total conversion mods don't change every last thing about the game fucking disgusting swine, I need different flavor of slop after a few weeks tops
>>738865249I'm "happy" with the current state of gaming where I feel like my tastes are shared by some people who want to make games for those genres.I would like more games that hit more requirements for me but everyone wants that.It could be a lot worse, and it was way worse last decade so things have improved. Also normalfags get hyped for GTA6 because the scope and perspective for their tastes are so much more narrow due to a combination of spending less time on games, and spending way more time on co-op games. Very rarely does a normalfag play something both singleplayer and longer than 10 or so hours in length.
>>738871702You are sure there were 10 open world games in 2025 but you can't name any.
>>738871734>I need different flavor of slop after a few weeks topsno one said they want to just play GTA forever, normal people just recognize that you still want the staples to exist alongside the new flavors. I like trying new food all the time but I still want a basic steak restaurant to exist in my city.
>>738872193I literally named like five. I don't see why Death Stranding 2, Star Wars Whatever or Lego Batman don't count. The MindsEye was the piece of shit I couldn't remember the name of. See, these things just come out, and no one cares, if it isn't specifically called GTA.Killer Bean looks better than GTA6, for what it's worth.
This is me. Except it's not just games but anime, manga and everything else. I also feel like I've pretty much "consumed" everything old there is worth consuming. No other hobbies either. Nothing left but despair.
I just play old(er) video games and some of the new stuff that is not garbage.
>>738872485Oh yeah, another Borderlands came out too. And Starfield. These games just drop, and no one cares.

>>738872485So you have a problem with all kinds of open worlds in general and by design? Might as well complain about all games that have guns or all games that have dialogue choices or all games that aren't linear. Your point is dogshit and you're twisting yourself into a fucking knot trying to defend it.
>>738873139No, I'm saying I don't get why GTA is still such a big deal to people when the entire novelty factor is gone.Killer Bean (an indie game) looks every bit as open world, and if anything more fun than GTA at this point, so what makes GTA6 the second coming of Christ?I can only conclude people just don't know, because they play like five game franchises.
>>738873791>No, I'm saying I don't get why GTA is still such a big deal to people when the entire novelty factor is gone.Because they really like the idea of a fleshed out open world with a densely packed city they can fuck around in while listening to the ingame talk radio shows and when they had enough of that they go back to their virtual apartment where they can watch ingame TV or drive down to the store and play dress up and then go to a bar and bang a hooker and then go on a rampage. That is the selling point of GTA and that is what no other game can offer and that is why GTA is so popular.
>>738873791>you don't need GTA6, just play lego batman and killer bean brolol how bout you kys insteadnot being able to understand why people enjoy things that you don't is a sign of low intelligence
>>738874372I enjoyed it 20 years ago, and now it's literally the same game, and I want to play a different game.
>>738874286But then you do it, and it's boring. If you want an online social life, you may as well play VR chat.
>love franchise>buy most games from said franchise between 1995-2004>shit company ruins franchise from 2004-current day>blind fanboys keep buying shit from the same company>stop buying games from same devs>play games i likethats how i deal it iti'm way past getting angry at every shit company who ruined all my favorite franchises . all . because no one was spared
It stopped being made by passionate nerdsThey took it away from autistic upper class dorks and made it mass appeal (aka the lowest common denominator)I don't enjoy internet/tech/gaming anymore either. It's not the early 2000s where it was a club for soulful somewhat above average people. Now every idiot can hop on.
>>738865249Learn to like more things/genres. Then learn how to find stuff that isn't advertised to you.
>>738868876Have you tried Aztez? You'd probably like it based on all the character action games you have on there like Ninja Gaiden, MGR, God Hand, etc
>>738865249I likely don't like a single game you like, and from where I'm standing it looks like the industry is thriving. All the devs "I" like are making money, paying their bills, buying luxury items, etc. Sounds like whatever games (you) like suck ass, and the people who make them suck equally as much.
>>738875835>Have you tried Aztez?Never even heard of it, I'll check it out.
>>738875835>>738876843Okay read the Steam page and saw the videos, I am usually not into the upgrading city management strategy games, but this seems to have combined that with action gameplay. This is the first time I've seen something like this and am curious, check the sale history and this game goes on 90% sales and costs only 2 euros, that is crazy. I will pick this up for sure in the future and try it out.
