PVP PLAYERS ARE FURIOUS
>n Season 2, we will be experimenting with two modes, one at the beginning of the season and one towards the middle/latter half of the season. The experimental mode at the beginning of the season will focus more on PVE, but with a light touch of PVP. The second experimental mode will be a PVE-only mode that’s focused on crews being tasked with completing objectives together and making some progress across matches.

pvp sweats (the 6k players that play this game) often say PVE will be the downfall of Marathon, and they'll quit the game if they add a PVE only mode
>>
Just add a fucking single player story focused roguelike mode it's not hard
>>
>players dropping
>LETS ADD PVE
The final bandaid. Shutdown soon
>>
>>738880632
Cringe
>>
Will it be playable offline?

Marathon's art design seems amazing but i'm not buying (or even playing a f2p) a game that's got an always-online requirement where it becomes unplayable once the official servers go down

If the PVE mode is playable offline or they add a LAN mode, i'll buy it
>>
we did it pvebros we saved marathon
>>
>>738881191
11k active players is much more cringe
>>
In other words, the experimental Weenie Hut Jr playlists are far more popular than the actual game. PVE Marathon wouldn't last a month, who the fuck would want to fight these roblox men when there are already dozens of co-op shooters to choose from?
>>
now all we need is single player marathon mod and the cycle is complete
>>
>>738881652
roblox is very popular
>>
>>738881297
>Will it be playable offline?
Are you joking? This is bungle we're talking about. They've been repeatedly smacking their head full speed against the live service scam wall for twelve years- have entirely devoted themselves to it at the expense of everything else. If you said 'offline mode' in their campus, they'd probably look at you as though you said something foreign- or a slur.

Not touching it without full offline support.
>>
>>738880274
I kind of think a PVE would help, but I'm not sure Marathon has the basic general appeal to bring in the PVE players.
>>
>>738880632
The game should have had a full blown story campaign from the start. That is a core thing that Bungie is known for, it makes no sense that they would skip and ignore that. Especially since it makes even less sense to have the game be a Marathon sequel/reboot without it.
>>
desu ignoring the fact that all the pve enemies are just reskinned destiny enemies. The AI is quite good and they are very aggressive, Some of the best moments in the beta for me were with the robots. Marathon was always a pve game anyway

Fyi tarkov has pve and it's more than 2x as popular as PvP.
Turns out no one cares about fagstraction "skill" and no one likes you no life macro rats
>>
i'd have tried marathon without much hesitation if even 1 of my friends was interested but, somehow, that group of FotM enjoying normalfags completely skipped it. didn't even try the demo/beta
>>
>>738883105
Pve is popular in tarkov because niggita refuses to deal with cheaters since they are his biggest source of income

>>738880274
The game should have been cooperative PVE from the start. In fact that's what it felt like it originally was before someone, probably some stupid executive, thought it should be an extraction shooter instead. PVP should have been an optional mode
>>
>>738883143
it's the artstyle. It's both the best thing about it and the reason it's dying horrifically, it's anti-mainstream.
>>
>>738883329
so just like marathon then
>>
Wait… I thought this was an extremely difficult hardcore extraction shooter for hardcore players?
What happened?
>>
>>738883689
Turns out there is about only 8k people that exist in the whole gaming world
>>
>>738883689
Turns out school shooters aren't a profitable enough audience to support a game
>>
>>738883689
It's not difficult or hardcore. Only retards who have never played Tarkov would think so. It's piss easy and ultra casual. There are absolutely zero stakes.
>>
>>738880274
Why do PvP sweats always get so upset when something like this happens? Do they really just enjoy seal clubbing that much? Don't you want people that actually fight back and want to be there?
>>
Can't wait for the dark souls RED MAN BAD style posts about the sweats not being able to prey on incoming PVE babies and how they're killing the game or whatever.
>>
>>738884331
Its often two reasons. One, they're afraid if PVE gets catered to then PVP wont be in future updates. Two, they like being king of their little hill. If the game gets more popular there's a higher chance someone better than them will come along and knock them off their pedestal
>>
>>738883143
Sounds like your friends have better taste than you
>>
>>738883689
players are running out and they're scraping the remnants with modes that aren't going to require matchmaking
>>
>>738881297
>>738882682
Why do uncs care so much about this? It's a $30 game. If you get a lot of enjoyment out of it now, who cares if it's inaccessible in a decade? You'll probably have dementia then anyway.
>>
>>738883397
From what I understood and what some sources claim the origonal idea for the game was supposed to be closer to The Division where you play a campaign that was largley PvE but once you completed the Obj or killed the boss players had the option to either all leave together or betray each other and still each others loot.

>pve+minor pvp at the start of the season
Tsk...
>pve-only towards middle/latter half
Well, alright...
I've been playing GZW and PVE there is just fun, though AI is pretty stupid. They actually released a patch today that's meant to make them harder, but I didn't really notice the difference.
But I have to thank Marathon for introducing me to it, game's fun for me. Last innajungle FPS I played was probably Crysis and Far Cry 3(?), it's somewhat refreshing, feels like there's not that many of those nowadays.
>>
>>738884331
beacically that, they enjoy pwning noobs . If you move the noobs to pve then they have to fight sweats and they hate losing

You don't understand what 'always online' design is, you zoomer windbag?

It takes 5 seconds to copy-paste a crack over backed-up files to completely remove any DRM and enable permanent, full offline support without the need for internet access, as all the files are accessible on the user side.

Paying for always online games is the ultimate gaming faggotry. But for people like you, raised thinking it's OK to be left holding the bag again and again, it's prolly not controversial at all.

Like, as someone that neither has intense hate or nostalgiac love for Bungie, I can't help but be a little surprised with the insane love Destiny has and how so many people are saying "Destiny 1 was their last good game" or "They should've abadonned Marathon to keep working on Destiny 2/ make Destiny 3".

Because, I was here when Destiny launched and I DISTINCTLY remember that being a shitshow too. Yet now it's like it's been totally memoryholed.
Like, nobody remember that bitch ass Peter Dinkledge Guilty Spark rip-off?

If they managed to rewrite history once, who knows? Maybe they'll do it again.
>>
>>738883000
ngl if there was single player marathon mod that had decent bot AI i would play it.
>>
>>738880274
Why can't That other extraction game do that? The one with the robutts? I love the game, but it feels so fucking ass to max out a loadout to hunt the big robutts, only for some asshole with a cheap kit to down you.
I don't know how it is in marathon, maybe it's better balanced, but in that other game it's a real fucking problem that for PvE you need to bring highly specialized expensive gear, but to do PvP you can go in with a free kit and kill people.
Like, I don't mind losing to someone who has put in a similar amount of effort and therefore risk as me. But as it is right now, kitted out PvE players are essentially just fucking loot pinatas for PvP players.

Yeah Sony definitely busted the door open at Bungie and threatened top management with ritual execution.
The timing of this after the last Sony sales report is just too sweet
>>
>>738886414
>for PvE you need to bring highly specialized expensive gear
I believe that's how it is in Marathon as well, though I haven't played that much.
First of all, fighting bots at all is like a giant dinner bell. People can see whether the boss is on the map, there's an announcement when you start fighting it and people can hear shooting from rather decent distance.
High-value events have alarms and shit.
Basically you have to prepare for PvP if you want to do PvE. You pretty much can't use freekit, you most likely won't have enough ammo as well.
If anyone can correct what I said wrong, please go ahead. I mostly focused on doing quests until getting tired of it.

Was, if you're fucking old. Sony bought them for their live service shit, and Destiny's single player mission shit was universally cobbled together garbage.
>>
>>738887051
If Marathon does introduce a PvE mode and it reviews well I might buy it. I don't hate extraction shooters, I just hate mixed PvPvE, for pretty much the reason I and you stated. Pure PvP match? Great, Pure PvE match? Also great. Need to kill a big robot for a quest? Better hope you have the gear! Oh! Everyone on the map is now coming for your ass? Enjoy!

it's kind of dumb to experiment in a lowkey manner, IE no one will hear about this except their ENTIRE 10k hardcore playerbase, who don't want it. it's not exactly gonna grab the other 1m who brought it and left already.
but, i think this is all probably irrelevant anyway, since i imagine it's likely inevitable where they go next.
they either try to salvage some kind of D3 / D2.5 out of it with PvE and and least gain back some more players (IE potential MTX/DLC purchasers), or they EOS and get vore'd by Sony in 8 months.
>>
>>738885339
I still own and can play all the games I bought in the 90s on the n64, because I fucking bought it and it's mine

your problem is you dont know how bad d2 got
d1 is a 5dollar footlong subway sub. might not be the best sandwich but it was a footlong and 5 dollars.
meanwhile d2 is 20 bucks for a doordashed 6inch sub that the doordasher showed up an hour late dropped on the floor and stepped on.
you dont even get the complete thing you overpaid for.

This doesn't feel as massive as the Civ7 stuff where they're changing the core background of the game, but it's damn close to it.

PvPniggers are so whiney lol. They don't actually want to have fair fights, they just want to bully weaker geared/skilled players, i.e. the ones that would play PvE mode.

This shouldn't affect them but the bitching alone tells the whole tale.

Bungie you are CURSED

It doesn't seem like it will be possible to play the whole game PVE, the patch notes make it sound like it will be only some kind of side quest thing.

To do normal level ups for the story or contracts or whateverthefuck, that's still going to require you to spread your cheeks for sweats in PVPVE lobbies.
