It's so fucking irritating to see/hear the "BLIZZARD INVENTED RTS AND REVOLUTIONIZED GAMING" rhetoric when they just utterly blatantly aped Westwood's successful formula.Blizzard never used go be good, it was always a dogshit formula that made cash grabs. I've hated blizzard and its frothing retarded fans from the very beginning.
Stick to the bit TA schizo
>"BLIZZARD INVENTED RTS AND REVOLUTIONIZED GAMING"
Westwood started it, Blizzard improved it. That has been a thing in gaming for decades. One studio does something new, other studios refine the concept and make it more popular.
>>738880627Broodwar > any rts and its not close.

>>738880627100% of the times a claim that X invented Y is fanboy bullshit and, if questioned, is always followed by "w-well but it popularized it!"
>>738880627Westwood invented itBlizzard perfected it
>>738881727I find this an acceptable answer too, I didn't really know about its pro scene too much until a few years ago.
>>738881786Starcraft is gookclick slop.
>>738880627Nintendo actually invented and perfected it with Pikmin
>>738881727>viking, anglo, japanese rulers on the cover>you only get a campaign for one of them
>>738881825god i wanna lick a gook
>BLIZZARD PERF--
No one claims blizzard invented RTS. Everyone knows Dune II is the first RTS.
>>738884779>Everyone knows Dune II is the first RTS.*blocks your path*
>>738881727The age of Kangz and sheeit
>>738880627>Blizzard never used go be goodBlackthorne and Lost Vikings were great, and Warcraft 1 was better than Dune 2, you're just too new to remember.
>>738884952*shoves you out of the way*
>>738885932>d Warcraft 1 was better than Dune 2,not even close. Also warcraft 1 is aids to play you have to manually press a hotkey for every action also if i remember you also had to press a key to move the camera there wasnt edge panning
>>738886715>you also had to press a key to move the camera there wasnt edge panningAhead of its time.
How about the narrative of "EA killed Westwood" that is parroted nonstop when Westwood had done great with Red Alert and Tiberian Sun but then blew it all on an awful MMO and had to sell themselves?
>>738880627
>>738881512>Looks at you in total annihilation
>>738888031I feel like they must have lost someone important after Red Alert 2 and Tiberian Sun. The magic just never returned.
>>738889441Petroglyth games were such a fucking shitshow.
>>738889560I honestly really fucking liked their games and I remember all the reviews at the time were incredibly positive tooeither they lost someone, or someone who shouldn't have had power ended up getting itor both actually
No one has ever said Blizzard invented anything. Blizzard's thing was always taking something someone else did and then just doing it really really well.
>>738885932warcraft2 was absolutely amazing. It had a nascent 'pro scene' 3 years before SC came out.And that's what War2 did better than Dune btw.If you were around back in the days of Kali, and then later Zone, you'd understand.
>>738880627Early RTS were basically just dressed up city builders, no?
>>738880627/v/ is full of blizzard marketers, you are talking to a brick wall
>>738889792>warcraft2 was absolutely amazingIts extremly mid>t had a nascent 'pro scene' 3 years before SC came ouDoubt humans are significanly weaker and every multiplayer match ends up being bloodlusted ogres vs bloodlusted ogres
>>738880627Biggest thing blizzard did was battlenet and map maker.
>>738890149>midit was released in 1995, you have no idea what you're talking about zoomzoom.>lusted ogresyes, but there was a huge amount of variance in build orders, strategies, teams (particularly 2v2) etc. again, you have no idea what you're talking about. Then you have maps like NWTR which were a totally different type of gameplay.humans were actually probably better at sea levels, particularly due to invis and polymorph. (but realistically most ladder matches were just on Garden of War)
blizzfags don't even like RTSsthey played warcraft 3 for the custom map minigames
>>738880627Could have posted dune 2 since wc1 is a straight copy of that
must be nice living in the 00s
>>738890328>you have no idea what you're talking about zoomzoom.if you actually want people to read what you type and consider what you think, please don't engage in sophist logical fallacies
>>738880627I've never heard anyone claim Blizzard invented RTS. Westwood's Dune 2 was probably the first major instance of the genre, and then Warcraft 2 and more importantly Command and Conquer are what cemented it as a mainstream genre that would go on to get aped by any number of studios.
>>738890328>it was released in 1995, you have no idea what you're talking about zoomzoom.Bruh i played it in the 90s i still think its mid the bar for quality in rts is really low but comparing to CnC Starcraft and the like its very mid>yes, but there was a huge amount of variance in build orders, strategiesLike what
>>738890956>do you rush with grunts?>if so, should you spend lumber on upgrades, slowing your upgrade to keep/castle>or should you wall in and go straight for ogres?>1 hall or 2 hall?>maybe you should try cheesing them by putting a barracks between their mine and town hall. or perhaps a walled in cannon tower on their gold line.blah blah. you didn't play at a high level anon =P
>>738891106>Grunts or ogreswhat a deep complex tactical gameplaymy knowledge of the multiplayer comes from youtube videos in every single one devolves ogres vs ogres.
>>738891214or deathknigts spamming the aoe thingy
>>738891214rush vs power (as it was called at the time)by going with grunts, you're spending lumber, making more farms, etc.. that slows your progression to bloodlust (which yes, is the obvious goal)i get if you just cunted around on the campaign or played single player, it doesn't matter.
>>738891342>ok hear this>you go grunts>or OGRES>thats the whole gamebased god tier strategy gaming
>>738880627>BLIZZARD INVENTED RTSNobody is saying that.
>>738880627>BLIZZARD INVENTED RTS AND REVOLUTIONIZED GAMINGI have never seen anyone claim this
no one played the original warcraft, everyone started with warcraft 2same thing with dune and the original command and conquer, nobody bothered with those and everyone went straight to the first red alertby the time rts games matured everyone played starcraft and total annihilation until warcraft 3 and red alert 2 showed up
>>738891918>same thing with dune and the original command and conquer, nobody bothered with those and everyone went straight to the first red alertnot true
Starcraft is not an RTS. It's a MOBA.
>>738880627Everyone knows that Warcraft 2 invented rts
>>738880627>"BLIZZARD INVENTED RTS AND REVOLUTIONIZED GAMING"Nobody in any reality has ever said that.
>>738891918You are right about Warcraft 1, but wrong about the rest. Dune 2 got played a lot by virtue of also being on console. C&C was massive as it hit at the right time when CD Drives were becoming commonplace and was a hugely marketed major release. Red Alert did so well specifically because C&C was so widely played and people wanted more.
>>738880627>WestwoodHuh, never heard of them. What have they made recently?
>>738892589even being retarded isn't actually a valid excuse for not having played the best games to ever be made
>>738880627So who invented the RTS genre? Generals that played by wargames in 1800? Managing an army from above was done long before videogames even existed.
>>738893060google nigger google
>>738894350ok i googled "nigger google" but that didnt really help
>>738880627Supposedly Warcraft was made because Blizzard lost the license to Warhammer iirc. So what they decided to do was change enough of the game in order to make their own IP out of the assets they already created for a Warhammer game.I've never gotten into their games since I was a console player but they at least at one point seemed like a fun company at least until they became big. Such is the story for many other companies. It seems to me WoW was when they started to go downhill even though most WoW fans will claim its x or y expansion that did Blizzard in instead.
>>738894801very organic and totally legit post
>>738884952isn't that a RTT?
>>738894801that was always an urban legend. when they were making warcraft 1 the president of blizzard wanted to try to get the warhammer license, but the other devs were all against it because they had a negative experience dealing with some capeshit license for a previous game.
>UMM ACTUALLY BW IS THE GREATEST RTS>No I don't play it, I only watch the 10 gooks compete in their local tounaments
>>738898719I have more hours in Brood War than any other game.
>>738898846MMR?
I disliked Starcraft in 1998 and still think it sucks. Huge step backward in UI.
>>738890350same with sc2 no one actually played ladderjust arcade stuff like desert strike and those tug of war games
>>738899251>Huge step backward in UI.people who complain about this must not have played many contemporary rts games. even in the 2000s they were making games that didn't differentiate between move and attack move or had totally fucked up hotkey options.
>>738900249No, I complained about it because I played contemporary RTS games that did it better.
>>738900249who is "they"
>>738901401tons of developers. for example the shift queue in age of empires 2 was broken in the original version and wasn't fixed until the hd rerelease, and it didn't have an attack move hotkey until the de rerelease. battle realms only had attack move and no regular move, so if you tried to pull a unit out you had to spam click away because the ai would keep trying to send it back in. while not actually a rts, total war is a total disaster to this day, with its "rts camera" setting defaulting to wasd to control the camera.
>>738881825I dunno why non-rts players keep calling starcraft gookclick, when it plays like ever RTS and everyone good at startcraft uses keyboard hotkeys.
>>738901667That wasn't broken, it was intentional, and you used patrol instead.
>>738901930Why are racists being racist? It’s because they’re racist, anon.
>>738902450>That wasn't broken, it was intentional,it was intentional to show waypoint flags but not have them do anything?
>>738891457>i'm too fucking dumb to understand strategy or tactics.
>>738903170I haven't played AoE2 in like 20 years but I'm pretty sure you were supposed to cap them out with a normal click.
>>738901930It's just shorthand for the skill requirement
>>738901930Starcraft does not play like every RTS.
>>738885932>Warcraft 1 was better than Dune 2holy fucking wrongWarcraft 2 was pretty great though
>>738904207It quite literally does.>build workers to gather resources>build production buildings to build little dudes>order your little dudes around to fight the enemy
>>738905716I can name multiple RTS that don't play like that. Nevermind that if you're being a reductive retard you can boil it down to pressing buttons which makes all games the same.
>>738905958not himyou are a fucking retard he is right. Sc is extremly standard
>>738880627Dude I used to have that dune game. My dad got the disc from some lady at his work whose kids didn't like the game
>>738904207The only thing Starcraft did different to other RTSs at the time was the manner in which Zerg hatched their units. That is pretty much it. I don't even think the idea of creep was unique to Starcraft. In all other respects though it was a regular RTS.
>>738896921Yeah, but >/v/ rule 3: you can only talk about games if you don't play them
>>738880627Its true though. RTS entered a golden era after warcraft 3
>>738906462>Its true though. RTS entered a golden era after warcraft 3retard
Step aside, peasants>automated economy>no upgrades>no unit abilities (except ACU)>no micro>just glorious carnage and tidal waves of units on the screenThe ultimate macro RTS
>>738906772>no SOUL
>>738906772Recently played through the campaigns of the original SupCom and FA.Can't say they feel good to play these days. No reason to play this over BAR.

>>738906001Asymmetrical factions to the degree SC had was not standard at all in 1998. The way it approached execution also wasn't standard.
>>738906996BAR is even more soulless
>>738907078>Asymmetrical factions to the degree SC had was not standard at all in 1998.It still plays like an standard RTS compare it to otehr games like warlords battlecry/kohan/populous/dungeon keeper/knights and merchant dark colony original war and so on
>>738907078Red Alert 1 came out over a year before it so your point on asymmetry is not m00t but factually wrong. As you've not explained how it's execution is different to anything that came before, I'll assume you also don't know what you mean here as well.
>>738906772>no microNow that's a lie if I've ever seen one.
>>738882237No, you don't. Unless you're talking about the Edward Longshanks campaign from the expansion that came out 20 years after the original game but by that point they've changed the cover.
>>738881727aoe is so fucking boring. BW has 3 unique races and it's 10x better. t. Not a korean
>>738909389They both put me to sleep.

>>738890912>picImagine doing all that for FREE.
>>738892019>total autist has difficulties with abstract thinking
>>738880627Nobody's saying that and command & conquer games are one very specific genre of RTS out of many. You sound like a zoomer who wasn't even alive when these games came out.
