Anyone else feel like they're getting too stupid for metroidvania maps?I've been playing Prince of Persia Lost Crown for a couple of hours and it's fun, but I open the map and I can't for the life of me remember what any of the rooms looked like. The rooms in game are detailed but on the map it's just an empty space, it just doesn't work for me. Am I retarded? I had similar issues with Hollow Knight.I played Super Metroid years ago and it was fine. Maybe the squares make it easy.
>>738883312>Am I retarded?Yes, because Prince of Persia had the best mapping system in all metroidvanias.
I think you're just getting old. A lot of rooms have a background detail to remind you of where key landmarks are.
>>738883312You're getting older. It's fine. There are a lot of guys that delude themselves and pretend they're still sharp.
>>738883312>I had similar issues with Hollow Knight.hollow knight's map's flow is awful and all the locations look exactly the same in an area, so that one is forgivablei can imagine almost the entirety of super metroid if i think about it, though
>>738883312>I can't for the life of me remember what any of the rooms looked likeWhy the fuck would you need to remember that in a metroidvania? The maps show you cutoff points that you haven't gone/couldn't go to. Just remember why you didn't go there, if there was an obstacle there, and if so then what did the obstacle require you to do. I mean I do wish metroidvania maps gave you the ability to write notes on them, but it is what it is. The vast majority of the map is completely fucking irrelevant.
>>738883312Use the in game screenshot functionality in lost crown. Cool feature.
Lots of games have areas that look the same but Super Metroid has unique colors, themes, enemies and music for each area so it's easy to tell them apart. If the games are hard to remember you are playing very low effort cut and paste games.
