They learned a lot when it comes to using verticality, stretching out the map a bit instead of making it a big circle so you're even more incentivized to build multiple bases throughout your playthrough, upgrades are more spaced apart than before and you'll need to explore further out to get them but it's a genuine improvement to the experience instead of padding, the bio upgrades are unique and the buffs they provide are powerful, the starting biome is full of both passive and hostile creatures (3+ different species of hostile fish), and the game does a good job of sprinkling in fun things to explore that you cant access yet (need a tool you don't have yet) to keep you returning to biomes you may have already "cleared" for some extra exploration. My complaints would be that I think the enemies need to be a hair more dangerous. I understand the starting area is supposed to be safe, but I shouldn't be able to get chomped by a moderately sized sea snake and take like 8 damage. I would also argue that the game could be further optimized, but I highly doubt that's gonna happen. I played on Linux, so maybe it's a driver issue, but a 3070 should not struggle to get 60fps at med/high settings with DLAA. Moving forward, games need to focus on optimization a lot thanks to the AI bubble squeezing the hardware market
