How can you be sure? Would explain a lot, good play by devs to get hype and reach some milestones.

>>738887562
Just finished it for the first time, quit around the time I started building a rocket first time I played. Cyclops sucks. Prawn and Seamoth are way faster and Seamoth is more agile. Prawn has the grappling hook for mobility and you can get the thermal charger for longevity, or solar for Seamoth. Honestly just give me a tidepod where the wings/fins turn into a drill and rocket arm/grappling hook, a portable fabricator (the freaking escape pods have one!) and I'm sorted. You can get miles around with just some snacks and water.

>How can you be sure? Would explain a lot, good play by devs to get hype and reach some milestones.
He's retarded and doesn't know how steam accounts for the numbers. It doesn't magically turn your shit into a legit appid nor does it allow you to leave reviews. In other words, he's a tech illiterate nigger and you almost fell for it. Also, it's #1 in practically every country's top sellers chart right now.

>This is almost Silksong tier of success but there was no buzz about it at all
Silksong released like 2 weeks after it was confirmed it even existed, meanwhile Pedomata was hyped for 6 years and didn't even beat Marathon nor Highguard
>>

I decided to read into it and it can apparently happen in some specific cases for no-steam cracked releases. No actual idea how Steam does collect its stats so could be complete bullshit.

Subnautica 1 built up popularity overtime and peoppe are eager for a new one that isn't talky niggas.
>>
I think this place seriously underestimates PC autism games, especially survival crafting games. These games are the junk food of pc gaming. Look at that new pirate game from last month. It got over 100k+ players despite nobody here making any threads. Most of the games /v/ talks about are very much niche and contrary to what many pc gamers actually play.

>People have been longing to recapture that same underwater exploration feeling they got in Sub 1 for over a decade now
>Subnautica 2 comes along promising the same atmosphere as Subnautica 1 but with new environments, creatures, updated QoL features, updated visuals, etc.
>Massive success
>>
>>738890292
It's not about efficiency, it's about the feeling, i'm not a speedrunner and carrying literally everything in the Cyclops and going down all the way into the thermal zone with a mobile base was great, my singular complain about it was the fact that you couldn't put the nuclear reactor in it, i expect a submarine with a nuclear reactor this time.

Subnautica is one of the most popular open world survival games. Also the price point is just right. I look at games like Saros and wonder how well it would've performed had it been half the price.

it comes from the wallet of the game developers. they clearly paid a few streamers to stream it and spread the word

Haven't played, I admit, but what I've heard was that there aren't actually any new environments and it all looks the same. 15 years just to end up at square one.
>creatures
Yeah there are some more
>updated QoL features
Basically just rolled mods from Sub 1 and called it Sub 2. Legitimately can't fathom (hue) how deep the corruption goes when you've got 2 companies outjewing each other and releasing a game in dev hell for 20 years just to end up releasing a slightly polished turd resembling the first game 25 years down the line.
>>
I played for about 8 hours and haven't really done anything but fuck around and build bases. Just barely touched the geothermal vent area.
The game feels like it lacks a lot of the horror elements that made the first one great... or maybe I just haven't explored the scary areas yet (or they haven't been added, lol)

I'm kind of absolutely livid. I don't want to touch an incomplete game and get left with zero closure, let alone the requirement to effectively redo the game in two years. Fuck this, I'll just buy it when it releases. Everyone is just throwing money at an incomplete game? SMFH

Subnautica (1, not Below Zero) has aged to the point where it's hit mythical status in gaming. It's a game anyone can enjoy as long as they're fine with getting spooked. Subnautica released 8 years ago and finally got a sequel.

I'm just surprised it got 450k concurrent. I was expecting something in the realm of 80k - 120k.

yeah the protagonist from the first one did retire for a bit but according to the pda he decided to explore more planets
>>
>>738895919
They're planning on adding proximity chat, by the way. I'm not sure if it's in the game yet, but the devs said they want to add it. That way when your friends get ganked by a leviathan, you can hear their screams fade out as they're dragged to their doom.

I still think this kind of atmospheric horror game is best played solo for maximum spookiness, though.

IIRC, he sold the rights to his adventures to pay off his debts to Alterra and then decided to go roughing it somewhere wild, building another homestead because he got a true taste of freedom. Behavioral scientists were baffled by why someone would want to leave civilization to kick it with nature.

There's a huge amount of players these days that just end up watching a streamer play a game, think it's really cool but don't buy it because they've already seen it all, then hop on the bandwagon with the sequel. There's basically a massive invisible playerbase just waiting for the next game, not to mention survival crafting has only skyrocketed in popularity since the first came out.

Its initial sales were good, but not great. Over time, though, Subnautica has managed to build up a huge cult following because it's an evergreen game. Everything about it just works. The lore, the world design, the isolation, the hands-off story, the environments, the fish... it all adds up to being a timeless classic.

Not to mention its immense appeal among streamers/YouTubers/VTubers. Even in Japan the game has a huge following because the Japanese love watching anime girls lose their shit over the Leviathans. Then you've got a whole genre of videos which are basically "marine biologist REACTS to the INSANE Subnautica wildlife!!" and those do huge numbers for some reason.

>swimming is slow even with upgraded fins because going to fast would mean youd see all the popin and the game would run like shit
>the new seaglide is slow and has sluggish acceleration going to fast would mean youd see all the popin and the game would run like shit
>for some reason it has no popup map like it did in the first game
>fog 50 feet infront of you obscuring literally everything, preventing the player from learning routes and instead just spams the player with beacons
>giant tree is the only landmark in the game and its in the skybox so it doesnt parallax meaning its useless for real navigation
>compass by default because the navigation and map layout is terrible, subnautica 1 the compass was a nice to have but never required
>scanner room turned into a placeable (good change) with resource icons now baseline (bad)
>but you can only select a SINGLE resource node at a time forcing you to go back and forth
>the node icons disappear when you get close to them
>the node icons are not location accurate
getting the scanner hud upgrade felt like genuine progression because you no longer had to remember where the nodes were or drive cameras around everywhere
>dynamic room size means that placeables will require a minimum size to be able to be placed down
>vehicle fabricator and tadpole recharger can only be placed on the long edge of the moonpool (the game does not tell you this)
the only change i cant find a downside or something that the first game did better with is the power system no longer being a max number ticking down but now a balance of supply and demand
but even then it just becomes a matter of spamming solar panels so that your base stays powered 24/7

that's the whole point, anon has been using "Search Term" which means exactly the string "Baldur's Gate 3" whereas trends lets you select "Video Game" which means anyone trying to look up the game either spelling it wrong or using an acronym or whatever.
it also means it doesn't count astronomers looking up starfields.
anon has been posting this chart for years using the wrong settings, go check yourself.

Did the devs ever solve that issue with pop-in from the first game, where if you travel too quickly, you could end up having islands/geometry form around you and you could get stuck inside after they popped in? I recall quite a few vehicles moved fast enough to trigger this on console releases.
>>
>>738908914
yeah, as far as I can tell its basically a big misshapen oblong. Seeing as the tree is central to the game im guessing the main map will stretch between the tree and the lifepod/starting area

There's almost no pop-in with the fastest vehicle, although occasionally if you enter an area you'll see creatures spawn in

The only times I cracked open the wiki was to find the recipe for Benzene since I apparently never grabbed a blood oil pod the final set of fetch quests for the eggs because I didn't think to scan every piece of otherwise useless plant life and I wasn't going to do a loop of the whole damn world just to find out where an eye stalk is. The game is pretty playable without the wiki, it gives you a progressively deeper set of map quest markers with the various radio distress beacons and dagasi seabases to keep you moving forward

Why didn't they do something new for this game like having you crash in the depths, have sonar early on after initial exploration to get vehicle, then have you rise to the top slowly as the monsters get bigger and bigger? It would make sense considering the sun only reaches a 100m and the food supply starts with plankton/plants. Otherwise it's basically a lamer Subnautica 1 where you just do the same but now there's anti soul gas and you're a clone so it's not even that scary lore wise.

I beat it yesterday. There's like 3 biomes were you're told to grab a black box over and over, then the 3rd biome leads into somethings that's finally not a blackbox fetch quest where you fix this observatory, then it ends telling you it's still in ea. Wasn't anywhere near as scary as the og. In the og leviathans roamed in areas you had to get to, here they only spawn in areas that are considered out of bounds. Like there's one next to the tadpole dock but it's in a giant empty space off the side with nothing you need in there, so it's just a spectacle really.

No, the scarcer the food supply, the bigger the predators actually. Also going up higher would be less scary as time goes on even if the monsters are bigger, the monsters are a very small part of the phobia. Good thing you're not in charge of making the game.
>>
>>738894163
Subnautica 1 was one of the earlier survival games and stood out considerably with the underwater setting since 90% of survival games are just "stranded on some tropical island now go hit trees with a stone-axe and build a basic shelter" where the only real survival mechanic is food.

Did they at least steal my idea for a difficulty monkey wrench where there are massive environmental shifts where safe zones can become literal hell? Like, you know that thing with games like Dying Light where the zombies become monsters at night? Imagine that, except most of the creatures and even flora are a Jekyll/Hyde situation.

It's already less scary as time goes on because you can outrun almost anything in a seamoth or defend yourself well enough with a prawn. Having glowing mushrooms cover the seafloor would probably make it a lot less scary too since the area would be well lit until you decide to venture out where it gets scarier because the loneliness and mystery intensifies. There's ways around it but no one is willing to try because of people with phobias. We can't even have spiders in games now. People like you are the reason why rogue like deckbuilder RPG/action hybrid incremental game #524 will sell like hot cakes.
>Predators get bigger as food supply diminishes
Lol poor bait. The only reason it made sense in Subnautica is because of bio-mechanical constructs. The scariest leviathan is right next to the Aurora near shallows where food is abundant. Spoopy lava monsters just throws you around and half the time is basically quick travel to your intended destination because it chucks you the right way. Otherwise you just zoom past it.

If you enjoyed S1 you'll probably also enjoy this. It's nowhere near as big as the full size of the 1.0 releases of the prior two games but it feels big enough to keep you occupied for 10+ hours so long as you don't look up guides and explore naturally. The player character is silent except for grunts and the like, though you do occasionally get some text dialogue choices to respond to the AI guide that gives you information.

What are you talking about? Subnautica was hyped by fans for years, and as is usual for a first entry, it missed the FOTM so it got a lot of "fans" who never even played it, never bothered to buy it, and just waited for the sequel. Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2, Resident Evil 2, etc, etc, etc. It's a tale as old as time.

They are not talking, and there is no sassy black wimin educating you, but the game has a huge problem of being boring.
Its like Subnautica 1's content being randomized, but the outcome is the same. At the end you still do the same shit, collecting titanium, copper, silver etc. The plotline is the same too with the infection shit, but hey now you have hal9000's metroxesual version with sassy undertones to "guide" you. It has the same exact problem any modern video game has now: there already exist a superior version of it. Its not bad, just like in the 1st, because the core stuff is still good. Its just mediocre.
This game should have been below zero.

That's kino. I did a playthrough where I said "fuck escaping, I live here now". I cured my disease and released the Sea Emperor babbies but didn't deactivate the quarantine gun and didn't build the rocket. Instead I built a series of luxurious, self-sufficient bases, stocked them with a whole fleet of vehicles, and the proceeded to hunt down and kill every non abyssal hostile leviathan in the game (since those respawn). My computer shit the bed and I lost the save before I could kill the last few, but I was satisfied with that ending, the MC became the sole resident of the planet, hunting leviathans for fun.

If they wanted to keep up with the woke they had this diverse lesbian girlboss protagonist who was talking about her therapy sessions for most of the game.

Why would they get rid of not just her, but pretend her game never happened if they weren't trying to memoryhole the woke stuff?

Yes. Building is pretty good, it's better than S1/BZ. I hope they add more curved wall options but so far it's still more flexible than S1/BZ. There are lots of little things they did to make it better: (optional) snapping to a grid, wall/tube extrusion, good system for making custom window shapes, nearby inventory is automatically used for crafting, and so far there doesn't seem to be base hull integrity (hated that).
>>738937698
The incentive is that Krafton (still the owner) sunk $750m into the team and they have to get their money back plus profit. I expect they'll eventually finish S2 and probably make another game or two with the same team.
>>
>>738937698
They'll generate another tidal wave of purchases with 1.0. That's at least 2 years of gradual purchases outside of initial EA. Subnautica 1 was a money printer even after full release.

BZ isn't very good. The map is tiny and claustrophobic and there are mandatory land areas, the story is really stupid, the characters are dumb, and there's a dindu fish that steals your gear and runs off with it. Graphics are a little better than S1 but barely.
