The remakeimaginingboot looks really good. Who else is really excited for this? Starfox 64 was a fantastic game on the N64, and Zero, for those of us Wii U owners, was a really fun time as well. These are the games that MAKE Nintendo. You cannot experience a Kirby Air Riders on an Xbox, you don't get a Pikmin on a Playstation, you get Starfox on Nintendo. I hope more of these budget titles are dropping soon. They just announced that more bangers are on the way, so get excited!
I'll get it if the multiplayer is fun.

It’s just a glorified arcade game that’s basically on-rails. It’s shallow and not even the best of its genre. Overhyping this game will only set you up for a big fat reality check when you see the credits roll after 45 minutes.
>>738891247>>738892345>>738892859>>738894915you now remember when star fox 2 released in 2017 and IGN gave it a 5 and it got middling reviews across the board, that's what happens when you take a game from the past with dated design philosophy and plop it into the present, it's evaluated with modern standards in mind, and the same might happen to this remake
>>738897026But this remake is brand new
>>738894971>It's bothWhat I'm saying is that under the hood, it's literally Star Fox 64. They haven't changed the level layouts, so you'll face the same enemies in the same spots. It's a 1:1 equivalence when it comes to the gameplay.
>>738897026adding multiplayer won't be enough I'm afraid

>>738894543The multiplayer in assault greatly disappointed me. It wasn't the GameCube answer to good shooters on other platforms.
>>738897026>dated design philosophyStar Fox 2 doesn't have outdated game design philosophy, in fact, it's quite modern. Instead of pure arcade gameplay, which modern players reject because they're faggots who don't like video games but prefer movies and storytelling, Star Fox 2 is based on a more open-ended approach, where the player has a strategic map and makes their own decisions. It's something you'd expect to see in modern indie games. The real problem with Star Fox 2 is that it's a 3D game made for the terrible Super NES, running at times at less than fucking 10 (TEN) frames per second, with input lag that can exceed a full second, and with graphics that get super messy in certain parts because the system didn't have the capacity to run a game like that.
>>738897451Yeah but if you overclock it to 200% in an emulator it runs fine.
>>738892345Zoomers will lose to Star Wolf on Venom and complain about unfair game design.>>738897026Starfox 2 was unreleased for a reason, anon. 64 is a great game because it had the whole package of addictive gameplay, multiple routes, great voice acting, and amazing music. You could argue that most games have those things now, but SF64 still holds up much better than some dinosaur game like SF2.

>>738900571Thinking too small. It's a combination of N64, Gamecube, and Wii eras right now.
>>738894672>It's not horribleit's pretty awful. it sounds extremely amateurish and stiff. and not at all in a campy way like 64. not as bad as assault (that's a low bar) but there's also gonna be a lot more of it than any other starfox game
>>738891164Is starfox a good game? It looks like you just wiggle the joystick around to move on the screen. Can you actually control where you fly?
Apparently Miyu and Fay’s surnames aren’t their respective animal species names. Funny to think that Miyu would be a Swiftie.
Just finished Star Fox 2 and I've enjoyed my time with it. The controls took a little time to get used to, but that was really the only flaw.I love the concept and execution of having to plan your fights accordingly as missiles and Andross's minions will head closer to Corneria even when you're fighting something else or trying to destroy an enemy base. It also nailed the cinematography and cool moments that impressed me and the fact that they were able to do all of that with very primitive 3D models. It's a shame that Nintendo cancelled it back then just to boost sales of the Star Fox 64 and N64 as well as erasing Miyu and Fay from the series because of that.
Hot take, but I still think that Star Fox 2 is better than 64. From a gameplay perspective, it has all the best elements of the other games combined into one Zelda Elements BEFORE STAR FOX ADVENTURES with the puzzles on each planet or battleship even down to pressing switches like you would do in a Zelda game, there’s also the Real Time Strategy element which predated Pikmin that nobody talks about sadly, every is always happening in real time so you gotta pick your battles wisely. I wish that this was the direction the franchise would take instead. The Star Wolf theme in this game "Surprise Attack" is an underrated banger. What’s funny is that Command did exactly what SF2 did but everyone hatedCommand, was it the controls or the endings? I’m genuinely curious. If the new reboot leads to a new game I'm curious how it will handle characters like Miyu, Fay and Krystal.
>>738901446I liked Assault but the voice acting was indeed horrible. It sounded like cartoon voice work with poor delivery, unlike SF64 where the actors actually took it seriously and gave the characters a sense of realism like a historical drama.>>738901893It’s mostly a hallway arcade shooter, but there are some levels that allow 360 degree movement and dogfighting.
>>738902745Command got rid of the dungeons so there's a lot less variety in the missions now. Command is also turn based and the timer is hella generous and it's really easy to earn back time so there's a lot less to worry about in the moment to moment gameplay. Unironically, Starlink feels closer to Star Fox 2-2 than Command does.
Krystal and Pulchra, the crossover I never knew I needed.
>>738891460The only bad thing about riders is it's too complex for its own good and they had to dumb it down
>>738902745People hated Command because of the shitty controls, character redesigns, and the way it shit all over the development the main cast got from SF64 through Assault.
>>738900571I wouldn't call tomodachi life early 3DS it came out over after 2 years after launch
>>738902279The Star Wolf cut in shot is mind-blowing for 1995.
>>738902745I mean I think Command's ok, but it's way less dynamic and varied than SF2. I like what it tried.
>>738891460Not even sonicfags pretend to give a shit about this game
>>738906603Plenty of Sonic fans love this game though, because it fits Sonic better than him driving a car (meaning most of them haven't even bothered to play Transformed or its predecessor), had style, and took skill to master. The only real issue is that because it had so many mechanics that they simplified it heavily with the sequel and while some people still like it, they generally prefer the first (I have a friend that likes ZG more bevause it's more chill, personally I think that they went too far with the simplicity and it gets boring becauss you can frontrun a bit too easily, vs the first where you can do that but it comes down to track knowledge and experience)

>>738907289That was my first guess, I have a friend who lives there that's excited for the game
Surely Nintendo must realize how frustrating it is to discover another remake with no new gameplay content? They made such an effort, would it ruin them if they added a few new stages for this opportunity? Some original cut content? It would actually delight the fans if they did that, and make it the remake more worthwhile. So I expect the OoT remake to be 1:1 as well, don't you? That may even be jarring to see with 64-era world design still intact.
>>738908373OoT remake being 1:1 would be disappointing IMO, it's still a good game but there are parts of it that have not aged as well in gameplay and basic things like Link's movement stiffness, rather they fully overhauled it.
>>738891460This game is better on GameCube though. The graphics are really fucked on Xbox and the game runs slightly worse because every Sonic game in this generation was designed around the GameCube first.Anyways Xbox had the best versions of every Burnout game so you should’ve just posted those. A lot of the fun in Kirby Air Ride revolved around totaling other vehicles so it’d be a better comparison anyway.

Look at how the gaming masses responded to 3D when it was new. They loved that shit, no matter how bad it looked because it was...3D! It's why devs keep chasing ever higher graphical fidelity, the masses dont give a shit as long as the thing is shiny enough.

Just started playing Assault for the first time since I was a kid and holy shit the amount of unabashed furry racism is sidesplitting. >>738902745You say all that shit like you actually know how 2 plays and then type>What’s funny is that Command did exactly what SF2 didCommand plays literally nothing alike besides also using a strategy map.>turn-based, with arbitrary turn limit>fog of war>don't get to pick characters, depends on whichever ones the game decides to give you as you stumble through dialogue choices to progress the route>none of the actual exploratory missions, it's all either 64-style all range mode shooting enemies in circles over a flat plain or else touchscreen spinning through rings>none of the "rogue-like" elements with stuff like randomized bosses that chase you down
I'm getting it because the OG is one of my favourite games of all time and while I think yet another version of 64 is unnecessary, I think the way its expanded on is novel. A more serious and "gritter" presentation and tone isn't what I would have expected so is interesting to see

>>738891164Looks extremely jeet-core.
Zero was so close to being a good game for me. Which makes it even more disappointing.>Gyrowing>Not much content due to having one route with a single stage split at sector beta (all the others are more like short challenges than full stages)>Tons of sections where you need to intentionally delay progressing and draw out the playtime, otherwise you just hurt your score in a score-based game.>A good amount of the bosses are a slog to get through, though some do have good ideas. The returning 64 boss before the end was particularly annoying to sit through on replays. The two screen gimmick, while not bad for me, made Zero feel like a shooting gallery game rather than a rail shooter due to the cursor being separate from you handling the arwing. But that's more personal taste than something I'd consider an actual flaw. It did make for some good moments. I always preferred games like like panzer dragoon and star fox to kid Icarus uprising or sin and punishment.
>>738898960how do you idiots still not know the difference between a remake and a remaster
>>738924034There really is no consensus for considering a game a remake/remaster/port.If I remember correctly, Q-Games didn't even use 64's source code during development. It was entirely remade. It looks different, sounds different and feels different to play. It's a faithful remake, but still a remake. It handles differently enough that I would still play 64 over 3D when given the choice.

Worse yet, they never fixed this with additional difficulty modes. They also didn't fix any of the problems of the original's combat system. Why add in an easy mode, and then not add in a hard mode?
I used to buy these hoping for a semblance of a good time and that my purchase would keep the franchise alive and in the limelight worthy enough to make new games out of. now I believe the only thing I funded was the lowering of standards for what a "new" product needs to be.they look like they're putting in effort into pic related, it LOOKS really good, hopefully it plays well too, but the graphical quality looks to be the only difference between OP and my pic. >These are the games that MAKE Nintendo.and see, that's part of the problem. You can say Dad of Boy ruined the tone or franchise for God of War but at least it's not resting on its laurels on what other people in the same-named company did well decades ago. They admit to as much because they give so much of a shit about people even emulating gameboy or NE>noo gaijin-san, we are not done making money off of Super Mario Brothers 2. Same for Mother 1, I don't care that the game literally never released for you westerners before. It's a "have your cake and eat it too" argument. So we're expected to consume the same media that gets fine tuned and updated (50% graphics, 50% "modern audience sensibilities" of script rewrites and Funky modes, you're lucky if a new color of coins are added to the game for you to collect but do Jack shit) because they weren't making good "new release" money on games like Starfox Zero, and instead of learning why those failed they went with the easy solution everyone else is. Kirby Air Riders is a sequel, it's not a remake, it has new content and new focus on the foundation of Air Ride. The fact all the old tracks are on it is a bonus, not the selling point.
>>738926707I don't really see that on there
>>738918868>>738924972I heard tTYD has some cool QoL improvements. If it weren't for the script controversy I'd believe it to be a straight upgrade, though I also want to see the two games side by side. >>738926296HGSS has the graphics and soundchip of DPPt, not my favorite. There was a genuine charm to colored and even precolor GB sprites like Pokemon, Links Awakening and Survivor Kids that was lost in the coming era that I think aesthetically is super comfrotable. the Safari Zone was a strange investment that is an improvement but you don't just reap rewards from immediately. The level scaling is still fucky and I didn't like the game corner change. Even if the berry growing system is better I think enough subjective grey and appreciation for the old makes is sufficient in refuting that HGGS is not objectively better or improved.
>>738927057*They admit to as much because they give so much of a shit about people even emulating gameboy or NES>noo gaijin-san, we are not done making money off of Super Mario Brothers 2. Same for Mother 1, I don't care that the game literally never released for you westerners before.
Something the remake won't capture is the vibration feedback. SF64 was the only game that actually made you feel explosions. Put your controller down after the train blows up at the end of Macbeth and your controller will vibrate off the table. Playing the game without the rumble pak felt weird. We don't really notice or care about controller feedback anymore but for SF64 is was a main feature.
>>738927896It'll have HD Rumble 2
>>738913404>he avoided sector ZYou didn't save the lylat system
>>738927057Why? Metroid Samus Returns lead to Dread and possibly more new games, the issue with Advance Wars rebootcamp was that it was developed by wayforwards, so I and many others simply refused to buy. Technologically it was incompetent, it used Unity, it's visuals were low quality from a technical standpoint and it was 30fps on the strategy map and combat scenes were supposed to be 60fps but that target was seldom met. Then there's the aesthetics, completely dead, on every level, the colour palette is now overpowering and the shading in the cutscenes is too cold compared to the warm visuals of the original game, the actual quality of the assets is laughably bad and then for no reason there are niggers in every army, even though it makes zero sense for the setting.I want to see Wars come back, especially a sequel to Days of Ruin but I don't want Wayforward anywhere near the series.
>>738928102>lowers your score count as bad as Katina>sometimes the missiles are bullshit and you can't see their HUD icon when they spawn in>all just to stop a missle attack at the Great Fox when you could ignore it entirely and take out the massive cargo supply line in Macbeth lmao
>>738927057They should have also remade dualstrike. It had a controversial campaign but it offered so many changes and improvements I can't go back to advance wars 2.
>>738891164I refuse to think this is JUST starfox 64 as the game would be too short for today standards. No, there must be something more.
>>738928609Anon, don't set yourself up for disappointment. The major addition they are offering is the furry vtuber stuff and the multiplayer.
The multi-player modes look fun amd since everyone has a stock ship with the same weapons and movement it should make for a good test of skill. I really enjoyed the dogfight mini game in Super Monkey Ball 2 so this has me interested. Plus I haven't played SF64 in a very long time.
>>738928609perhaps
>>738928225Look, all I'm hearing is>this didn't look good enough for me to buy>if this is how AW will look, I don't want it to improveand that's perfectly sufficient and justified, but that's also super similar to my reasoning on supporting the remake doesn't mean it automatically will become a quality new title. You got lucky with Metroid, and if you want to argue "they didn't care about AW to begin with unlike SF"... I mean you and I have seen what the love for Starfox has looked like the last decade. At least Pikmin sequels are still solid even after modifying each future installment for the modern audience. But Pikmin 4 finds ways to retread ground of 1/2 while being a sequel game. This isn't a sequel, it's a remake.
>>738928763I'm worried it will be very fun and well made but 2 months after launch it will have 4 people playing online when you need a lobby for 8.

You've beaten the SNES Star Fox on all paths, right? I just did, it was surprisingly fun. Path 3 was a good difficulty, took me a few tries. Haven't played 64 in years but SNES felt harder than what I remember of 64.

>>738931259Why is more cutscenes all of a sudden a good thing?
>>738931319The point of starfox 2026 is a clean slate kind of reboot. They are adding more cutscenes to flesh out the characters and all that. It isnt hard to understand. You need to realize that a bunch of lore was in a Japanese strategy guide, so they are shoving that into the game too. Also>since when were more cutscenes a good thing?Show me where the post said anything of the sort.
>>738930965I'd play that
>>738931525You are saying it in THIS post retard
>>738931319there is a lot of context 64 never gave the player that the dialog alone doesn't clear up. Necessary? No, but would be nicer than just the confusion.
>>738931626No. I'm pointing our the reasons FOR them being in the game, not if they are a good thing or not.
>>738931319Not them, but Star Fox has a ton of weirdly consistent lore that it never fucking explains but informs later story decisions. The prologue alone has cleared up "Why does Pigma keep showing up in every game" for a lot of people who just took him as the traitor and nothing more.
>>738931259>>738931525There is not a single human being on planet earth that gives a single fuck about the story/lore of fucking StarFox. Ok, maybe the furries, but they are subhuman.StarFox is all about the gameplay and the occasional>Do a barrel rollmemable phrases
>>738932308That's like saying people don't care about the story for Ace Combat.
>>738931319Because Nintendo fans are the new snoys. Look at how they praise realistic graphics as a good thing, and spit upon stylization.>THIS NEEDS MORE POLYGONS AND RAY TRACING, THOSE OLD GAMES ARE UGLY, EWWWW
>>738932434Go ahead and post where you got this totally-real quote from.
>>738932616How about every single modern fan praising the game solely because it looks prettier? And don't get me started on the imbeciles who legitimately want MORE cutscenes in games. I fucking hate sony so much for popularizing this cancer.
>>738932772but anon, its good when Nintendo does it

>>738933076>that doesn't happen, why lie? Then you agree that the remake is bad because adding graphics and cutscenes to a game objectively makes it worse. I'm glad we could come to this agreement. After all, you said nobody defends these things. ;)
>>738933074Yes. Because its the best introduction they have to the series. >just make a new game if they want to do that. They are. Its coming out in june.
>>738933256but that's not a clean slate, it's contingent on its preddesesor
>>738930652>I feel like that is the plan that makes sense, but they should've announced in that way if it's the case. Not how Nintendo operates anymore. They want to avoid situations like with TOTK or Metroid Prime 4 where they announced them too early and got fucked by unforeseen development extensions.Announcing a sequel could also jeopardise sales of the remake. Plenty would just say "I won't bother buying SF2026, I'll wait for the next game." Even if a sequel is already in development, it's better from their perspective to just announce the remake so fans buy it thinking it might be the only game they're getting.

>>738930652What I am hoping for is either a second Star Fox Direct in June or a segment in the usual big June Direct, where they pretty obviously hint to it.No way they will reveal the new game before this one even comes out, but something along the lines of:>We look forward to the seeing what adventures await for Star Fox in the futureOr>This game is the start of a new era of Star Fox and we look forward to sharing more information in the futureOr if they just want to outright say it>We hope you enjoy Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2, and we look forward to sharing more about what is next for Star Fox in the future.

>>738938632>Also people seem to be divided on all range mode some hate it some love itAll Range mode is good in moderation, and for dog fights.Zero using it for literally every single boss fight in the game was what was terrible - simultaneously dodging and getting shots in on a boss in the classic rail sections is always fun, having to fire a few shots then turn around to get some distance before turning back for another few shots is not so fun. Especially the ones where the enemy has a "fuck you" energy shield that pops out and makes you wait.
>>738891164I might end up buying a Switch 2 at the end of the year. Nintendo are finally building up a library and Pokemon Winds and Waves will probably release in early 2027 so it seems like it'll be worth a buy.

>>738929731It's gotten worse, I think because now they pull from the Funimation/anime dub/cartoon VA industry which has been taken over by a cult of egomaniacs who can't act and who will ruin the life of any voice actor that is better than them or that they don't like. They used to pull people out of amateur theater scenes, radio, wherever. Also they're terrified of being seen as "cheesy" or being mocked the way many 90s and 2000s game VAs have been. No one wants to be remembered as the guy who said "WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOOR!!!" but ironically the 90s mega man dub has better acting than what these people do nowadays.
