I enjoyed it but when you think about it, it was pretty unintuitive to be shown a bending 3D environment in 1994 and be expected to know it controls like points on a rigid grid. Some of my friends (we were literal kids at the time remember) didn't get it, they thought Sonic was supposed to be moving around freely in the level.

How come sometimes the Chaos Emerald is found in some bushes and sometimes the Chaos Emerald is found in these fuckass wacko dimensions that Sonic and friends just have to deal with?

They're some of the better special stages.
I streamed 500 level of it when mania was coming out.

You can't top the half-pipe levels. Sure these ones were "more fair" but if you had just treated all blind corners as the absolute hazards that they were instead of LETTING yourself get blindsided by what you couldn't see, Sonic 2's were perfectly fair too.

A while back I compiled a list of all the best Blue Sphere levels for showcasing all 128 segments. It's nice to just pick one and play it.
