I still use my reverb g2 at least once a week and this thing is a piece of shit. The upgrade will be nice.
>>738895725based reverb g2 appreciator
>>738895659That's what you're gonna do, retard. Most people who buy it will be owners who want to upgrade from their Shitta Quests who actually use their headsets.
>>738895659Only midwits had that issue. Sorry you had to find out this way.Imagine failing at having fun with a fun thing.
>>738895659I live off-grid and right now I have the Steam Deck for low-power gaming during the winter, this looks like a cooler replacement for that purpose.
>>738895659The thing that makes this a regular driver is PC platform + stereo 3D. There are several solutions to play classic games in stereo though it'll take a while for communities to trickle those mods out. But just emulators alone provide a lot of content.
>>738895659Isn't Frame supposed to be able to play flat screen games as well? Surely that could offset the lack of games to play with this thing.
>>738896161All headsets can do that, anon. It's just a Steam VR option. The problem is that the market is full of mongoloids like you, with zero clue of what VR can or cannot do, having never even used one, talking as if you were an expert on the topic.Motion sicknessNo gamesDiscomfortAnd all the other points against VR you have ever seen. Nothing but detached from reality, meme opinions from morons who don't know shit.
>>738896761>Motion sicknessis there any way to tell if you're sensitive to this before purchasing a headset?
>>738897123Everyone's sensitive to it to begin with.
>>738897220thisalso nobody can actually ride cars without puking they just take medicine beforehand to pretend they can handle it
>>738895659I will try VR gamedeving with mineI would ideally want to be part of a larger group working on a VR game, but dunno how to even socialize properly online to find a group in the first place.
>>738896761not that anon but even with the most doomer shitpost you can conjure, these aren't the same thing. I've never played a flat game on headsets for obvious reasons. With quest you would have to hassle to sideload android slop, on a wired headsets you are stuck at home where you have access to TVs and monitors that provide better clarity and contrast and you don't have to wear a brick on your face. It doesn't make sense until the headset is a PC / steam deck on your face and you use in the context you would use a handheld, subtracting some environments like riding the subway or sitting at a restaurant. Handhelds are basically a dead end in the future because 8-10" screens are going to stay 8-10" inches even if you bring back lenticular 3D. Whereas VR can become goggles or glasses sized and the displays will just get better and better. Also the frame is finally comfortable. You will still get sick, I won't.I've had VR for less than 2 years and I have 30+ games that are backlogged and I don't have time to play them. More games than I ever had on console. The legitimate criticism here is indie games are basically the whole market. But you're not going to run out of content unless you just hate the FPS genre or something.
>>738897123It doesn't matter. Even if you were the world's biggest pussy and got mega sick at the drop of a hat, you can play with a fan pointed at you, blowing air, and get rid of it. You'll get used to it in like two days of play.
>>738897123More accurately the term is simulator sickness, which is basically the opposite of motion sickness because you're seeing motion but your inner ear is still.I can't think of a way to test. Even cheap options like phone VR or google cardboard are going to be so compromised compared to a proper headset that it's not a fair test. A used quest 2? Or just buy with a 30 day return policy.
>>738897846whats weird is I've watched several youtube videos and read endless suggestions of how to deal with nausea. Fans are popular and people try things like ginger and valerian root, but nobody, and I mean fucking nobody, says go to the gas station and take a dramamine. If you have a headache you're gonna chug a bottle of some anti inflammatory but people don't know the over the counter nausea pill exists.
Here's your equitable cruelty free fair trade recycleable packaging
>>738897123its something you can overcome pretty quickly, just start with simple movement in games and take breaks if you start to feel sick. after a couple days of normal use you'll be fine
I played with my Q2 until it broke down, fixed it then I continued playing, if one controller hadn't died I would still be using it daily.
>2022 + 4>not OLED
>>738897123>>738899296I think the best thing to start with is a flight sim. VTOL is good. DO NOT FLY VTOL OR HELICOPTERS. Fly a normal a jet that takes off down a runway. Anyway when you are high in the sky and the terrain is at a distance the motion you perceive is gentle, and you can turn slowly to get used to pitch/yaw/roll. I got used to human movement in alyx quickly but some people can't.
>>738897123Literally everyone is, because it's a universal biological human trait.People just build resistance to it over time by forcing it, which is why VR will never take off. The expectation is for people to spend dozens of hours getting sick so they can play on a headset with no games.
>>738899817NOOO VTOL PENDULUM 4LYF
I use my Index at least once a week for VR sim racing
>>738895659i used my rift s to goon daily until i replaced it with a quest 3s
Will the eye-based rendering be a game changer?
can this thing be used standalone decently? would be cool to use vr apps that aren't games.
>>738895725perfect entry headset with how cheap it was when I got it. Got a PSVR2 a few years later, and now gonna get a Steam Frame as soon as it becomes available. Can't wait to play more Walkabout Mini Golf. The PSVR2 controller seriously gets in the way of proper hand form.
>>738900289it's a steam deck that sticks to your face, yes.
>>738895659If the controllers can be used for Wii emulation, I will cum
>>738899185god damn the steam frame looks so fucking sexy
>>738895725I really like my G2. I do not like its controllers. I am looking forward to side grading to the Frame. Having wireless play, no sweet spot, eye tracking, and native SteamVR support will be great.
>>738895659I use my headset literally every day.LITERALLY every day. While I'm on the treadmill and to fap in bed.
>>738900254for PCVR it removes compression artifacts and makes it display port quality, but as far as I know wireless latency isn't good enough for foveated rendering to headroom for better graphics/framerate. Standalone games can use foveated rendering. But you use precious processing power to do the eyetracking, john carmack didn't think the benefit was worth it for quest for that reason. On something stronger like a PS5 it obviously works.
>>738899985I love using it for AC but having to take it off between races is a pain in the ass
>>738895803pls recommend vr games
I'll use it weekly for VRChat meets on the weekend :3
>>738900254will hopefully standardize wireless VR at the very least

>>738895659I play VRChat everyday when I get home from work though
>>738895659The controllers will be nice for gyro gaming if they work on PC. But when it comes to VR you're supposed to install it on the couch TV for the visits lol.
>>738900997Why would I want to see the world around me? I want to be in a void. C'mon anon, don't be retarded.
>>738895659Walkabout Minigolf VR will get me for hours, plus Light Brigade, Into the Radius, Beat Saber, and boxing.>>738900254The rendering is a nice trick. I think eye-based navigation and control are the future, though.

>>738895659>discover vr porn>it now sits next to the bed prominently
>>738901032Personally, I'm excited for the Steam Controller integration. I think that VR is hampered by trying to be both a new way of experiencing games and also a new way of interacting with games. Put on the pants one leg at a time and make VR controller or M+KB compatible games instead of trying to jump in the deep end by doing both at the same time.
>>738902257I'm the other way around. To me VR sucks and the controllers are the only good thing that came out of it. It would be nice if they would standardize VR controllers for flat screens, but that ain't happening anytime soon unfortunately, considering the depth sensors are installed in the headset.
>>738902489Wii waggle
>>738902667Not really, wii remote had two points of reference and its spatial recognition was tied to a single direction on the forward/backward axis, that is why you had to be pointing at the "sensor" bar to avoid drift, VR controllers either use the cameras on the headset which allow the controllers full motion as long as they are within the fov of the headset cameras, lighthouses which gave you complete freedom inside the perimeter they formed or cameras on the controllers themselves that gave you full freedom around your body.
>>738902489There were things like the razer hydra and wiimote. Thing is without the location being 1:1 in a VR environment you have practically a 3 degrees of freedom controller instead of 6 degrees. It's just extremely gimmicky on a flat screen and only works well as a pointing device.
>>738895803>heh, you don't spend thousands of dollars on glorified tech demos? le midwit

Cant they make this oled? Please, lcd shouldnt exist unless it cost $400
Wonder how much it'll cost. It can't be more expensive than Index wouldn't it?
>>738904047Not with currently affordable technology. This uses over 2" displays and microoled is just over 1". So they could do 4 of those displays per eye and it would be 8000px and insane but cost more than the vision pro and nothing could drive it. Normal amoled or whatever that's in the PSVR2 isn't bright enough for pancake lenses and has mura.I guess they could've made something like BSB but I think here are downsides to the smaller lenses. Also you're forced to do a halo strap to make one size fit all and that adds weight over a soft strap. I'm more interested to know if bigscreen can make a BSB 3 that's standalone wireless with steam OS
>>738904174They just said less than index but that was before the economics got even worse. Realistically $700-950. Things looked bad when we found out the ergonomic kit with just straps would be sold as an add on. Now its leaked that there will be a version with no charger. That makes me think this thing is painfully expensive and they are desperate to get numbers off the sticker.
>>738895659It runs Linux, unlike existing competition, which is Androidslop. It is a full desktop replacement if you're fine with standard definition content, so I will be using it as such.>>738902257VR was hampered by everyone wanting it to be its own big investment thing and also wanting it to be exactly like shartphones, because of how much money those were making.>>738902489The controllers are definitely a good thing, since they actually continued development after the 2000s, instead of falling to the Xinput stasis that mainline console controllers fell for.>>738902667There was never a problem with the Wiimote, it was always just retarded devs making retarded control schemes and this impacted all games, not just Wii games or even just consoles with motion controls.
I dunno. I play with VR for a week or two, put it back in its case, stash that away for a month or two and get the itch for some VR again. I think it's pretty sweet.
>>738895659bro have you not had one of these before? you're gonna goon to VR porn semi-regularly for a long time
>>738904589>There was never a problem with the WiimoteThere were problems with it, mainly due to the restrictive inputs, for instance, one that used the game to its fullest was Skyward Sword, it would often not register the user intended motion properly, this could be avoided if the player was completely aware of the required position of the remote such as a vertical slice, to perform it the controller had to be pointing upwards and its bottomside parallel to the tv, as long as the swinging motion started from that position it registered properly, now that's where the main problem of the controller surfaced, spatial drifting, it used the sensor bar to triangulate its position, which often helped avoid drift, there was no way for the controller to perform this quick calibration if the IR camera wasn't "looking" at the sensor bar, so two things would occur, either the user would not hold the controller properly or the remote perceiced position had already drifted from its actual location. And that is just one of many problems it had.
>>738906184>perceiced*perceived
>>738906184>Skyward Sword>Used it properlyAbsolutely not. Skyward Sword's use of the Wiimote is a failure of motion controls, the Wiimote and basic game design. It includes safety margins just to account for how inconsistent and bad the game's control scheme is and it is heavily cut down in complexity just to focus on the Motion+ gimmick rather than integrating it into gameplay in a way that feels normal. It sacrifices everything for a poorly implemented gimmick, the underlying workings of which the player is barely informed about.Even just the idea that it will secretly recalibrate based on the sensor bar is fucked, because that implies that it will just periodically recalibrate itself using ANY two sources of IR light. As far as I was aware it just only cared about the accelerometer for sword swings and didn't reference the IR bar at all, since the pointer was always accurate compared to haphazard decision to use gyro for the cursors as well.I will defend the fact that I used candles for Skyward Sword, the game is ass, it can't keep calibration for shit
>>738895803>126 titles>Only 3 are not hot garbageLet me guess:-Superhot VR-Beat Saber-Half-Life AlyxAre included with those tech demos you call games?
>>738901482W-was he jerking off to you? Or did he just think it was arousing because you couldn't see him.
>>738907853I'm not defending SS, but the wii remote was inherently imprecise, it used the accelerometer and the gyroscope as inputs to perform a slash, if you grab the controller sideways, that is when a side of the controller is parallel to the tv it would not register properly, same thing happened with wii sports but it wasn't as apparent as the motions weren't as precise. Don't get me wrong, I love the Wii, it opened the possibility of motion gaming and most likely inspired the VR movement, the controller was controller was innovative and groundbreaking, there was really no way for Nintendo to do a better implementation, hell, it is still the most advanced nonvr motion controller scheme, the WiiU gamepad took a step forward by using the screen as a window but took two steps back by removing the IR camera and gyroscope from it, then the switch although brought the IR camera back Nintendo almost never used it and the switch 2 straight up removed it.
>>738908230I'm not arguing that it was on par with modern VR controllers or even its immediate successors, It was imprecise, but most of the issues with the Wiimote that lead to the perception of Wii waggle were a developer skill issue, and the only reason that people don't have an equally violent rejection towards generic console controllers that also had awful control schemes, is because normalfags were still on that bandwagon.
>Into the Radius 2>Stressing over how much ammo to bring>Always run out in BFE>Sprint back to base, ping-ponging off of force anomalies and watching mimic bullets zip past my head>Get home, shake out my pack of gray skinned garbage>Keeping this spoon, tho>Orginize my shelves>Scrub down my guns>Comfy >GOTO 2Man. I love VR. It's dumb and gimmicky and it's not PC2, but I'm having a delightful time.
>>738895659Speak for yourself, I've used my index atleast once a week since it came out. Can't wait for the frame to replace it.

>>738910163You are welcome, really loved taking a glance into the future.
>>738909772It really is. I have a friend who gets motion sick and stops playing after 30 minutes. The only reason he even gets motion sick is because he plays VR once every 6 months or some shit so he never gets used to it. I tell him to stop being such a pussy and just power through it for 10 minutes extra or more each time until it passes, but he's a stubborn retard and doubles down on that VR just makes him sick.
>>738895659They need to keep it delayed until they upgrade the display
>>738911064They are going to screw early adopters the way they did with the lcd launch deck.
I've never been motion sick inside or outside of VR. When I got Alyx I tried smooth movement and I got a little unbalanced for a second but after just walking around the little starter area for a couple minutes it passed.Falling any more than a couple feet in VR tends to give me a little vertigo but I think its kinda neat.
>>738895803I wish I could have fun with it :(
>>738895659Thats why I never bought one. There isnt a single game that looked like id play it for more than a little bit.Its basically a porn machine.
>poorfags always seething over a VR headset>had to come up with a reason why he didn't(actually can't) buy one.every time.
Strange that Valve isn't interested in making a new game or at least a tech demo for Frame. They made The Lab for HTC Vive, HLA and Aperture Hand Lab for Index, but they specifically said they're not making new stuff for this. https://www.roadtovr.com/valve-no-first-party-vr-game-in-development-half-life/
I would pay 2k for an AVP linux steam tier headset
Played Alyx recently for a couple hours and was massively disappointed. Is the whole game just fighting zombies and headcrabs in dark, abandoned tunnels? Constantly having to do waggle motions to get stuff and reload was tedious within minutes. The only games I've consistently enjoyed so far are the good escape room puzzles games and walkabout
>>738899789oled on vr means either fresnel lenses or losing 90-99% of the lightthey need to get insanely bright, which is expensive, is detrimental to response time, and burns your headset, looking at you bsbit just ain't ready for mass consumer marketI am a bit mad they didn't go for at least 2560 panels
>>738912615Not true today
>>738904560>Things looked bad when we found out the ergonomic kit with just straps would be sold as an add ona lot of people don't care about five finger sensing tbdesu>Now its leaked that there will be a version with no chargerthat's just EU compliance, 'eck gets the same treatment
>>738912390Because one game would just be a drop in the bucket and if VR has anything in abundance, then it is tech demos. The greater influx of games is going to come from enthusiast modding of flat games to work in VR, so getting something like UEVR into true "It just werks" territory like Proton would be more of a gamechanger than just another VR tech demo.
>>738897123It's more about how the game is made.If it requires you to use a joystick to move around, you'll probably get motion sickness.People play Eroge and VR porn games, which only requires a small space to move around, and you'll basically never get motion sickness if you physically walk around in your room.

>>738909880Theres a few VR cam girls on stripchat that are worth recording and dont have potato camerasIf you have a good video card you can convert 2d video to 3d with iw3/nunif, 3dcg works well too, even illustrated hentai with mixed results. You can make your own shit with AI too.Pro porn is rarely good, even softcore with females only, it's more disappointing than it should be. JAV is consistently the best but it's censored. If you like POV and don't get tired of seeing the same positions with different girls in different rooms it's paradise. Non POV can easily feel gay if you get a sense of presence.
>>738912723Knuckle straps need to be in the box because per dollar spent they improve the experience the most. You can naturally open and close your hand without dropping the controller. If they are in the box devs know you have these and can design their game properly without worrying about naive strapless friends. When I got my first VR headset I didn't realize what a big deal this was and got them thrown in as a bonus without intending to use them. Now I don't know how I was supposed to play most games without them. Even if the game has sticky objects in hand just being able to relax your hand is a huge comfort benefit.
>>738913709thickness drives the weight and moment of inertia for the headset way up. Also normal oled has mura.
>>738913104No he's right, the play for dream is a chinesium slave labor headset that's fully featured standalone and its $2000 because microoled. This is when everyone with above room temperature IQ should've realized valve wasn't going to use them.
>>738913462We have reprojection methods that double the framerate though. Actually a huge problem is quest's asynchronous space warp doesn't work with steamVR. Glad that bullshit will finally be over.
>>738915457>>738915912>You can play pancake games with anything, they just wanted a controller that didn't scare normalfags, so it has to have a useless d-pad and 4 face buttons in a diamond, just like every other ewaste controller for the past 36 years. No it serves an actual purpose. The one they gave is reducing the inertia of using the headset because you can freely go between both types of games. But the more important thing is a lot of good VR content is conversions of flat games that need all the buttons because they are mods that don't redesign the controls from the ground up. Some of them have confusing bindings because they don't have enough buttons to work with.
>>738918190Just dont bother with anything made before the steam frame honestly. Wait for quest 4 if you want something with an aggressive price.
will this be a comfier way to play regular games in bed instead of a 'eck?
>>738918498All I know is the meta AR is monocular and not super high resolution so it's not like you can just display your phone screen or something. It's like a smart watch on your face I suppose.
I'm just here for these and they better be sold separately.
I've noticed the most active /v/ VR discussion happens when I'm asleepI always thought VR would be less popular in europe because scarcity of air conditioning would make it a seasonal hobby. On scorching hot days when my house gets a few degrees higher than my target temperature I pass on VR.
>>738908925The answer is all the ammo. There are so many enemies in these maps now.
>>738923728ASW sucks though. You can notice the artifacts in VR and it is a horrible experience when you do.
>>738924163They'd only be sold separately for replacements. They're tracked by the headset, they're not going to do anything on their own.
>>738923930The Steam controller 2.0 is already the inertia reducing option, because it has VR capability and the full complement of features.I agree that having more face buttons is good, but the D-pad is pointless and just gets in the way more by forcing 4 of the buttons to be more or less mutually exclusive. The D-pad isn't even that great for 2D games anymore if you don't get a specific dedicated 2D pad, it's just 40 years of inertia.>>738924265Houses here aren't all built like Mcmansions that just instantly warm up in the sun.
>>738895659I wish they would've made a more expensive OLED option. I like everything about this except the prospect of more IPS glow. I would legit pay a few hundred more to get rid of that shit.I'll be pissed if they release an OLED version a year later.

>>738925519Frame has eye tracked reprojection btw, maybe it will be good
>>738912371>everyone who doesn't want vr is poorthis is what retards like (You) actually believe
>>738925959No by reduced inertia I mean you can go from 6dof VR game or menus to flat game with a unified controller and no swapping. Very important in a portable or commute context where you don't want to be packing multiple controllers. You won't be playing VR games with the steam controller for 99% of cases.I don't know what you mean about the dpad, there's not a huge difference between a dpad and 4 independent face buttons here. Many 3D games use a dpad for menu/aux/inventory shit.

By this point everyone (besides a handful of developers) knows that TAA is unbelievably shit in VR, but it feels like there should be some algorithm that combines temporal supersampling with eyetracking that doesn't cause the entire image to smear out into a blur.

I kinda want to talk about VR game I'm going to play tonight but I HATE SPOILERS. I only buy games that can convince me with its 3min trailer. I don't want to know anything of the upcoming experience. /v/ has spoiled me so many games that I can't play because of that even if the would be good one.
I have a Quest 2 and that's exactly what happened. It's just not comfortable to use for long periods, I don't get sick per se but I just don't like having a heavy monitor strapped to my face without being able to see anything around me for hours on end. The picture quality is also shit, 4k is just nowhere near enough resolution for a screen that's sat on top of your eyeballs. So the result is you spend hours of tweaking settings, installing mods, getting everything set up just right just to game for an hour and get tired of it. And I'm not going to pay however much the Steam one costs for a glorified sidegrade of the same crap experience just so I don't have to give a fake email address to Zuckerberg. They have the Bigscreen Beyond 2 now, and the Pimax Dream Air, and the MeganeX superlight 8k. This is what I need from a headset, small, lightweight, high resolution, and built-in tracking (the BB2 lacks this however). When this type of headset becomes standard, widely consumer tested, and readily available for retail, I will probably get one. I'm not spending another penny on VR until then.

Now I don't feel it at all, unless there's a big performance lurch.
I use my quest 3 pretty regularly. The big reason I use it is that I am not fucking overburdened with wires. If the frame doesn't have shitfucktons of wires, it will be fine. Secondary concerns are related to price. If they go above $500 it's probably fucked though. >>738947009Love holograms, wish they were more common
>>738947015The Quest 3 probably sold fine. The issue is that Zuck retardedly wasted billions investing in the Meta-Verse that predictably flopped. So on paper their VR division looks awful. Now that interest rates are rising and capital is harder to get they're cutting their losses. What a shame they had such a stupid strategy for VR.
>>738947196fixed holograms are a pain to produce unfortunately, but yeah whenever I see one I'm surprised at how good it ismost people haven't even seen one in person
>>738947217Yes, it DID, when it was value proposition #1, and everything else was like 1k+. the 3S without the pancake lenses was like $300 or something incredibly low, and is an overwhelming number of 3 units active today.Meta failed VR for a whole bunch of reasons but the fact they can't push units anymore due to price is one of the things they quoted in their investor report right before saying they were nuking meta horizon (only to walk it back as a mobile only thing a week later)
Fair warning to people thinking of getting the frame as a quest 3, and pimax crystal light owner. While valve is promising this groundbreaking wireless technology foveated rendering that is supposed to give you unparalleled visuals compared to compression, i guarantee you it still won't be comparable to display port headsets. There is no way you can transmit 32 gb of data per second or anywhere close with wireless tech to give you the same picture quality.I've tried every microscopic trick in the book to get the best visuals out of my quest both wired and wireless and it is NOWHERE near display port visuals. Its quite awful in almost every game and is a muddy mess.Just be forewarned and wait for the reviews to pile up first before you buy.

>>738947393that's mostly just because the bitrate on all current wireless headsets is spread over the full image, foveated streaming lets you get much more bitrate on what you actually look at
>>738947452Who are you quoting?
>>738895659Actually, the selling point is it doesn't have to be a VR game.So you get a 1440p monitor with 3D effects strapped to your face.Thats kinda neat

>>738947721each eye sees a flat image and that's why when you close one eye you can't see depth. Your eye focuses on depth because it can't focus on every depth. It's an eye limitation, not something required for depth.
>>738947809is the trauma in her ass
>>738947393The term you need is foveated streaming, foveated rendering is a different thingA compressed image can be difficult to identify even with A/B testing to an uncompressed image despite the massive difference in quantity of data. Same for music. Humans can't detect everything that can be measured, not even close. "32GB" is an irrelevant number. Also did try this on a quest pro with eyetracking? Valve has had eye tracked foveated streaming in steam VR for a long time, people have tried it at home already with eyetracked headsets. Everyone says its display port comparable at least at 2k resolutions. No shit tweaks for a quest 2 or 3 didn't do shit. The secret sauce is loading all the bandwidth into 10% of the screen region with eye tracking.
>>738947734You're just the guy who listens to flac and only uses wired mice. Dynamic foveated streaming is already "out" for consumption.

>>738947542The guy who was talking to whoever doesn't understand the appeal of holography.
>>738947643This is actually not true. If it were true your eye wouldn't need a lens to focus
>>738947921It's not required for depth yeah, which is why VR works at all. But it's only half of your depth perception, and your eyes are not really happy focusing on a different spot than the convergence point of both eyes. This makes VR into something needing adaptation from you which is a big problem for mass appeal.
>>738948028>The type of shit only vrlets think is neat. VR is too uncomfortable to play normal games in itYou think no one can tell you're fat from this comment don't you? You're very clearly fat, too fat for VRGood, you have to be fit and in shape to enjoy VR, get some Ozempic fatty

>>738947929I meant to say foveated streaming my gf was nagging me while I typed lol.And I respectfully disagree, I've had the quest 3 running at 960 mb over link, the most it is capable of encoding, been to nearly 40 vr worlds to do a side by side comparison with my light downgraded to quest 3 native res, and its a night and day difference.I realize the visuals dont bother everyone equally but for me, its the difference between looking through a screen, and actually being in the game.
>>738948051Then you did not understand the post.>companies dont bring the holography to the market becauseis nowhere to be found
>>738947921>it can't focus on every depth. How many depths does a flat image have? Also you need depth of focus for realistic images with proper indication of scale. No matter how good the oled displays get the grand canyon won't look as big and far away as it does in real life without simulating a light field in some way. Binocular depth is just "enough" to mostly trick us.
>>738948185quest 3 has no eye tracking, so it's compressing the whole image equally
>>738948126Are you too dumb to follow a conversation? We're talking about flat games modded to VR via UEVR, people play those sitting down because they barely have any motion control functionality. The headset on your face is still too uncomfortable for it to be worth it

>>738948123It's a limitation of your eye not being able to clearly see every depth at once. If your eye lens could focus every depth at once you wouldn't be arguing that it's required for depth.
>>738947995>You're just the guy who listens to flac and only uses wired mice.I do this

>>738948185I don't think you're understanding what you're disagreeing with. Yes we can't make the "quest native res" look like display port. The whole point of eye tracked foveated streaming is you pump almost all the bandwidth to 10% of the native res in the region you are looking at.The frame is 2160x2160 which is 4,665,600 pixels. If my retard math is right, 10% of that screen region is 683x683 which is only 466,560 pixels. If you render that with only 300mbs its going to look good because the size of the image is reduced by 90%.
>>738948469You can technically do that with any lens, since after a distance called the hyperfocal distance, everything up until infinity remains reasonably sharp. For the human eye it's about 6-7 meters, so that won't work for VR since a lot of stuff is closer to that, hence the need for light field / holographic displays

>>738948569>>738948761Superhot was good and I had an axe to grind with roomscale mini games but liked it anyway. >>738948959reviewers had very little time with it anyway, you'll have to wait for the full reviews when they announce the price and date (any moment now...)If foveated streaming isn't already available by default on steamVR, I'm certain it will be implemented by the various manufacturers and streaming apps
>>738948959I've heard quest pro and play for dream headset have it as an option in steam VR or virtual desktop. I haven't followed it closely. One opinion I heard for play for dream was that it wasn't display port quality because that's approaching 4000x4000 pixels. But it was still a massive improvement. For high res headsets it might take wifi 7 or wifi 8. They made frame wifi 7 capable for some reason. I wonder if theres some edge benefit somewhere.
>>738946972>open a viewJust cross your eyes, bro. That's what I did back when I was referencing >>738946387 here and that's what I'm doing now in this thread.
>>738949119So how is foveated streaming suppose to work? Is it just a piece of software that streams only the focal point of were your looking for your entire desktop, or does it have to be specifically implemented for certain games to work for them?My fear is it won't work for uevr games and pc mods.
>>738949064>Superhot was goodSee we don't disagree, the keyword being was
>>738948959>I may sell my crystal light for a frame.don't be stupid
>>738949280Yeah I can do that but just so you know the depth effect isn't as strong because a monitor or tv is only a few feet away. In VR you can make the screen an arbitrary distance and size and get a stronger depth effect. I'm not smart enough to explain why that is. For close up stuff to look deep you need a lot of convergence which 3d conversion isn't good at right now without AI inpainting the previously occluded areas.
>>738949336>game renders regular image >because quest headset has low bandwidth it usually makes images look like shit>foveated streaming focuses most of the data bandwidth towards the part the eye is looking at so it looks less shitit still looks like shit vs DP. It just looks a less shit vs what a Quest does
>>738948812not him but AC has the worst VR support i have ever seen. did they fix that crap yet?i just remember only being able to find certain functions on keyboard, or on the VR controller, while i just wanted to play with a standard ass controller, but it was making me juggle all three, then i quit after one race out of total frustration and didn't want to touch that ever again. it's one of the only things in my library i have a negative review on because i could not believe they called that shit VR support.
>>738949336Foveated streaming takes the rendered picture and compresses the focus area less than the rest which makes it independent of the render engine (compared to foveated rendering)
>>738949336foveated streaming works on everything because its done to the video image after everything is rendered. It's foveated rendering that has to be implemented by developers at the engine level. I've also heard that can't currently work over wireless because the latency is slightly slower than what we need. Maybe someone can fix that someday.
>>738949336conceptually since it's not RENDERING, they're able to software-slice portions of the lenses as different monitors and will have only 'monitor' (portion) 1/2/3 streaming the higher qual textures while the lower ones stream low or med quality. That's how I've understood it from the explanations we've gotten, and it's not too crazy of a concept, I guess, but definitely requires support unless valve has found some sort of fucky way to do it via OS.
I might buy a Dream Air SE for fuck about VR.
>>738949391I mean maybe your right idk.I have comfort mods installed on it... Its way more comfortable than my quest 3 now lol, along with a kiwi pulley system I dont even notice the wires there.. Maybe i should just hang on to it.Wireless with dp visuals is just a huge proposition value.
>>738949551I mean you only need 1 VR related button to be bound (Reset view). But Content Manager (The launcher you should be using for Assetto Corsa) has a pretty complete control binding manager. The game's backend is fairly archaic, thats a certain. But people put up with it because the driving feels good.
>>738949728>Wireless with dp visuals is just a huge proposition value. It's not going to look anywhere near as good as your Crystal. It'll look worse than a HP Reverb.

Here's some abyss to gaze into while the frame never comes out
>>738950127>How can I get better at dealing with the sickness? You gotta just be consistent. Play for a bit, as soon as you feel sickness coming you stop. Next day do the same thing. Then the next day again. After a week or two you will get stronger and only the most atrocious games will make you sick.

>>738950137Ok but why is the frame going to look worse than those panels, just theoretically with encoding?
>>738950281>How did you know I only bought it for simracing and flightsim?Eh I think they're the best usecase for VR.
>>738950127Test my theory that gentle flight siming is the best way and report back
>>738950498Should I use VTOLVR or should I try something else.
>>738950353>Ok but why is the frame going to look worse than those panels,A PCL is DP 2880x2880 (829440 pixels) per eye. The Steamframe is a streamed 2160x2160 (4665600) per eye. The PCL has double the resolution of the Steamframe. It's like 720p vs 1080p

>>738950598VTOL is great and the easiest VR flight sim to get into because low system requirements and you just use your VR controllers. Just fly normal jets. If you take off with VTOL or a helicopter you will fall out of your chair. I don't remember if there is one but look for some game mode where you start in the air because runway turning and takeoff is more intense than what you need.
>>738950638Oh I meant the reverb G2, which is what the frame gets compared to all the time
>>738950825I do have it but I haven't played it in forever. I could also get project wingman. Honestly I couldn't play boneworks, b&s or alyx without getting really sick..

>>738950807Actually the quest 2 is known for a flaw where moisture shorts the proximity sensor in charge of detecting when the headset is worn. It catches on fire and its easy to find pictures of units that are burned.
wiredfags are so annoying
Modded Skyrim vr with a good pc and headset is a religious experience. One has to partake atleast once in their life's.
>>738950910Yeah just go on sightseeing flights. You can drop altitude to increase the intensity of forward motion, then turn gently and speed up the turn until you can "feel" it then back off. Just keep the motion to the level where you brain either ignores it or you only feel briefly weird and you get over it. Keep exposing yourself daily until your brain doesn't give a shit.
Question for all you immersion playing vr fags, I find playing at night when everyone's asleep at my house much more immersive and easier to disassociate with reality. I find playing vr during the day hard, when my cortisol is high and im in work mode.Does anyone else feel this way?
>>738951078>Modded Skyrim vrAny good mod lists these days?

>>738953124i stopped playing VR for a long twice over my 10 years of playing it.Once during 2018-2020ish, only because there were NO GAEMS. >>738954008Regular guy can't even handle Subnautica in VR. VR is just so different experience than regular flat games. Today I played a good feel puzzle game and I started to feel heat and began to sweat when I spent a long time in an engine room in that game.

my old headset was a reverb G2, do NOT trust any fucker that says it has better image quality than anything with pancake lenses, I will never go back to turning my entire head to look at things instead of just moving my eyes
>>738954008Walking Dead Saints & Sinners is not a horror game but it is surprisingly good and fun as fuck, it even comes with a wave survival mode that has a good difficulty. If you go with a Quest you'll also be able to play RE4VR but this one is kinda easy even with the laser sight off, the mercenaries is still challenging
>>738919697yes. it's PSVR1+PS4(or PS4PRO) exclusive.and to make matters even worse, since KT terminated support for VR, and PS5 has a bug anyway, you'll need a PS4(or PS4Pro) with an outdated firmware(go watch ModdedWarfare for tutorials) to play it.To compensate for the cost and all the and effort you'll have to go through, you'll get to use hacked roms, and nude mods which you'll find on LoversLab.You should gather everything you'll need (tutorials, roms, nude mods, etc..) before even looking for a secondhand PS4.https://mega.nz/file/UQI0gTqQ#G1KmcWPrKFvRc56AOcpLnAP7e3OlYZJUGqlUNeu_B5I
So I just turned my q2 after quite a while, well 2 buttons still don't work but why the fuck do they keep changing the UI? It was never pretty or anything but now it seems so weird with all the popups and crap they added.
>>738960453Apple decided that AR interface should look like that and Meta followed
>>738895659I can't wait for it. I already sold my RP4 Pro for 200 bucks (paid 130) and my Miyoo Mini v3 for 130 (paid 50, redditors are retards) in anticipation for it. Have 1400 remaining gabe bucks after a shitload of games and 4 steam controllers (thanks gabe for reworking the skin market and turning my trash into riches). It is the ultimate portable computer. A low powered Arm linux PC that can emulate android, PC, etc and play VR on the side. Huge virtual desktop where I can watch some shows/youtube while I emulate retro games or play PC games while I chill on my lunch break at work. Smaller than jamming a steamdeck in my backpack and with better battery. Plus I get a giant ass 4K screen. I can't fucking wait for my free SteamFrame. God I fucking love that fat kike.
>>738950127The actual answer is to instantly take a break the moment you feel sick, go pee or whatever for like 5 minutes, and then you can hop right back in. As you do this repeatedly, your brain will adjust to it and eventually you'll be doing sick flips in the HL2 hovercraft without falling to the ground puking. Anyone who's suggesting that you just push through it is trolling you and is unironically how you brick your brain to never be able to get over the sickness like the one fucking retarded Valve dev who gimped Alyx and every studio listened to the advice of for years.
I've only ever owned the index, this thing is going to be like a straight upgrade right? Besides lack of lighthouse tracking
>>738961301people prop up alyx as the pinnacle of VR games even though it was designed to be as safe as possible

>>738965090I don't believe in privacy, like when I was a kid we didn't have a way to develop photos and took it to some store and well they had to look at them, then department stores asked for a lot of info just to buy some stuff and they kept sending catalogs to my house, yellow pages had everyone's address tied to a name and a number, at some point I had to create an email address to register to sites, then I found out all traffic goes through some servers which anyone can see, I guess I learned to live without hiding anything.

Give it to me straight, /v/, what's the best VR headset I can get if I want to jack off crazy style to VR porn?
>>738952297No. Games will be full of jobbers that you can kill. The starting M4 is trash and players might underestimate how much headshots matter. Just unlock a good gun like the mp5, aim for the head so you have ammo left after killing someone and you're fine.
>>738954943if G2 was a steamVR headset from day 1 with fixed controller tracking PCVR would be in a vastly better state.
>>738965704Fine I get you don't care about privacy. But doesn't having to fill out accounts annoy you?The best analogy I can make is like when you see a toaster and for some fucking reason it requires a bluetooth connection to start and you need a phone to change your toaster settings. Like yeah I can tell everyone "it's not such a big deal, you get used to it". But it doesn't HAVE to exist. Things USED to be better. It really pisses me off having to connect periodically and sign in, and then it still relies on other software like SteamVR so I have to make ANOTHER account with Steam. I wish people stopped normalizing it.And it's one thing not to care about companies taking private data, but I'm deathly afraid of connecting, say, a Meta account, and then suddenly all my friends can see me watching porn. I don't need that fear looming over my head.
>>738895659i sold mine to a friend for $600worked out gr8
>>738965924frame, the reasons are too autistic/ergonomic/user experience to explain. Expect quest to be a fucking hassle when you "crazy style". There are headsets with better displays like galaxy XR and vision pro but I don't know what to expect from them.
>>738966554Well yeah but that's entirely different, that's a smart toaster, one that you can control from anywhere in the world, of course it is bound to have an account and there are still analog toasters, it is entirely up to the buyer to pick whatever they want.I guess being afraid of accidentally sharing your porn preferences to your friends is a valid fear, but I don't have any friends so yeah
>>738895659Why wouldn't anyone want to play flatscreen games in VR in theater mode?
>>738966554I think "smart" appliances were supposed to somehow synergize with the whole idea of smart home. But then without a robot maid to put bread in it, a smart toaster is somewhat lame.
