Falco, seeing a devastated Corneria City says "this is horrible." In the remake he says "The evil Dr. Andross sure made a mess of Corneria City." That's what happens when you try to expand something without adding anything of substance that has a reason to deserve existing. Questions nobody was asking have to be answered, and things that needed no explanation have to be explained to pad out the runtime. Think Rings of Power where they had to spend 10 minutes debating what do do with a magical circle of metal without saying the word ring, so that when someone says "let's make three rings" it's supposed to sound very profound and climactic, but the audience is reaching for the remote to change shows if they haven't already.
