Turning the game into "the greatest tribute to video games" only brought toxic speeches where they belittled Nintendo characters to saturate it with third-party guests.

Smashfags when nintendo adds popular third party characters instead of the guy from nes golf

This but completely unironically. The more you broaden a theme the less interesting it gets. "The Guy From NES Golf" is a much more interesting concept than featuring every samey game protagonist with a special sword and generalist magic just because.

If its a celebration of gaming, why should guests be excluded?

This. I'd rather have fucking Stanley the bug guy or Bubbles from fucking Clu Clu Land because at least then they have to try and make an interesting moveset

Smash was originally a celebration of Nintendo's 110th anniversary. Inviting outsiders to the club is a mistake and only leads to more console warring and people arguing about what games deserve to be there leading to them including Minecraft Steve for all the zoomers which then ruined the game's balance. Oh it's a fighting game so it needs to have Terry Bogard even though nobody in North America has ever heard of Terry Bogard.
