What's the /v/erdict on Elden Ring 4 years later?
>>
It's bretty gud
>>
>>738908000
considering there have been at least 3 daily threads since it came out I'd say it left quite the impact
>>
I still don't get why it was so popular with normies
>>
It's no Skyrim

DS3 > Elden Ring
>>
4 years.... I said that I was too busy with work to play it when it released and I missed the party.... forgive me /v/, I'm a wagecuck
>>
>>738908349
Still lots of people playing but I usually just play offline because of mods.
>>
>>738908349
There’s a tarnished edition coming out later this year gonna do a new run then
>>
we all agree that the hate is overblown and elden ring is just really that good

Terra Magica my beloved you will be missed.

If you leave Limgrave with less than like 30 VIG you'll get shat on by random things, and on replays I find that more offensive than needing 50-60 VIG by Fire Giant. I need those early level-ups to meet weapon stat requirements.

It's the most ambitious vision in gaming realized and is basically perfect if you consider all metrics. It has the best of linear levels, open world exploration, the feeling of lovecraftian wonder that I only seem to get from games and novels, it has difficulty and mastery of complex systems, unbelievable art design, perfect controls, music... it just has everything. I don't think it will be topped for 20+ years.
>>
>>738908736
How is it ambitious? And by saying "basically perfect if you consider all metrics", do you mean it is a perfect game with no flaws whatsoever?

The next game as good as Elden Ring will probably be a from game, true
>>
>>738908000
It was kino. But the open world made it a slog to replay compared to the other games
>>
>>738908986
Not even her worst attack, her clone bullshit in phase two is much worse
>>
>>738910692
Only if she starts it up when you go for a punish and get caught by the updraft which basically means you’re fucked. She can go from the ending of waterfowl into that and it’s very cruel, her previous ultimate attack’s opening is actually just another death trap if you’re unlucky.
>>
>>738910796
>if she starts it up when you go for a punish
In my experience that basically never happens. She does, however, start the waterfowl when I'm right in her face VERY often. I still can't dodge it perfectly if I am in her face when she starts it, I need some distance, and I have 3k hours in this game.

Its the peak of Souls-like games with a sense of wonder and adventure as you explore the world. Genuine kino and GOTD alongside BG3 and E33.

I'm with you except for music. Fromsoftware has never had memorable music except for bloodborne. Gwyn's piano doesn't count, I brought DS1 at launch and thought nothing of generic piano theme.

There is perhaps good news that the long standing "main" fromsoft composer is gone now. She was least active for bloodborne which is how there was actually good music for once. However I don't even think she was ever bad, just forgettable and mid. I don't have a lot of faith in future fromsoft music either. Nightreign wasn't exactly a memorable or exciting datapoint. Having generic and forgettable music is not a deal breaker at all for me to enjoy fromsoft games. In fact, there is something to be said for muted impact of an element to not drown out the other elements. But fanboyism praising the music is just digusting. Same with retarded fanboyism over fromsoft's "lore".

its fun to play and obviously very well made. the whole "open world" shit and fast travel makes the game very casual though, its definitely the most ubisoft souls they ever released. i for one hate this development, but i guess seacoe games are the most appealing to the casual gamer, so they totally bought into it too. also its so much easier than the previous souls, ridiculous desu
>>
>>738908000
The open world is a bummer. Things in it are too repetitive and it holds your hand way too much.
>>
People who claim elden ring is easier than the previous games either rely on summons, use guides or simply never return to the older titles after finishing it.
>>
>>738908000
After 50 hours I was getting bored and wanted the game to end but kept on playing hoping things would improve. I can't remember a single boss or area I liked about the DLC, played for a total of 110 hours doing most of the optional dungeons, main game + DLC and I will never touch this piece of shit game again.
Limgrave, Liurnia and the underground areas were the only locations I enjoyed playing through the rest are quite frankly dogshit.
>>
>>738916101
i dont get this opinion. how is it not the easiest? you literally have fast travel and xxx options instead of having to do the same hallway over and over.
>>
>>738916619
Because once you’ve played ER, every encounter in the older titles turns into a complete joke. Environmental hazards alone don’t suddenly make the game harder. Why pretend that Souls players didn’t shit themselves when the game came out? Every single of them was struggling against margit and banished knights and crucible knights and underground archer

Greatest open world game ever, but at the same time Fromsoft didn't do a good job of translating the Souls formula into open world. Elden Ring has the same static enemies with dumb AI that worked well enough for the claustrophobic halls and corridors of Boletaria and Lordran, but are easily exploitable in the open fields of the Land's Between. The horse exacerbates the problem by making it easier than ever to just skip so much content. Sites of grace being abundant was also a problem. I am interested in a sequel where they iron out these problems because the open world design is incredible.

9.5/10

run away, jump, roll into her 2d wave, stay still, drink estus, attack

She does it again twice, what do now?
>>
>>738908736
The bosses suck ass and are all the same thougheverbeit
>>
>>738908000
I don't like how after Bloodborne, they decided that every souls boss should be hyper fast with insanely long combos and aoe.
>>
>>738918885
That's not really true though.
>>
>>738908986
As a greatsword chad who isn't autistic enough to practice to the point of being able to reliably dodge every single move of hers - the three times i've beaten her have all been RNG where she hasn't done waterfowl at all or only once or twice max.
As a slow strength build I feel being hyper aggressive to stunlock and poisebreak her is the only viable option and it works pretty well - until she waterfowls you after you've committed to an attack, then you're pretty much fucked unless you have full health.
>>
>>738917926
Biggest problem is definitely the loot - exploration starts to feel really pointless after Limgrave because 90% of dungeons just give you completely useless loot for your build.
>>
>>738920237
As a Claymore chad I can confirm this sentiment if she doesn’t have waterfowl you can endlessly bully the fuck out of her though so it’s a trade off for her having low poise.
>>
>>738908000
It was a great game but at the same time shows that they need to overhaul their stupid stagnant design decisions because this brough them to the breaking point
>2000 bosses but in the end it boils down into rolling and attacking in a wide open arena
>Enemy AI is retarded and it's very stupid how everyone just keeps to their pre-placed static behavior even in an open world. Most egregious example is the limgrave convoy which literally just keeps walking the same 1 km stretch over and over, when reaching their arbitrary goal they just stop
>NPC questlines are broken, they gave you a summon system the game could have worked with a traditional RPG party (using summoning instead of constant following)
>not a single real town sucks for an open world
Oh yeah and enemy scaling was terrible
>>
>>738918885
I have plenty of specific complaints about the direction of From's boss design, but more than anything I hate that you have to start every major boss with like a 15+ minute "learning phase" where your only goal is to stay alive long enough to figure out what the hell they're doing, because they attack so quickly and continuously and for so much damage that if you do anything other than focus 100% on damage avoidance without knowing their moves you're going to get shredded. So there's like 15+ minutes between getting to a boss and being able to actually give it a good shot.
(I'm mostly thinking of DLC bosses, but it's also true to an extent for some late base game bosses too.)
>>
>>738920785
This only applies to like 4 or 5 bosses though the rest just get shredded if you’ve ever played these games before. Basically if you’ve ever beaten Nameless King then you’ve beat like 80% of ER bosses, which is what the actual problem is. I don’t care if Dark Souls bosses are easy in retrospect, they still have better designs and are more memorable than bosses in 3 and ER.
>>
>>738908000
Easily a top 3 game of the past decade
>>
>>738908736
the open world is garbage but I agree it does most everything else well and that is its one big flaw
>>
>>738908000
It's pretty good but outlasts its welcome. That first playthrough was amazing but it's lost the magic.
Also, retards on /v/ are still mindbroken over the game doing well for some reason. I cannot even begin to comprehend the mental illness required to be this obsessed.

It was good but the outside of the sense of scale the open world wasn't interesting at all. Makes replaying it boring because most of your time is spent riding around on torrent.
>>
>>738908000

open world games are always shit for replays
doesnt help every From game is worse than the last
>>
>>738923069
Boss gimmicks that Fromsoft need to retire due to overuse:
>Swarms where one individual is the "real" boss
>Mages that can clone decoys of themselves
>Boss you're soft-forced to fight with a special weapon found in its arena
>Gruesome intentional self-mutilation during phase 2 cutscene (not actually a combat gimmick, but it was done way too many times in ER and got self-parodic)
>Dragons. Any dragons. It's over, it's done, you've done everything there is to do with dragons. You've exhaustively explored the dragon boss landscape, there are no worlds left to conquer.
>>
>>738908986
>disables lock on
heh
>rolls towards her last second
nothing
>her first part of the attack makes her lung halfway across the arena like a sperg
personnel
>she's too far away to land any of her other hits
kid

if you think this boss is hard at this point you need to back to blue's clues big adventure or whatever the fuck zoomers are playing nowadays
