Its Alright.
The combat is clunky and slow but deep enough to be engaging.
The characters and world are unique and creative
The grinding and random elements are not that bad
The map sucks and I got lost a few times, lucky for me the route the story takes is fairly linear and the overall scope is limited to the monastery.

I have had fun playing this and can't wait to see how shadowhearts compares.

These criticisms are bad.
Games are not a service; getting a slow delivery service or an awkward UX in a delivery app matters because you want a frictionless experience that gets you food asap.
Combat being clunky doesn't matter, just like it doesnt matter that you can't exactly tell what you are looking at when looking at a picasso or what exactly is the message behind The Treachery of Images.
Characters being unique and creative (implying new) also doesn't matter. You probably mean a combination of tropes. Characters could be the same but its their relationship to the story that matters and how they are introduced, not when they are isolated as a concept
The map sucking for lack of clarity is your own salient criticism because the map has a specific purpose, not an artistic interpretation. It must be readable and visually coherent. I disagree with your assessment of the map personally but this is your own valid criticism

I keep forgetting the name of this game. So THAT'S it.
I'm getting this and playing it on my PS Vita.

I enjoyed it overall as well. The Shadow Hearts games are better in some ways, and worse in others, but I think they're generally a bit better executed than Koudelka. Covenant is my personal favotie of them.

Each game has better gameplay than the last and a less serious story than the last. I think Koudelka through to SH2 is a good set of games that doesn't wear out the welcome and ends on a good note but From the New World is a massive piece of shit.

The soundtrack, atmosphere, characters, and (english) voice acting carry it. It is a time capsule that can't be replicated:

Literally begins with a shonen protagonist wanting to fondle a schoolgirl on a train, and only escalates the anime tropes from there. Avoid at all costs.

Best things about From the New World were the Injun tits, the supreme weeb, and the Chad El Mariachi.

Koudelka is more special than the SH games on PS2. Actually Koudelka is one of the best PS1 SHs. I hate how overrated RE2 is also. This is like a better Parasite Eve.This is like a demake of SH4

SH1 is better for sure. People say SH2 is the best, but i disagree. I hated the plot twist at the end on 2 and it really sucked on the villains, really great comedy bits though. 1 was great all the way with the reveals and it took it as serious as it should. Koudelka is SH1 but short.
