FFVII is no longer a story about anything. It's now just a product for people who want to see the characters waved around in front of their eyes in a consequence free world that goes on forever and ever like the MCU.

In a way there's never been a better time for an FFVII remake because now a lot of the things it touches upon are bigger talking points today than in 1997. But they don't actually want to talk about any of these things and even tone it all down when it does come up. Even big bad shinra isn't THAT bad and Tifa feels so sorry for all the shinra employees like some clueless out out touch boomer on facebook. Remake is more interested in multiverse Zack nonsense than having anything to talk about.

That's the kind of place this is.Midgar wasn't always a mega city. It was once a collection of villages. Shinra scrubbed that memory and left only itself. But you get to Corel and you discover that Shinra did it again. The desert prison IS COREL! After Scarlet burned it, Shinra built Gold Saucer on top of it. Dyne's house is still there. Yuffie is fighting desperately to prevent this from happening to Wutai right now. But in the Remake series they changed it so that the villages were actually where the workers who built Midgar and Corel came from. Why the fucking fuck would you change that? Why would you change Shinra scrubbing away history to convince people who don't know that they're always right? A thing that happens literally right now.
