It's only like that in the very early levels. Most enemies level 20+ are aggressive so you sit there with auto-retaliate on and passively gain exp while watching Youtube or something, and bosses are typically a lot more involved with movement and prayer swapping and such.

Long time ago I found a house with a kickable bed. I kicked it for few minutes and then 1000 uncooked lobsters appeared on the floor. I was new player so it raised my cooking quite a lot.

Any boss fights have you moving and changing prayers while still needing to do damage
