How do i get into Pokémon?
>>738919981play a game
emulate firered/leafgreen or heartgold/silver on a 3ds emulator. might as well play those if you didnt grow up with it. beware, its just a super simple rpg made for kids, these are not games made for adults or have any kind of strategy.
>>738919981If you care if the game is hard then go with Emerald, Platinum, or Heart Gold/Soul Silver. They have the Battle Frontier which is pretty challenging postgame content.
skip the first gen, start with G/S/C.
>>738920107alternatively you can play a hard mode hack made with adults in miind. sacred gold is well balanced without changing too much
How do i get into Pokémon rom hacks?
>>738920458unbound is the best and will ruin every subsequent hack for youclover is very good and you should get a kick out of the humordrayano's difficulty hacks are great ways to replay the official regions/storiesthere's plenty of non-traitional hacks that are open world, have some management aspects, are roguelikes, or some other approach. I don't care to try them though
>>738919981FireRed/LeafGreen > Emerald > Platinum > HeartGold/SoulSilver > Black/White and/or Black 2/White 2You can stop after that.
>>738919981Just pick a game you stupid bitch.
>>738919981From XY onwards is a glorified VN friendsim w/ npc frens, granted Mystery Dungeon has VN elements but thats a very gameplaycore spinoff.
Play 1 game per generation. Yellow Crystal Emerald PlatinumBlack 2YUltra MoonShieldScarlet
>>738919981Being a Pokémon fan these days suck:>Everything retro is scalped to oblivion>New games have been getting worse and worse, yet they keep topping the chartsYou can go wrong with anything on the GBA or DS though
>>738921417>Everything retro is scalped to oblivionYou have both emulation and repros and that's not including flash carts.
>>738919981I decided I’d play heart gold on a plane trip. Wasn’t as good as I’d heard. I just steamrolled the entire game with my main. Of course finally I hit a block and then it’s like.. well I’m not going to grind for days. It’s good for children and neets only.
>>738921515This, even 8 bucks repros work in Stadium games
>>738920107That's aside the Battle Frontier tho
>>738921515Repros are usually shit, they freeze or don't save well (GBA repros usually don't have an internal battery so they modified the game code to save the progress into the ROM)Also i saw most fakes are just overpriced flashcarts with a sticker
>>738922009I have a Yellow Version repro and its worked just like the original for a decade now. Are you actually sure about that from personal experience?
>>738922009Gba games didn't need batteries to save just for the time what the fuck you're on about?
>>738922061Yellow is GB game and it's a lot lighter than a GBA game.>>738922218Even without batteries, bootlegs usually use just one chip instead of two (one for the ROM and one for the save EEPROM), so they write the save inside the rom itself. There are tools specifically for Pokemon that can recover the .sav from the rom of these bootlegs to recover them. https://projectpokemon.org/home/files/file/4104-bootleg-pok%C3%A9mon-gba-save-extractor-and-injector/
>>738921417just emulate it on phone>app store -> Pokemon Emulator Pro -> install
>>738922768You're not answering my question. Size is irrelevant anyway.
>>738923024If Yellow works with stadium regardless maybe it's a good bootleg, but not all bootlegs are equal
>>738919981Play any game from gen 2-4. Then play gen 1.
>>738923198Again, are you speaking from personal experience? I don't know why you keep dodging that question. It's not as if getting a "good bootleg" is a difficult thing unless you're buying an actual bootleg game like Somari or something.
>>738923424Yeah I had a FFTA bootleg that worked exactly as i described, when i extracted the save file with a DS it was broken because the actual save was inside .gba file itself
>>738923659So you never really had any issues with the repro itself except for extracting the save.
>>738923741I did, when saving the game freezes for a few seconds, each time
>>738919981If you're under 10 years old play Emerald. If you're under 15 years old play Platinum. If you're under 20 years old play BlackIf you're over 20 this series has nothing for you.
>>738923805That's pretty common actually. Especially with authentic Pokemon games.
>>738919981start with fire red leaf green
>>738919981In this order:>Red Fire/Leaf Green>Heart Gold/Soul Silver>Emerald>Platinum>White/Black>White 2/Black 2dont bother with the rest, it doesnt worth your time and money. If you want more, play rom hacks and fangame
>>738923894>If you're over 20 this series has nothing for you.People unironically like mashing A to victory with their overleveled startersI can't think of another JRPG that let's you do that
>>738925480Literally every JRPG if you don't run from battles.
>>738925963Only in the starting areaYou also can't spam your most powerful attack/spell because you'll run out of MP
>>738923198You can just flash the correct rom, solder a battery on repros and works like a charm. Also they need the sram chip regardless if they use a rom to save inside the rom.https://youtube.com/shorts/4Dpt-ybA_bA
>>738920107play the originals the remakes are gayer
>>738919981as a pokemon fan I'd say don't bother, the series, anime and card game are in their worst spot ever. if you must just play the first 5 gens and forget about the rest
>>738920458look up a specific game you like and imagine what sort of features you'd like then Google that specific combo. or ask for specific hacks of said games and people will point you in the right direction
For me its pokerogue (dot net). Pokemon roguelite without any openworld/story, to me this is peak pokemon.
>>738919981the main difference is on available exclusive pokemon.>Timeline 1: Original Japan in the real world1-Red/Blue/Green2-Gold/Silver OR Crystal (there's merit in playing one of the original 2 instead of just Crystal but you can just play that one alright to save time)>Timeline 2: Remade Timeline, the real world is removed silently and slowly with each entry but the locations are still based on it.1-FireRed/LeafGreen AND Ruby/Sapphire OR Emerald (they happen at the same time. Emerald is better than the originals but one rival group is more neglected but you can skip straight to it just fine for the Battle Frontier)2-HeartGold/SoulSilver (direct sequels)3-Platinum (There's no real merit in playing Diamond/Pearl over this beside a couple of exclusive bad pokemon. Direct sequel to the events in Johto).4-Black THEN White 2 OR White THEN Black 2 (These are interconnected games with a plot that is not fully grasped by skipping straight to their sequels and direct continuation of Platinum. You aren't meant to play the same "color" version twice, it will make no narrative sense)5-X/Y (direct sequels)6-Sun/Moon (direct sequels, involves some characters from previous games)7-Sword/Shield + DLCs8-Legends Arceus (sequel to Platinum and involves some characters from other previous games)8-Scarlet/Violet + DLCs9-Legends ZA (sequel to X/Y)9-Wind/Waves>Timeline "Mega": Alternate reality and Multiverse shit introduced around X/Y, in these worlds some details are not precisely accurate to their original versions like designs or events. They share Megaevolution being a common thing out of Kalos.1-Yellow OR Let's Go (Yellow is more like inspired by the anime the Switch games are more like an AR of that with different canon in it)2-AlphaSapphire/OmegaRuby (They introduce the concept of Multiverse to the franchise and occur in their own instance of Hoenn)3-UltraSun/UltraMoon (They are their own instance of Alola with a completely different plot and outcome)
>>738919981>How do i get into Pokémon?Lube, viagra, and a strong rope in case the "into you" isn't reciprocal.
>>738919981If you aren't already into it then it's probably not just for you. The games are honestly the weakest part of the IP.If you want to "force" it tho, people are right that your best entry point is either Generation 3's "Emerald", or the remakes of Generation 2: "Heart Gold" and "Soul Silver".Or you can play Palworld and piss off everyone in the thread.
>>738929456>The games are honestly the weakest part of the IP.does the anime hold up?
>>738919981You play the games.
>>738920458Clover and ignore everything else
>>738929469absolutely fucking not, I regret every minute I wasted on that bullshit. I'd have been better off masturbating
>>738929469Personally I started with the anime, and stopped with the game when it become clear the feeling of the first season was never what the game were going for.Overall, the anime is kinda hit or miss. /vp/ hate it with an absolute passion. 8yo me found it cool as fuck if a bit repetitive. The first few episodes when Pikachu is an absolute dick to his trainer are worth watching in any case. The support cast change each season, so it's kinda like with JoJo: people tend to have one or two favorite seasons and despise everything else because their favorite character isn't in the others."Pokémon Origin" is a decent compromise, it's a micro-series of 4 episodes that stick to the Red/Blue games much closer than the "main" anime. Probably your best bet if you want a fast dip in the series.
>>738919981the same way you get into sonic -- HRT.
>>738929551...Alright, I guess I can write a bit more than that.I'm probably the furthest thing from a "genwunner" you can find on the Internets, but I think a newcomer to Pokemon who fancies themselves enough of a video games enthusiast to be coming to forward slash vee should start with the original Red/Blue. If you find for whatever reason you can't stomach them, it's a pretty safe bet the entire rest of the franchise isn't going to change your mind, regardless of how much more "convenient" some aspects of gameplay have become later on. They're still solid RPGs and will provide the purest of concept of what Pokemon is about.
>>738930296>should start with the original Red/Blue.I am a genwunner and fuck no. I played Red on a loop when I was a kid but it's objectively inferior to FireRed/GreenLeaf (outside of the OST) for a newcomer.
>>738928801Pokemon Nigger and Cracker are the worst in the series. Gen 6 is when the series became playable
>>738919981You don't.Save yourself now and never touch it.
>>738929469The beginning still has some sovl. It gets repetitive and loses sovl by Johto. You can then skip to the newest season if you're really bored and want to watch something with no stakes except it's woke. The TCG is playable.
>>738930628...Because FRLG showers you with (optional) tutorials & guidance geared for absolute video game beginners?
>>738931008>showers you withFRLG barely has dialogue...
>>738931331How quickly we forget.Aside from pic related, you can also turn on hints in the options menu that does stuff like popping up a text box that explains each main menu item whenever you press start, and then at the beginning of the game there's an additional explanation about the game before Oak's opening narration that explicitly tells you things you should be doing (exploring, talking to NPCs). Then there's the recap feature upon booting a previously saved game that tells you about some things you did last time. FRLG is very concerned with onboarding the less experienced.
>>738931642>you can also turn on>canMm...have you considered that I simply didn't turn on? Any of this? Why would I spend time on the game's MENU? Therefore, I simply didn't see any of this dialogue you speak of.
>>738921417I'm having a lot of fun with Let's Go Pikachu.
>>738932584I did say they are optional. 2004 was still a ways off from the age from every conceivable tutorial being forced upon you and unskippable.
>>738919981>PureRGB>SourCrystal>Perfect Emerald with SS and Day Night.>Platinum QoL>Black 2If you don't want romhacks: Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, Black 2.Stop playing right there.
>>738919981Choose your pokewaifu first and then play her game
