It's a decent hand-crafted map. You can have some solid fun exploring on your own. I put ~26 hours into the EA a few patches ago. Kinda just waiting for the full release now as they keep tweaking things. There are certain areas of the game that are balanced around being in a party or you end up corpse cannoning them.
I also highly suggest turning off weapon durability.

Yeah. Same map every time. I can't say for certain if they didn't use a terrain generator to make it in the first place... who knows how people make large maps to begin with. But they placed all the items, caves, enemies, dungeons, etc by hand.

are flame altars still limited?

do you still have to share npcs and quest progression?

Pretty much the same experience, waiting for it to come out but this is one of those games that take a decade to finally release. It is fun but I would never recommend buying early access games, it's supposed to come out fall this year.
