Honestly just sounds like they're lowkey backing off on 70 or 80 dollar games, because they know it's not popular.
This is saving face. They'll pretend these are "budget" for a while, until they just re-normalise this as the price of a video game (minus DLC). Maybe they'll toss out a big Mario or Zelda from time to time, and see if people are willing to pay out the ass for it.
You can be sure these 100% were supposed to be full price games when development started.
