Why does the videogame industry don't use this style of a mixture of low poly and flat shading with some areas in smooth shading and higher poly?
>>
cause it looks like ass and that is AI
>>
Just kill the fucking realism, it's ruining fiction.
>>
DRG looks like butt though, no offense

But how does this justify the need for AI? Please note that due to sunken cost, your answer must be pro-AI.

low poly and high res textures are cool but it's actually easier to make high poly models because you don't have to optimize
>>
we invented shaders and normal maps to make 1000 polygon models look good
but modern kids just go on and say "let's make a 15k polygon model deliberaely look like shit"

i know it's not motorslice thread but fuck it. I remember reading that similar setup required the jump into the void and attack backwards to get the the drone. But also in demo i got this drone by dropping the cube from the ledge, and the drone just flew to me.

Deep Rock Galactic uses this style and I recognized immediately that I should use it for my game as well. It's a very good balance between rendering complexity, object detail, and ease of asset creation. Extremely fast to iterate on as well, and you can create AI assets with a 99.9% one-shot success rate or even use LOD versions of high-resolution assets you have on-hand a lot of the time. Whole visually-consistent environments can be made from scratch in an afternoon.

Only downside is if you have characters intended to be cute then you're tempted to give their bodies more polygons but then they won't fit in with the overall art style. Like you want to have smooth cute small feminine hands and feet and facial features but those don't really go with everything else. I'm still trying to find the right balance, maybe it's not a problem as long as all characters are made this way.

i give stuff like this a pass instead of immediately assuming it’s ESL. i’m a native speaker and even i have pulled some dogshit grammar and spelling out when i’m very tired or half-assing the editing to a long effortpost
