"Sony Group has announced its financial results for fiscal year 2025. The Game & Network Services (G&NS) segment recorded revenue of ¥4.6857 trillion and an operating profit of ¥463.3 billion. However, the company also reported an impairment loss of approximately [$756 million USD] ¥120.1 billion (roughly ₩1.13 trillion) related to Bungie."

"Operating profit is expected to reach ¥600 billion, an increase of ¥136.7 billion year-over-year. Key drivers for this improvement include the absence of the Bungie-related impairment loss recorded in FY2025 and growth in first-party game software sales, though rising costs are expected to have a negative impact."

Bungie performed so poorly it dragged the entire company down. FYI - an impairment loss is when an asset is determined to be worth less than what the company paid for, so they drop it's value in their records. Sony bought Bungie for $3.6 billion in 2022 and it has been revised down AT LEAST by $756 million for a staggering 21.4% decline in value. Just look at the graph, imagine the massively profitable year 2025 could have been if Bungie didn't shovel their money into a fire.

Keep in mind that this report does not include any metrics from Marathon, which is estimated to be a $200 million USD loss. At this point we can only wonder how long Bungie has left?

I doubt anyone would be willing to buy Bungie from Sony, so it begs the question: what will happen to Bungie? Will they go the way of 343 and slowly shutter with the sole objective of maintaining their shitty live service, or will they get shutdown since they can't make any profit?

this is just operating loss
it's the result of heavy investment and actually an indication that the studio surpassed expectations, when the total investment was almost recouped within the first quarter

>its another lets blame Marathon for D2 and Bungie swindling Sony
Im so fucking tired of these D2 trannies acting like their game had nothing to do with the impairment loss…

>an indication that the studio surpassed expectations
Marking the asset down by 21.4% means they did not meet expectations and Sony believes they are worth 21.4% less than what they bought it for.
>the total investment was almost recouped within the first quarter
lol, there is no chance bungie raked in 3.6b in profit in a single quarter, let alone 360m in its lifetime with Sony.

It's certainly Destiny 2 that's responsible for the impairment loss, as Marathon was not released in time for the report but Marathon will probably be responsible for Bungie getting shuttered as it severely underperformed.

they don't seem to expect that much profit from Wolverine and GTA

Wolvermine maybe not, but GTA6 will print money for them as PS5 will be the lead console.
