I remember never figuring out how to get other creatures, and I only made it to the third island I think
There was one creature behind a gate on the first island but my child mind couldn't figure it out

BW1 is such a special game to me, I'd have replayed it a 100 times over if it wasn't for that neverending tutorial.

God games have an RTS base with AI for your people. UE 5 doesn't support RTSes well, and modern fuckers can't make the AI for the people anymore.,

Actually I don't think you can? At least not of a new playthrough, the creature data will remain the same no matter which save you load. I could be wrong though. But yes I could have remembered to do that and keep a save file on every consequent harddrive I had but I'm not that serious about it.

You can skip the tutorial, but you’ll need patch 1.2 installed first. After that, just play through it once until you reach Land 2, and from then on every new game should let you skip it.

Not this anon but another PSA: make sure you get a free frame rate limiter program to lock the fps to 60 for this game. The speed of the game is tied to your FPS and all of the physics break on modern hardware that can run it at like 400fps
