I never cared much for random battles but I don't like the Overworld encounters much either. I pretty much don't like JRPG battles except for well done boss fights or gauntlets but those are few and far between dozens of crap battles, particularly in DQ where job changes can force you to start grinding. I do kind of like exploring dungeons and cities and to a lesser extent the overworld and that might get dull if there weren't monsters, but those might as well be scripted and actually well designed section of the dungeon after you complete a few puzzles or something as opposed to just a little distraction of crap chaff thrown at you.

The popularity of Slay the Spire 2's multiplayer gets me thinking there is an untapped market for multiplayer turned based games. I feel like a major developer could marry the focus on consistent battles and resource management of StS with some story and style and more of the filler of JRPGs.
