The little gestures and dialogue, the grime from a dungeon crawling session. They went all out on the little touches. Only reason I shelved it was because I was burnt out on dungeon crawlers in general. If it came out when I was playing Elminage and Grimiore and obsessed with the genre I would have been hooked.

With Lanavaille you have passive healing after every battle allowing you to plough through the dungeon with reckless abandon because most of the damage you take becomes meaningless because you'll heal more than you take. And that's just one character, with their basic passive skill, before even adding any levels to it.

The original version of Wizardry 1 auto-saved after every input so you couldn't save scum, so it's really just a return to form in one sense. The lives mechanic helps let there be a little leniency so you can take some risks, but when you're out of lives it really ups the tension when dungeon-diving. I could see a standalone game stealing it and making it so lives get refilled when you return to town or something instead of being a mobile timegate mechanic.

The meta was still mainly 3-4 warriors. With the old EVASION meta getting shafted hard as every enemy gets crazy high accuracy by Abyss 4. But stacking Evasion pretty much trivialized Abyss 1 and 2.The game can be downright boring as a F2P, you're not really at a huge disadvantage like retards ITT claim. But it is simply boring becuase you will pretty much only be using 1 party for the entire game and it can get repetitive.Also if you start looking up guides becuase you get lost, then you may also end up burning out, especially by the 4th Abyss.Personally, I got burned out during Abyss 4 and have not completed it. I just entered the mines after clearing the Ice Wolves for reference.

If you play this as a single player game, playing it in bursts from time to time when content drops, grinding just enough to progress and ignoring the gacha, it's a really fun game. Hell, sometimes I think the comeback campaign gives more than what I would get playing during a month.
