i have 100 new words left in kaishi 1.5k, but am still undecided whether to start a mining deck next or find a larger pre-made deck. either way, i think i'll study grammar while improving my stats on kaishi for a while. it's not so bad overall if you go in expecting japanese to take several years before you start to feel comfortable.
>>
>>738974179
Kaishi's just meant to act as a warmup. You're ready to start diving into some real material. I recommend you start mining alongside an AI model like ChatGPT or Gemini. It can teach and breakdown what you're looking at as you learn.

Djt thread
No point in learning Japanese when they're getting flooded by Indians and other browns
And I can just use AI to translate everything. I'm slowly reading and noticing more words and I'm understanding the nuances that get cut from localization
>>
>>738974462
djt isn't really necessary anymore for learning. AI invalidates all the old learning methods
>>
>>738974321
>I recommend you start mining alongside an AI model like ChatGPT or Gemini. It can teach and breakdown what you're looking at as you learn.
i'm suspicious of this method, not so much in the use of ai itself as a tool, but rather because it seems like something that could easily become a crutch, leading to a lesser understanding compared to those who learned japanese without ai. also, i feel as though my knowledge of vocabulary and grammar is still functionally insufficient. aside, thank you for the advice, anon.
>>
>>738973979
Sounds like you need to improve then.
>>
>>738975013
Learning is never a crutch. On the contrary, pre-AI learners struggled greatly with grammar concepts and more advanced sentence structure because they had no reference material with which to learn from. It's really no different than having a teacher or an experienced learner helping you out.
Honestly, the people who don't take advantage of it are the ones missing out and stunting their growth.

>>

>>
>>738976803
That's the point, understand it in japanese directly.
>>
>>738976853
No, you're literally not understanding it.
>>
>>738976640
It means immersing yourself fully into the language and understanding the concepts as presented in a flowing manner instead of trying to attribute concepts that exist in their native language to what they are reading.
For example, there are a shit ton of examples of clever use of grammar and "tricks" of a language to create a deep and thoughtful phrase that when trying to translate loses a lot of the "charm" of the original prose, whereas knowing the conventions of a language and how it interacts internally can create a better experience.

Basically, not taking the language as is leads to people who technically know japanese, but in trying to translate it to their native tongue, they come to the conclusion that it is "Dry".
>>
>>738976932
That's not understanding it. That's just pretending to know it.
>>
>>738977028
Which was the point of my original post, so many people try to learn a language and then in their head translate it to their native tongue and get a worse experience because of it.

I'm lucky that I got to grow up with both English and Farsi. Anyone who speaks English + a language that has pronunciations that don't exist has an advantage when it comes to making sense of, not only how other languages work, but how to wrap your head (and tongue) around how to pronounce shit that sounds impossible at first.

The good news for EOP is that Japanese is actually pretty easy to pronounce properly since, from what I've gathered, 99% of it uses similar phonics to English and doesn't veer into the crazy sounding shit you hear in Chinese, for example. Though I may have that impression due to the Farsi part of my vocab doing some of the heavy lifting; can't say for sure.

Then some months later I eventually get annoyed by the amount of hgames I want to play that are left untranslated or another trannylator/localizer fuckup in some video game or anime and then try again, repeating the cycle.
It has been somewhere around 20 attempts already.

I didn't. After AJATTing for two years, I spent a year in Japan last year and after being able to deal with hospital, dentist and all kinds of daily shit solo in Japanese, I properly realised the length that "N1 is basically just the beginning" is. None of that stuff was overly hard at all, I knew everything I need to know, but phrasing things like a Japanese person was the hardest part. The nurses were really excited to talk to a foreigner that could speak JP though, even if I wasn't good compared to natives.

I thought so, but I was surprised by how many situations come up that don't match shit you see in media. During those situations it's easy to fuck up in the moment and realise later. I mean, I basically went from outputting maybe once or twice every few weeks to dropping in at the deep end. I improved a shitload as a result very quickly while I was there. I wish I hadn't been so stubborn and had started outputting properly earlier, I feel like I kneecapped myself by waiting so long. I do a lot better now, but I could've been at this level sooner. No point getting hung up on what-ifs, I guess.

I agree, though technically it's been three and a half years now. The thing I was happiest about was being able to comprehend almost everything that was said to me, but I did have a few moments where I embarrassed myself by not catching something very quickly. It's not lost on me that a lot of Japanese people tended to simplify their language assuming I'd understand nothing, though. I really appreciated it when they didn't.

Regardless, I just need to keep practising, that's all there is to it.

>I have the attention span, short term memory and discipline of a zoomer with ADHD and if I am not held by my hand with a plan laid out for me for how to progress I lose motivation in a matter of weeks and feel burnt out.
Literally me. I thought I was doing pretty good for a couple of months and then all of a sudden I stopped and never went back.

Japanese writing often sucks, its true, the west is simply centuries ahead of them.
Not saying there is no good Jap writing but most of it is mediocre.

I think their humor and creativity is kinda unique in a way and they deliver good fan service as well and thats what actually makes their media appealing, not the depth of their writing.

That said, I'm still waiting for a decent way to have my jap games translated by AI in real time.

>I wish I hadn't been so stubborn and had started outputting properly earlier, I feel like I kneecapped myself by waiting so long.
Bruh, AJJAT (at least the proper version and not the scammer jewtuber version) literally REQUIRES you to output as soon as humanly possible alongside the immersion, even if you have to talk to a tulpa like a schizo.

I'm too stupid to learn a new language. Like I'm genuinely on the 80-90 IQ range.

>>738989250
That's the level I'm going for. I'm only learning the language to play vidya and I don't actually care about going to Japan or talking to any nips.
