Why does it feel like there are so few developer to have figured out 3D anime style?

The only others I can think of besides Arcsys are Mihoyo who can spend an infinite amount of money per-character bc that's their main selling point.

It's actually pretty hard to get right, and when you get it wrong the results can be disastrous. But there's a lot more examples than just those two. Any anime gatcha game made in the past 2 years for example. Then there's the new Mana games and Trials remake.

I'm honestly asking how they're getting this sort of lighting with that topology. The only way I can think of is to just manually paint the shadow areas to make a mask then force the lighting engine to consider those shadows for the specific closeups/scenes it'll be used for

IMO they're definitely working differently and that comes from studying the models and making studies using Strive assets in Unity/Unreal
desu I haven't been able to get the characters to look "right", assets like Ram's sword look good but characters and especially face shadows are too jagged

It's amazing how Arcsys evolved on their 3D graphics like 10 years ago they can't make multiple alt costumes (Xrd Elphelt only one) because of the complex lighting and shading. Now they finally can do multiple alt costumes and accessories experimented on Granblue Rising and Strive.

Unironically, I think ZZZ has its own unique style and doesn't look that anime. I think HSR is the closest to a standard anime style. ZZZ looks closer to a pixar movie in a way, especially with how animated it is and uses exagerrated motions.

Not only are those people the definition of a vocal minority and not representing me or 99% of the people who played, tried and or shit talk a game like dnf duel but dnf duel is exceedingly bad and worst of all BORING even by those standards. The original dfo game is fast and 8ing has shown multiple times that they can make fast games that fit the throwing the balance out the window hitboxes and style. Why the fuck does this game feel like that to move around when the moves are like that, why is there only one super move, why can you only access said super move when you lose a certain amount of health, why would you put a fucking block meter? It's a combination of decisions that are too stupid together even for 8ing.

You need to realize why SJ can grind through so many cancelled serializations and mangaka before getting the one killer hit
Most the money and sales is going through SJ, other magazines do their own thing with more selective/stable serializations but a much smaller readerbase and hence much less going to the authors.
