steam controller was just saved
>>
>>738967528
Saved from what, people love it, it's sold out, and the only people who don't love it are retarded pajeets and trannies on /v/.
>>
SDL supports every controller under the sun this is nothing special
>>
>>738967528
so the controller works like a controller on Linux, but not Windows?
>>
>>738969020
Yeah
>>
>>738967528
>>738968892
>Only Steam games and not Epic, Nintendo, Xbox, Hoyoverse, Playstation, Tencent, Nexon, itchio, Newgrounds and more.
Just in case anyone thinks it actually works outside the Steam Ecosystem.
>>
>>738969160
valvetrannies will now say "who even plays those trash games xDD"
>>
>>738967528
I'll be interested when xinput is supported.
>>
>>738969160
Are you just dumb or reading from a script?
>>
>>738971268
Xinput was a total meme and I'm glad that it is dying.
>>
>>738969160
>Epic
Who the fuck would ever use epic?
>Nintendo
Emulators all suppoet SDL :)
>Xbox
All on Steam.
>Hoyoverse
Gachaslop aren't games and gachaniggers aren't people.
>Playstation
Ah yes. All those great Playstation games like... ummm... uhh... yeah...
>Tencent
All their games are on Steam.
>Nexon
Also on Steam.
>itchio
Not like you need any advanced features foe the indieslop you can find there, so the default xbox 360 inputs in lizard mode are enough. Or you can just add to Steam.
>Newgrounds
Same as itchio.
>>
RESIST THE GASLIGHTING
I JUST TRIED TO PLUG MY STEAN CONTROLLER IN AND PLAY OUTSIDE OF STEAN AND IT DID NOT WORK NO DEVICE RECOGNIZED
DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID
THEY ARE MARKERING
>>
>>738969407
Like clocwork, look at this tranny lmao
>>738973669
>>
>>738973869
Try duckstation
>>
wish they'd fix the lg4ff driver for windows so I could add wheel support in my game
>>
>>738973869
The issue is that you're using an outdated OS that doesn't support it. Try switching to any modern Linux distro and it will justwerk.
>>
>>738973952
Not what I said, but sure. Also not a tranny btw.
>>
>>738969160
Of course, lol lmao
>>
>>738974383
>modern Linux

*Barfs*
>>
>>738974383
You have to download dozens of launcher bloat just to play mlst of non steam videogames on linux
No thanks
>>
>>738969020
Windows is an antique nobody wants
>>
When Steam Controller works on Windows I'll buy one.
>>
>>738974540
Not perfect, sure, but it's sure as hell preferable to
>modern hindows
>>738974590
>You have to download dozens of launcher bloat just to play mlst of non steam videogames on linux
Just use Lutris. Or even Proton by itself if you're opposed to using a launcher for some reason.
Anyway, enjoy constantly tardwrangling wangblows to do what you want it to. Linux will still be here when you grow up and just want your shit to work.
>>
>>738974752
it's hilarious that an OG Xbox controller with a spliced USB cable (since it was built off the USB protocol) just werks on Linux but not on modern Windows
>>
>>738974752
>just use X or Y
this is the problem with you linux niggers. The next poster will say some dumb shit like "don't use X or Y use Z!!".
>>
what's sdl3? is it a controller protocol like dinput and xinput?
>>
We saw months ago that there were Linux kernel modules supporting it native via SDL, so this is not a huge surprise. Glad they're pushing it even farther and SDL3 support even on Windows, but I mentioned several times that either Valve would do it themselves or someone else would make a stand alone utility thanks to the open spec and SDL.
>>
>>738969020
...don't tell me people on /v/ are still using Windows.
>>
Has any meaningful progress been made getting the Switch 2 controllers to work wirelessly on PC (even if just Linux)? Last I checked was late last year, at a resounding "no" or "possibly but with annoying caveats".
>>
>>738975153
>people on video game board like to use the operating system that allows them to play games instead of wasting their time troubleshooting forever.
woah no way
>>
>>738969160
>The always online DRM controller still pretty much only works on steam.
One hundred dollars btw.
Steamgoyim will own nothing and be happy.
>>
>>738967528
DEF BUYING THIS OVER A PS4 CONTROLLER DESU
UNLESS I CAN GET 1 USED OR
FIX THE 1S I HAVE.
IM FUCKING BROKE THO LOL
>>
>>738975112
A collection of multi platform libraries.
Things like creating a window, audio, input… are different for each operating system, SDL handles that for you. So your software works everywhere. It’s mostly for game development. Most game engines use it.
Im not sure if it started at valve, valve funded it or it was developed by a valve employee.
>>
>>738967528
did i get banned
>>
>>738969160
>Ecosystem
you are a homosexual
>>
A hundred dollars for an always online DRM controller that doesn't even have xinput on the OS most people use.
Pls buy, valve needs yet another yacht.
>>
>>738975314
>unc still thinks we're in the "linux is bad" days

Smdh, do you think Bush is still the president too?
>>
>>738975817
>DRM controller
it's hardware, what does DRM refer to here?
>>
>>738975667
>Im not sure if it started at valve, valve funded it or it was developed by a valve employee.
The guy who created SDL got hired by Valve at some point yes
>>
>>738975942
does it have xinput without having steam open at all times on windows yet?
>>
>>738976087
I dunno. I'm the wrong person to ask as I haven't been paying attention to this controller.
DRM is "digital rights management" and usually refers to blocking the usage of digital files without some kind of key or something.

3.76 MB MP4
Ok, how is this guy using trackpads to play a game like zelda and will I be able to do that shit with the controller or is that possible only on the 'eck?
>>
>Play most of games on emulators
This is a win for me.
>>
>>738967528

tranny API

I know it is bad.

But how does it perform with Shenmue II?
>>
>>738967528
>>738968109
>The controller only works while steam is opened!!!!
>Turn on PC
>Turn on controller without steam
>It works

Why the fuck are you people like this?
>>
>>738976969
does it have xinput without steam open at all times on windows yet?
>>
>>738976969
My PS5 controller also technically ""works"" without steam open.
>>
>>738974898
And then once you're informed about all the options, you can choose which one works best for you instead of having to use the one shitty option you have on wangblows! Great, right?
>>
>>738977617
No not really
>>
>>738977678
>Native option is somehow worse than jeet coded glued together launchers

Linuxtroons are something else
>>
Don't know why it couldn't just natively work with just the dongle. Isn't that what it's for?
>>
>>738975314
>the operating system that allows them to play games
That describes Linux.
>instead of wasting their time troubleshooting forever.
That describes microdick hinduws.
So the question stands. Why are you still using wangblows in 2018 + 8?
>>
>>738978085
according to troons like this: >>738973613
things just working out of the box is a bad thing
>>
>>738975504
>The always online DRM controller
Which would that be? It's certainly not the one with an open source driver in the Linux kernel.
>Steamgoyim will own nothing and be happy.
That's consolecattle. I own all my games since I have them backed up.
>picrel
If that bothers you, you can install any other OS on the 'eck or 'ube. The default is meant to be simpler but they're not preventing you from installing something else.
>>
>>738975817
>A hundred dollars
Is this supposed to be outrageous or something? Name a better controller that's cheaper. Hell, name a better controller at all.
>an always online DRM controller
Wrong. Werks fine on Linux. Maybe stop using the always online DRM OS if this bothers you.
>doesn't even have xinput
That's a good thing. Xinput can be emulated. Wine/Proton for example does this.
>the OS most people use.
Most people are retarded cattle. You're not, right?
>>738976087
>windows
Why does this matter for you?
>>
>>738976764
>I know it is bad.
Knowing implies that you're correct, which you're not. When did you last try Linux and which distro did you use?
>>
>>738976243
Most emulators support SDL, which means the controller will work directly. You can also add the emulator or the ROM to Steam if you want more customization.
>>
>>738977771
>jeet coded glued together
You're describing wangblows.
>>
>>738975667
that's interesting... it sounds like an abstraction layer for low level apis between operating systems. so only games that leverage this api can forgo steam input basically? does steam controller even have onboard memory for your config? and how is that better than just a simple onboard xinput translation layer?
>>
>>738977617

Lol
>>
>>738979553
>how is that better than just a simple onboard xinput translation layer?
https://wiki.libsdl.org/SDL3/FrontPage

Far more inputs, you can slap gyro, 50 analog buttons and all the jazz, Xinput is limited by xbox layout.
>>
>>738971268
XInput is an outdated piece of junk that doesn't recognize features found in most modern controllers.
>No gyro.
>You can't map extra buttons.
>no trackpads
>It doesn't have haptic feedback like HD Rumble, for example.
>It doesn't support adaptive triggers.
>It doesn't work well with specialized controllers like steering wheels and pedals.
You have to install third-party software if you want to do it (Chinese controllers require their own proprietary software). I hope this Steam controller will wake Windows up and start supporting SDL, but knowing the Pajeet company, I don't expect much.
>>
>>738971268
This. I only play games that support Games for Windows Live.
>>
Xinput? SDL? I'm only support the old directinput from xp and win 98
