The "fans" don't know what they want. And if you were to listen to the "fans" in the case of Killing Floor, there wouldn't even be any sequels at all. Because you can't make any changes to gameplay, something as simple as a sprint button was enough to enrage the "fans". And you can't use a modern engine, because the "fans" are all poorfags that haven't upgraded their computers in the past decade or more.
Moreover and quite ironically, people tend to only refer to themselves as fans when they dislike something, and these people can't be pleased. They will hate your game no matter what you do.

While I agree fans can be wrongheaded, but can the devs also be wrong? Like Payday 3 and KF3 both launched undercooked and lacking content after supporting KF2 and Payday 2 for years. The increased price is basically a DLC expansion pack for not a whole lot other than some necessary QOL and gameplay changes that can't be implemented in the previous game.
