>game is 90% cutscenes
>every single line of dialogue within those cutscenes is completely juvenile and cringeworthy
>gets called the greatest jrpg of all time

I can understand why you guys would like this game when you were a dumb kid, but has anyone actually played this game for the first time as an adult and enjoyed it? It's not even one of those "kids movies that adults can enjoy too" like wall-e or something, its one of those "kids shows that only kids can enjoy" like power rangers. Don't get me wrong, I liked retarded edgy shit games when I was a kid too, like the sonic adventure games, but at least now as an adult I can recognise that they were objectively dogshit, even if i still enjoy them.

no, its really not. the game is genuinely bad. do you seriously find it hard to belive that someone who played the game the first time as an adult would think the dialogue is shit in this game?
>>
What does big boy dialogue look like? Can be from any medium

They use swear words

some movies ive enjoyed recently include whats eating glibert grape, uncut gems, and memento. i would very much struggle to name games that i think have good dialogue.

Nah, I'm thinking FFX is better.

I find it crazy that every team got to make multiple FF games except the 9 team.
9 is by far the best JRPG ever made and they got shafted
>>

They made 12 tho

Wasnt that the FFT team?

Adult sentai fandom is huge.
You are simply wrong.

when you realise oh shit, this guy actually does enjoy media thats not written for children, so you have to resort to calling him names rather than just being honest with yourself and admitting that you like childrens media because you are a manchild.

FF devolved into moviegame slop as far back as the PS1, maybe even the SNES with FF6.
If you want JRPG with a focus on mecanics and build autism, play a difference series. FF is for normalfags that don't acutally like video games.
>>
>>738989216
I like both. And the SaGa games had more story than most pre-PS1 FFs.

>more story than most pre-PS1 FFs
You mean the FF games that were essentially gameplay-focused digital table top games?
>>
>>738989216

If I wanted to play RPGs with a focus on gameplay I would not be playing JRPGs

Put the dogs back on their leash.
Is this metaphor 'bad writing'? Do I need to explain what I fucking mean for hollywood watching subhumans? Fuck this shitty board

>>738987630
This had more meaningful cutscenes than the useless filter cutscenes that bloat modern FFs now.
>>
>>738989394
If I want wanted something with a good story I wouldn't be playing a game.

Then why are you posting the dogshit RS2 demake made for that very audience?
>>
>>738991312
and using this simple flowchart we can deduce that there is never a good time to play a jrpg. and yet its still this boards favourite genre. almost as if what they enjoy is looking at pictures of anime women and seeing a level counter increase, rather than actually playing videogames.

Your opinions are not facts.

>gets called the greatest jrpg of all time
Literally nobody does, nobody even called it the greatest FF of all times.

>has anyone actually played this game for the first time as an adult
Yes I did
>and enjoyed it?
Not only I did, I actually enjoyed much more because now I'm more capable to appreciate good writing

So basically, in terms of Japanese media, a work like Final Fantasy X has the same level of 'writing' as a shounen work- ie, something targeting an audience that is, primarily, teenage boys. Lots of characters speaking bluntly, defining themselves in simple terms, etc.
Something like say, The Monogatari Series, is held in a higher regard but largely does the same thing. Kaiki is a liar that distorts the narrative of his stories, but he outright tells you that, that kind of thing.

"Mature" writing doesn't really exist in video games I'd say, a lot of it reaches "prestige TV" at best, which is often still written for a general audience. You'll rarely today see a game that is written anticipating an audience that is intelligent, mainly because these things all need to hit a large enough audience to justify the costs spent on them.
In anime though, that isn't so much the case, so anime with mature writing can include
>FLAG
>(ironically considering the source materials) Ie Naki Ko and Akage no Anne
(maybe) Shinsekai Yori

This isn't a qualitive statement though. My favourite game from last year was blatantly a game for teenagers, about teenagers with one note characters fighting antagonists with one note characters and with fairly simple messages (pic related), and I only actually like half the anime I just mentioned.

I really like FFX in the end for many things it does, but the way the dialogue is delivered is actively painful and I found most of it it cringe even in middle school. It tries way to hard to be this emotional thing that feigns nuance despite how soapy it is. It has some really effective moments and scenes, but so much of it is excessively drawn out and silly, especially stuff involving the 'rival summoners' who act like schoolchildren trying to one up you (which is absurd when they're aiming to sacrifice themselves).

>>738988501
>Adult sentai fandom is huge.
Of course, actual sentai is much better than Power Rangers and I was delighted on seeing how fun to watch the 'real' shows were.
>>
>>738987630
It was a generations first Final Fantasy. That's why it's propped up

It's funny how people drag the game for being too in your face about things, but then there are some parts that are more subtle and that you need to pick up yourself and no one does.

JRPGs have always been played by autists who were too weird to play stuff like Call of Duty
>>
>>738995296
thanks
>>
>>738995095
i mean can you blame them

case in point the laugh scene
it's very well done but ended up being completely misinterpreted because 30 seconds later Yuna delivers a monologue about smiling that ends with the fire line "and guardians... don't forget to smile!!!!"

i think it's fair for someone to not take the game seriously from that. from a viewer's standpoint you can't have seemingly odd but really layered dialogue followed by bullshit without the bullshit obscuring those great parts. basically why should I spend effort parsing these things for hidden brilliance when it's already been demonstrated for me elsewhere that they didn't care to hide those things.
>>
>>738995385
people forgetting the dialogue feeling so weird and disjointed was because it was. the english voice acted was designed to match the lip syncing of the japanese script. its why auron has the best lines cause he wasnt shackled by this weird restriction cause his mouth is always hidden.
>>
I agree with you OP don't worry this board is populated with immature retards
>>
>>738993523
Shinsekai yori is literally the most juvenile piece of media out of everything else you referenced
