https://youtu.be/6QCWM7WnovEDid anybody play the demo? Was it fun?
>>738992798Which will suck the most?
>>738992874Are the original writers involved in any of them?
>>738992798>DemoHuh?
>>738992943Kurvitz and Rostov founded Red Info
>>738992943Kurvitz was the main writer for DE and the guy who wrote the novel they based the game on, if anyone will understand the "Disco" appeal it'll be him.Dark Math and Summer Eternal got the 2nd largest crop after the split, they will likely go all out on the witty dialogue and the humor.Longdue has some of the newer writers who joined late in the project. Will probably feel the least "Disco" of all the expats.ZA/UM has like 2-3 guys from that writing team.
>>738992798>"lock in operant"
>>738992874problem is attempting to imitate disco elysium. same reason why smarter devs didn't attempt to copy planescape torment and when they did it was clearly inferior.
>>738993107>>738993097Neat, cheers.
>>738993107>the guy who wrote the novel they based the game onIt goes back further than that. The novel is itself built off the back of an original homebrew pen and paper RPG setting he made.
>>738993281What I don't understand is why he won't just design and sell a new version of that homebrew. I mean there's currently a successful kickstarter of fucking Tom Clancy's The Division TTRPG running, so if people found out that "THE GUY" behind Disco Elysium made one, it would probably rake in a decent amount.
>>738993551Well the thing is, in one of his early interviews, he explained that the longterm goal was to turn it into a franchise so he could make enough money to finally one day make a full blown tabletop RPG system for it. I'm assuming that after the difficulty they had getting DE finished and shipped, since there's a lot of dialed back content, he decided against just crowdfunding it or begging for investors. It's his passion project and it's the part he wants to do perfectly. Which means money out the ass.
>>738993872Huh, I did not know that. Guess that explains my issue perfectly. Thanks for enlightening me.
>>738992874how the fuck did the original studio just implode like this
>>738994113It's the most Disco result.
>>738994113Business greed. Creatives got screwed over out of their positions in the company.
>>738993253That's also because PS:T basically bombed on release and only earned its cult status over the long years.
>>738994298It sort of fits. It's like the ending of Braveheart.
>>738992798very pretty visually, I assume they're the same artists as in disco?difficult to say anything beyond that, the game hinges almost entirely on the writing, and it's impossible to glean much from a trailer like that
>>738994957according to >>738992874 this is the game being made by the studio still carrying the same name.
>>738994957>he same artistsRostov was lead artist on Disco and he's not working at ZA/UM anymore. It's just whoever's left aping his style to con normies into thinking it's a real spiritual successor.
>>738994957At least half of the DE's following came from the protagonist being such a miserable sack of shit of a character, I simply doubt they can achieve the same with a female character.
>>738992874Is any of these starring a man?
>>738992874I don't know what most of these games are.Esoteric Ebb is the best narrative RPG released in Disco Elysium's wake.I played the Zero parades demo, but stopped at the audiophile hipster guy. Haven't gone back. I have high hopes for Travelling at Night, but I'll probably end up disappointed. There also another game called Shores of Jord I have my eye on, but the project has gone silent for a while now.
>>738998287Have you played Sovereign Syndicate?
Esoteric Ebb was not very goodIf that's what's considered "good" by Disco clone standards we're in for some years of endless slopBtw reminder that Kurvitz originally wanted the game to have real combat / gameplay like PST and the only made it all dialogue-based due to their team's limitations
>>738998287>Shores of JordUh-huh.Well let me just take a look at the steam page.> Mature content: The game contains the use of tobacco and alcohol as part of the game mechanics, and there are references to other substances without the option to use them. Violent acts are presented as part of the story, with rare instances of player participation. Women may be portrayed as beautiful and provocative.> Women may be portrayed as beautiful and provocative.???
>>738998463No.Is it any good?
>>738998645Eh. It's a steampunk Victorian deal. One of the playable character is a minotaur.
>>738998287>Traveling at Night I love the lore and atmosphere of their setting and the idea of an RPG about journeying through various occult centres around Europe is great. But with how their previous games looked, I'm a bit sceptical of whether they'll be able to deliver a good experience that's actually based on dialogue and more conventional story-telling rather than mostly short lore-blurbs and abstract gameplay Also knowing them I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow managed to make a Disco-like into a fucking grindfest
>>738992874If it has a female MC I'm simply not playing it, that's all.
>>738999130Hum.The reviews seem quite critical of it.Accusations of weak writing seem to be the main thing of note. There's a demo, so I'll test the waters with that first,
>>738992874Loyalist here
>>739000563>all three revealed so far have female protagonistsBLYAAAAAAT
>>739000876>slavishly follow their inspiration to the letter>except slap a foid on lol lmaoWhy does this happen so fucking often
>>738992874>hope town seems to have barely revealed anything yet>tangerine antarcticswitched to full 3d and looks like absolute ass. pic NOT related.
I watched the documentary and they all seem like a fun bunch to hang around with
>>738998645No.
>>738992798VA sucks, but otherwise the demo was better than what I expected. Plot and setting feel properly intriguing.
>>738992798As a comment on the original video said, this game will be up against Alpha Protocol, not Disco Elysium.
They changed the Steam cover image for the release. I preferred the older one. Too much purple now.
>Harry was a complete DILF >ZTP MC has the most disgustingly sad pair of tits and fridge body type that i have ever laid my eyes upon in a long time despite supposedly being qbout this athletic spy femme fatale. Why are they like this?
>>738994113Retarded commies didn't know how to run a business and got in bed with shady entrepreneurs. Retarded commies didn't realize that people who run companies actually expect consistent work and throw a tantrum. Turns out retarded commies also don't read their contracts and lose all rights to their project after refusing to work. Kurvitz will never be able to deliver something as good as DE again if he doesn't accept that he needs normal humans to help organize things and learn how to work consistently with a team not made up exclusively of retarded commies.
>>738992874Maybe I'm retarded but what stopped them from just working things out and keeping the studio intact, anyway? Why are there so many offshoots?
>>739002883Exact same thing happened to Mike with SkullgirlsYou would have think an american kike would have a natural knowledge of money scams, alas...
>>739003027Most of the old devs left or got fired after the takeover. I dont know if they left out of sympathy for Kurvitz or they simply got the boot because they did not fit the Larry Fink bonus agenda
>>739000876I think Tangerine anarctic allows creating the character model
>>739000421>Also knowing them I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow managed to make a Disco-like into a fucking grindfest I hope not, but given how AK is weirdly obsessed with that kind of mechanisms the possibility is real.I'm still going to get it day one (and play the public demo in july), because aesthetically and plot-wise I love what Weather Factory is doing.
>>739003461>and play the public demo in julyOh, good to know! July will also be the first period in fucking months when I'll actually have some more free time, so good timing here
>>739002795Pretty much all commie women IRL have sad tits and fridge bodies if they're not landwhales so it's what their "men" are used to.
The narrator is some annoying old woman with irritating voice
>>738998287Probably a long way off but the developers of Suzerain are making a Disco-like in the setting. The devs of Slay the Princess have one in the works as well.
>>739003746That's what I understood from one of their last blog at least.in the meantime I'm off playing the The Matter of Being demo. I'm very tempted to use WF open licence for their secret histories stuff and attempt to do my own game.
>>739004753I've been actually working on a TTRPG heavily inspired by their setting before I even learned about the open license thing. I'll probably stick to what I've developed for it myself, but it's very cool for them to do that
>>739004898Oh nice ! You used the Lady Afterward as basis, or did you do your own system ? Very curious about your setup, I would love to see a full fledged, official SH TTRPG.
>>739005057I considered it, but from what I've seen The Lady Afterwards is heavily based on Call of Cthulhu... which I do enjoy, but it's a very old-school, crunchy and somewhat clunky system. I felt like something a bit lighter and more narrative and character focused would work better for such a convention. What I'm cooking is probably the most similar to Storyteller system (World of Darkness). Very free-form character creation and progression, mechanics that reward roleplaying certain social masks, success chance based on combination of most appropriate attribute and skill, fairly flexible, free-form approach to rituals, powers and other form of magic, mechanics for tracking the character's power, influence and mental state, for tracking what sort of assets they have access to etc. I hope to run some first play-tests when my current horrible work crunch ends, probably this summer
You're not an ultraliberal, Harry. Get the fuck out of here. Don't be a retard.
>>739006301Make me wonder how the spheres from Mage:tA would work if rebranded as SH principles.
>>739002162>this game will be up against Alpha Protocol, not Disco ElysiumKino? Kino.
>>739002795Aren't you a washed out spy beyond your prime? I imagine Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde but slav.
>>739007691Judging from the demo it's a pretty good analogy actually.
>>739006880Mage spheres are more about what aspect of reality you're trying to affect, while SH principles are more about the goal/flavour of what you're doing and about what powers you call upon to achieve it. Most of them wouldn't really align very well I think. For example any magic that directly affects somebody's thoughts, emotions, perception or other sorts of cognitive processes would fall under the Mind sphere in Mage, but in SH this could correspond to half of the principles depending on what exactly it is you're trying to do to somebody's (or your own) mind
>>739008143As a matter of fact the ultra specialized Mage spheres always bothered me - that you can be an entropy archmagos with god-like powers of luck and fate, but being unable to heal a light skin scratch because you don't even have Life 1 always struck me as dumb. That the SH principles kind of split along modal lines make me feel it would be a more interesting sphere system than the original one (or at least one I would love to try).
>>738992798Zero Parades, more like Zero Purchases lmaooooooooo
>>739008143I guess they had to balance it somehow, a creative Mage player can do crazy shit even with a hyper-specialised character. But yeah, I am in general not a big fan of how both old and nu Mage decided to resolve the concept.
>>739009523Shit, meant to reply to >>739008590
>>738998520I thought Ebb was made by a solodev. Was I misinformed?
>>739002795I think you're just gay. Because Harry looks like a dead man walking
>>739002795>ZTPZero-Tits Parades?
>>739010691Zilent Tits Porncoming.>>739010217He was meant to say Jean Vicquemeare. We sure will find some teenage slut on the game and will have funny neurotic dialogs of jelously with the MC (unless there are jews and women on the dev team, which in that case, this is dead on arrival).
>>738992874Hopetown, ZP, and Tangerine will probably ALL suck.Red Info and Summer Eternal feel like the only true hopes. I'd like to hope otherwise, but meh.
>>739007523We need a kino sequel to Alpha Protocol.
I hope I can shoot people in this one.
>>739014757You can already shoot people in disco elysium.
>>739014902I mean more people. Spy shit.
>>738994113Guy with an idea begs investors for a pittance to make his dream game. They get it from shady businessmen ready to just take over the studio when they cant pay back. Disco Elysium is a big hit, makes a lot of money. The businessmen had one of their own be one of the founders, makes up harrasment charges on Kurvitz and takes full control over the company ousting anyone who dares to object, laughing to the bank thinking the IP will generate infinite profit. They even pulled the wool over youtubers like People Make Games who did hour long investigative videos on the event and kept saying what a bad guy Kurvitz is.Burning like the brightest star before fading out completely to the machinations of fellow man. And I dont think Harry wouldve had it any other way.
>>739015516But where are proofs of this?
>>738992798Bolo
>>738992874they all will
>>738992798No, it was awful, and HEAVILY insisting upon itself.
>>739018329Explain.
Speaking of DE clones, anyone tried Aether & Iron? Looks bad but I've been wrong before.
>>738992874The art of Kender is a huge red flag alone.
>>739019156One, it's not distinct enough and too clearly inferior, which is a big debuff compared to sharing traits but actually trying to do its own thing. Two, it's simultaneously too Coldsteel and too self-referrential, and those two don't mix. At all. It breaks the spell and feels artificial, and too clearly feels manipulative. Several scenes start but don't commit to the bit like Harry would, instead they pause and self-referrential "haha isn't this wacky/dystopian fellow DE enjoyers". The effect is instead of making a cohesive world you dive in, it reveals itself as a cheap parlor aping something which it self-professed is an inspiration.Given the context several points also felt like they were crowbarred in by an exec going "You need to add it like that because DE did it here" and either they came back to neuter it, creating halfbakedness, or the writer felt put upon and it never found its own footing, so the scene falls flat.
>>739019643I see. However I must apologize anon. I thought it was DE that you said was awful and was heavily insisting upon itself.
