>dev refuses to ever put game on sale

how do (You) personally get back at developers for pissing you off?
>>

Sales make zero sense. If a game is worth $20 then it's worth $20, does its worth randomly change with time?

Worth is determined by the customer and what they are willing to pay. That is why things go on sale; to sell to the customers who do not believe it is worth the normal asking price.
>>
I dunno what to say, anon. They aren't going to change their minds on this because of your 40th thread crying about it. Get a job or something, or maybe just get another game?

You have to use jewy tricks to be seen as a good guy dev.
Should have priced it at $30 and have frequent 33% off sales.

>buying the game on steam and linking it to an account on wube's website let you download a standalone, drm-free copy of it.
Devs are incredibly based.
>>
>>739000141
No, but the number of consumers willing to pay more for the game does. To say otherwise is context denial. A game will sell the most copies on its first release unless subject to a later rerelease. Sales of the initial release trickle off because everyone willing to pay full price to get it at launch already did so. Putting a game on sale is a means of making money off customers who wouldn't otherwise be customers.
Since it costs nothing but server hosting space to distribute a digital copy, a video game also isn't something that can be sold at a loss since it's supply is infinite
>>
>>739000025
Two options:

1. Put game on sale
>people who bought the game are less happy
>people who didn't think your game was worth the price originally are happier.

2. Never put the game on sale
>everyone who bought the game and were happy with the price are happy
>people who don't think your game is worth the price and haven't played it are unhappy
>>
what do you even do in this game
>>
>>739000025
Paying 5 % of its original price on third party sites makes devs extremely butthurt.

Hivemind, one guy, all, the same
>>
>>739001008
I like the dev's idea for pricing since it offers more to people who've already bought the game.

Normal sales:
>Game releases for $60, price targeting early adopters
>Sales snag people on the fence about it by gradually lowering the price
>No incentive for buying in early since you pay more other than you get the game earlier than others
>Eventually, people stop buying games at full price, have to game the system like releasing for $100 and doing 50% off sales just to move anything

Factorio:
>Game releases at $20 in a beta state
>Evaluate the game's content, decide it's not worth picking up because the content is too light
>Instead of lowering the price, the dev continues to add more content
>Eventually there's enough content in the game that the $20 is worth it, pick it up

>Early adopters pay the same as everyone else and continue to get more content, meaning the game they bought appreciates in value
>Later purchasers pay the same price, so there's no incentive to wait for a cheaper sale

I'd rather a game I bought keep getting content after the fact rather than cash out and try and get Ivan, Jose, and Pajet's few pennies.

I bought so many games on GOG during the insomnia sales days. Now it's mostly good sales during the Summer and the Winter GOG sales.

You're just doing what the devs wanted.

If there was more actual competition for Factorio a lower price might actually make sense.
So far we have
Satisfactory (Released. Costs more than factorio)
Captain of industry (Early access that already has DLC)
Dyson sphere program (Early access)
Star Rupture (Early access)
The Crust (Early access)
Foundry (Early access)
and on and on it goes. There's a few that are released but they're usually far different than factorio. Mindustry is literally free but is combat focused tower defense.
Shapez2 is cheaper but is focused on blueprint building with no combat.
Desynced released but most people are too dumb to be able to play it (like me)
>>
So how was Space Age? I felt it was too long, you need to basically complete the original game before you even think about space platforms or reaching new planets and it burned me out by the time I could reach Aquilo.
>>
>>739000025
>>pirate it and refuse to ever pay for said game
the dev has gone on record and said pirate it if you need to, you're just paying for forum services and ease of mod support. you're not getting back at anybody.
>>
>>739003397
Some good and a lot of bad, but I realized after trying out Space Exploration that it could've been much worse.
>Vulkanus is boring, Fulgora is good, Gleba is annoying, Aquilo is a non-entity
>Shattered planet endgame is non-existent
>Quality is cancer and leads to tons of retarded shit: upcycling, recyclers, tiny factories becoming the meta, train logistics completely demolished by legendary prod modules
>One space depot per planet is stupid
>There's just barely not enough tools to make handling spoilage not annoying
>Limiting building production to specific planets is retarded
But it could've been much worse. Space Exploration's retarded expensive rockets, silly long space science production chains and as far as I can tell no good way of efficiently transporting fuel is so much worse.
>>
>>739000025
Either play the game or don't, why do you have to justify if you boughted or pirated, who gives a shit.

>>
>>739004149
>>Vulkanus is boring, Fulgora is good, Gleba is annoying, Aquilo is a non-entity
Vulcanus is amazing for making retardedly good smelting facilities, it's like playing with cheats on.
I agree Fulgora is great once you work it out. Either by bots or a chain of conveyors sorting and recycling everything
Gleba sucked ass. I figured it out and got it working without needing my attention after a while, but I still hate the place. Luckily, once you get it the base there can be tiny
Aquilo looks pretty but the whole thing is just shipping everything there. You essentially have to make a big cargo ship and deliver an entire base there because you can't do fuck all on that frozen dead world.
Quality was fun, if only to make an unnecessary rare mech suit that could run at sanic speeds, but I'll never bother with that again because it was pointless after all the effort.
>>
>>739003113
Who said anything about being mad? In the first scenario, I stop buying games at full price, or at all unless they're heavily discounted. In the second, I buy a game at full price with the idea that the value will appreciate it, making my purchase better over time. I am more likely to pay more and sooner in the second scenario, provided the developer has thus far delivered.

A sale is simple quick liquidation, wringing out the last few drops from a market that otherwise wouldn't purchase a game to begin with. The only way a sale benefits me is if a static product released that I would never be interested in buying at the current price, thus lowering it to an amount I find agreeable, which is typical for the vast majority of games. Those are the sort of games that clutter up my library and never get played except for once as consumable entertainment, good for a weekend only.

For a game I'm truly interested in and going to keep playing, I'd far rather it be the second option and improve over time. There's so few games worth playing these days that something actually good coming out is worthwhile sale or not.
>>
>>739003397
I feel like space age was too backloaded, that sort of design would be good for a linear game like an RTS or whatever, but the expansion would've benefited from more interaction with space early.

Like, allowing the player to start on different planets, with a modified tech tree to support it, would've been a lot of fun and added variety to the early game. Until you have blue science going, the game is largely the same as the base game, which isn't great since a player will likely restart or play on different worlds semi-frequently.
>>
>>739000365
So buy it directly from the devs then https://factorio.com/buy
>>
>>739002321
it makes me realize just how fucking clairvoyant gabe was to set their cut at 30%. yes it's high but everyone sucks it up because valve has a virtual monopoly. the only companies that can afford to challenge them are massive billion dollar firms and the ones that have tried (ubisoft, EA, epic) fail spectacularly. are their platform cuts less than valve's? they're the only ones that could afford to lower the cut too to be more developer' friendly

Making some basic tech planet-specific was idiotic
>No, your engineer really cannot figure out how to blow up cliffs until he single handedly comes up with space travel to this system's equivalent to Mercury and builds a base there, why do you ask?
>Artillery? No, that's also on not-Mercury.
>The spidertron? No, you need to research bio-engineering on a shitty swamp world to work that out. No it doesn't matter that you'll have the new and superior mech suit by that point most of the time.
It's just so arbitrary.

You could always cheese it by saving, building the base, blueprinting it, then reloading and stamping the blueprint
That way your design time is not counted against you

But what helped me to not do that was watching speedruns and seeing how much they build in the early game
Specifically they had 8-10 assemblers set to gears, pipes, copper wire, and green circuits that they hand-feed
Here's a run in 2:19 with a random seed, default settings, no imported blueprints

>>739000025
>dev thinks he made a good game and asks a reasonable price for it
It's based to sell your game for pennies, and piracy is based, and nintendo wanting to nickel and dime you for 50+ year old games is jewish, but I can respect a solo dev with enough faith in his game that he doesn't feel the need to put it on sale to get people to buy it.
>>
>>739010695
For good reason. A few years back the game was getting review bombed by the woke crowd because one of the devs told them to eat shit when they tried one of their little struggle sessions on him.
Despite the ton of NPC-posted negative reviews screaming about "nazis" and "bigots" the review score never dipped from Overwhelmingly Positive. That's how damn good Factorio is.
