They're both great in their own ways. FF8 is mechanically complex, whereas FF9 is a much more straightforward experience.

FF9 is the greatest game of all time, but you should play FF7 first if you've never played it. also, don't emulate FF9 if you can help it, even a shitty laptop should run PC version with Moguri mod, aka the best way to play it you'll have fun with 8 too though
