its really fucking good and no one ever told me.

Literally everybody and their parents and their kids have told you that Dead Space 1 and 2 are great games.

Now why nobody has been able to recreate them or even get close is the true mystery.

Disregarding the kneejerk contrarians literally the only single consensus opinion I can think of though all of /v/ history is that DS 1 and 2 are some of the best games ever made.

I seem to vividly recall everyone's mom hating Dead Space 2. Anyone else remember that?
>>
>>739016323
1 and 2 were fantastic, 3 sucked because of typical EA ruining a good thing
Thinking back this was a rare game where people didn't complain about a voiceless, faceless, main character suddenly talking and being shown a lot

3 is still good as in, it's very seamless and controls nicely, and I have a soft spot for the Brethren Moon concept that unravels in the 3rd act. But the rest of 3 was very repetitive and tedious. I just think a lot of people skipped 3 based on reputation and I think you should at least play it.

The design and aesthetic of 1 and 2 are top tier Sci fi, sad to think it's trapped in a dead universe beholden to EAs fuckery

I played the first two for the first time years back.
1 bored the fuck out of me. Its so predictable and repeatedly does the same exact shit of spawning an enemy with a scare chord and thinking youre spooked when it's the same fucking enemies you've been fighting all game.
2 was absolutely incredible, one of the coolest games ever and filled with imagination in its setpieces and combat scenarios. The story is much better too cause isaac is actually vocal, and the gameplay is more dynamic, they better tie in isaac's engineering background to the gameplay and story.
Never gonna play 3, and i dropped the remake after a single hour of gameplay.

It was fun back in the day seeing people on places like gamefaqs getting turbo mad at the seeker rifle ("its a sniper rifle in a game where combat is barely beyond arms length!!!") and then getting even more mad when the soldier suit ONLY buffs the seeker rifle. Real knowers know how absurdly OP the seeker is.

Explain, the only use I had for it was against those small necromorphs that pop out of that pregnant necromorph.
Outside of that it was too weak and needed too many nodes to become decent.
The nodes I spent on it are better spent on the suit and the ripper or the plasma cutter.

>>
>>739018549
It's a perfect panic weapon. Very easy to use, stunlocks enemies, huge ammo capacity so don't need to worry about reloading, deals damage fast, the few enemies that it's not great against can be grenaded. Its only downside is that it's ammo hungry.
>>
>>739016323
Dead Space 2 is the absolute apex of perfection in regards to everything Resident Evil 4 first established. I think it should rank somewhat higher on any tier list just due to the fact there are no "that part" sections of the game, unless you consider the drill section one of them.

There was nothing wrong with voicing Isaac, but they made a major mistake in making him blabber all the time and swear like crazy. He should've been mute for most of the time, talking like crazy after being mindraped by Marker and the government, and his moments of rage needed to be more reserved.
I guess that's just one of the big downsides that naturally came with the game turning into a shooter with horror elements than vice versa.

No, it's shit. It killed Dead Space as a franchise because they pivoted towards shooter shit and created incredibly unrealistic expectations for EA with their success. >>
>>739016323
I just got through replaying the series a few days ago. 2 is the best easily, 1 is second, and 3 is obviously the worst. 2 has one of the best first 5 minutes in any videogame ever made and improves on the first in every way.

3 isn't terrible just because they turned it into a co-op, microtransactiony shitfest with storyline-breaking side missions to get more EPIC LOOT to make BETTER GUNS, but because they went way, way overboard with the unitology angle and turned it from getting out of a shitty situation alive into saving the universe. Isaac himself turns from Gordon Freeman The Space Engineer into an unwilling guinea pig having to make sense of what the hell is going on and why, and finally into a sadsack that finds out he has something to live for, but he's stuck in a shitty, terrible story so it comes off corny.

Once fully upgraded it basically 1shots everything with piercing damage and it has an AoE alternative attack with a stun effect. It is by far the most OP weapon in the entire game and you dont even need to aim it properly because the beam has a massive radius.

>>
>>739046579
guy got stabbed by the discord troon gang
>>
>>739047407
It's this low because of terrible ammo efficiency. Unless you go out of your way to kill multiple necros with one shot you'll only break even at best.
>>
>>739016543
That can be fixed with a patch.
>>
>>739047561
True, then again you only start using it pretty late in the game. You sell everything you got, buy the nodes to fully up it and dump what credits you have left in ammo. Enemies also mostly drop ammo of the weapons you have equiped which is why you got to sell your other weapons. You run into an enemy mob, use the alt fire and just rip everything apart with the beam.
>>
>>739016323
1 will always get points for me for paving the way and being something new on release while 2 stands on its shoulders but I genuinely think 1 is stronger in characterization and atmosphere, whereas 2 has better gameplay until I pick up an item and it doesn't make the picked item up sound it is supposed to and becomes completely unplayable.
>>
Theory: all guns in Dead Space can be measured on the three axes of versatility, ammo efficiency and power. These three qualities fully describe each weapon.
>Versatility: in how many situations is the gun viable?
>Ammo efficiency: how much ammo can you save when you want to save it?
>Power: how safe does the gun keep you when you don't care about ammo?
Plasma Cutter: A, B, C
Pulse Rifle: S, C, A
Javelin Gun: A, C, B
Force Gun: C, C, A
Flamethrower: D, B, F
Ripper: D, S, C
Seeker Rifle: B, A, B
Line Gun: B, D, A
Detonator: D, C, D
Contact Beam: A, F, S
>>
>>739048271
I'd make Force gun B/B/S thanks to the alternate fire finally giving it a ranged attack that isn't a bouncy ball. Good for medium ranges, blasts limbs off, and you can still use the primary fire as a "get off me" button or as a way to set up shots from other weapons. Detonator should just be F across the board. Ammo economy isn't great, it's gimmick means you either know where enemies will be coming from, or you just slap them everywhere and hope an enemy walks into it. Factor in some sections you just can't use it at all (the solar grid being the biggest offender) and you have a weapon that feels like it was made for 1 new enemy type...but is shit at all other moments.
>>
>>739048425
Minelayer is pretty good when facing stalkers or to create a safe area for yourself when enemies can come from multiple directions. Also decent to clear mobs of those little fucks

One day maybe I'll understand people insisting that Dead Space, a game where you walk around until something punches through a vent and shrieks, is a masterful slow-burn horror game compared to 2, a game where you just get right get to things punching out of a vent and shrieking.

>>739048989
That's the only enemy it's good at, and all other times you have to either have prior knowledge of enemy spawn locations to know where to place the mines for full effect, or just wing it and place them in obvious pathways. For the Pack, even the flamethrower is better at dealing with them and dealing that extra tick of damage to make them drop loot. The detonator is a neat idea, but not a good weapon.
>>
>>739056584

That's the beauty of the series and of the name itself. The universe isn't dead or silent because there wasn't anything out there, it's quite literally been exterminated over millennia by civilizations finding markers and activating a species wide purge. It's the reality of space as we know right now. Is it more terrifying to believe we are alone in all the cosmos, or get a response, but not know who or what is on the other end.

2 and 3 stand in perfect contrast to each other. They are perfect examples of what a sequel to a horror classic can develop into and what a sequel to a horror classic should avoid turning into. The escalation of certain aspects of story and gameplay that keeps track of core aspects of the title vs an escalation that doesn't.

DS2 doesn't need a remake. It's the perfect game. The only thing I'd tolerate is updated visuals (a "remaster"). Literally just higher poly versions of the original meshes, higher resolution textures, updated lighting engine. No ray tracing, no DLSS/FSR/TSR or other slop blur filters. No fucking anti soul gas, they overused the fuck or if it in the DS1 remake. With a remake they would fuck with the story in annoying ways and it would definitely end up worse off overall. With DS1 more of an argument could be made for a remake since some of the mechanics were clunky like zero g.

Kinda would have been the best ending for Dead Space to be honest. A triumphant but saddening victory to know you finally win, but won't get to go back. Plus knowing that Ellie made it out finally absolves Issac of his guilt and torment of not being able to have saved anyone but himself in the first game. Or the fact he's finally at peace and can relax after all the shit he's been through between necromorphs and having his brain fucked around with. God I love Dead Space 2 so fucking much.

Earth-Gov caught Issac's shuttle and took the data off of his flight recorder. Of course they're going to:
A) Check where he initially left from
B) Get the fucking Ishimura out of there once they found out his ship came from Aegis VII and they searched it
C)Take it back alongside him to investigate what happened

Which all leads to 2 things. Replicating a marker for their own use, and subsequently using the Ishimura's logs/recordings to put failsafes in place so another event like that wouldn't occur.
>>
Worth buying a serie x to replay all the kino games from before? I don't own new gen consoles and don't give a shit about them. How's it working? You access the xgoy store and old games are there or do you need the physical discs?

Digital downloads or disk, the trilogy plus Ignition all work on there. Not sure if it's worth buying a whole ass console just for the trilogy, but you'll not get the problems of the PC ports or lack of ported content. Plus the emulation give FPS boost, so while they don't get resolution boosts it plays pretty good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJhk8gBIXvE
Honestly, a valid reason for buying an Xbox nowadays is back compat, but some games do need discs or just don't work. Not sure if they really will continue expanding the catalog like they claim they would again.

>>
>>739086929
Nope, unfortunately not. But if you're on a gaming PC you can run them in RPCS3 without much issue nowadays besides maybe certain tweaks for the visuals. Or at least AC4/4A do, I think V/VD was still kind of a bitch. Sony's put the AC1 games on Playstation Network, but actually hunting for PS1 classics is kind of dogshit on their stuff if you're not name hunting. All the PS2 games are PC emulation only right now, though not without their own quirks her and there.

If you really want to revisit PS1/PS2 AC on PC, though, there's dual analog controls hacks to make them play like the later games.

>>
>>739086425
They're all digital, but you can use the discs for them excluding Ignition if you want. Dead Space isn't improved much aside from a 16x antistropic filter, but 2 and 3 have an FPS boost up to either 60 or 120fps, can't remember. The neat part is if you have a TV or monitor that supports HDR, you can turn on a software level function called AutoHDR that gives the games HDR which can improve colors although in some games, mainly Fable/Jade Empire (I think), it doesn't necessarily work correctly.

Non bathrooms evaluation:

For all the story blunders of the 1 remake its real claim to fame, the seamless explorable Ishimura, was fucking incredible. But that would be basically impossible to do with 2, and would only lead to bloat considering just how massive the sprawl is and how little of it is plot relevant. That’s my theory on why they really stopped development on a remake. They couldn’t do the sequel thing of giving you more of what made the original good. 2 HAS to be linear, and that would feel like a step backwards no matter what else they changed.
>>

They probably hadn't thought of Brethren Moons when DS2 came out, but it's still a neat little detail in retrospective.

>>
>>739092135
Even what the markers are changed between 1 and 2, there's no way plans were there for the MOOONS already by 1. It's called Dead Space because it's in space, things are dead, and also Dead Space is thematic for the quiet of the floating husk of the Ishimura.
>>
>>739092190
Watch any of their documentaries or behind the scenes. The entirety of Dead Space was to end with a world ending consciousness finding Earth because humans fell into the same trap every other species in the cosmos did.
>>739092272
Its called Dead Space, and the creators even say it, because everything has been exterminated by them. Why in the FUCK do you THINK(?) they used the twinkle twinkle little star as their trailer song? Its not that we found them, its that they find US.
>Then you show your little light, twinkle twinkle all the night, then the traveler in the dark, thanks you for your little spark..
