like, in the context of elden ring in a vacuum its not all that bad to deal with because the game gives you so many different tools to vaporize her with, or to negate a lot of the bullshit she doesbut with the context of the souls series, it is the capstone of the shitshow that is elden ring boss design, and the best showcase of "game designers that totally lost the plot"unless you are willing to play into much of the bullshit that makes the game easier (vast majority of players arent willing or at least specifically dont like to), its an insanely frustrating move to deal with, and breaks virtually all of the preestablished rules the game creates with youthe game does this every hour for 200 hours, so its not like it should be surprising that it does this, but its still never not frustrating, just an exercise in >"oh great, another supremely bullshit thing i have to completely sidestep the difficulty for because dealing with it normally would be such an insane headache it would put me off playing in the first place"like 99% of the content in the game

Hell, we know they were actively tuning her difficulty based on this because she was nerfed immediately after the game release where her second type of Waterfowl Dance was cut and she was changed to only use the move at somewhat set HP %.They could have given her the fluidity and aggression of Rellana and her chip healing and both versions of her Waterfowl Dance if they just wanted to make her hard. That Malenia has a mostly simple moveset except for Waterfowl Dance is entirely intentional.
