I just finished this, and now you're going to tell me why it's shit.
>>
It isn't
>>
>>739019730
Was a remake instead of a new game with new levels and story. Had some new items and the evo lines from the related species but that's it. Granted, at least that was the completed Pokedex from its time, unlike Gates to Infinity.
>>
I prefer sprites. I get they were going for the official artwork look, but without any quality animation to match, it looks bad. Thus is the fate of high-fidelity graphics.
>>
I like time/dark/sky better
>>
>>739019730
i played the shit out of the blue rescue team as a kid, so i love it with all my heart, but explorers of the sky is a muuuuch better game
>>
I don't see a single disagreeable post ITT thus far
>>
I don't like being forced to play as my starter in town, I want to change pokemon, I liked being able to do that in the original
>>
>>739021478
This. Strolling through town as Jirachi was cool as fuck.

you already knew why before making this thread
>>
>>739019730
>now you're going to tell me why it's shit
Wasn't followed up by Explorers DX.
>>
>>739021478
you couldn't change your lead until postgame tho
>>
>>739021612
also
>no ralts starting companion

ultra mega gay from nintendo part
>>
>>739019730
Gummi changes means you can't slowly raise a godlike mon
>>
>>739019730
One complain i have about rescue team is how you can only evolve in the post-game, i would have loved to be able to evolve during the main quest or even them being part of the story.
>>
>>739021654
But you can still do it at some point
>>
>>739022026
unless the remakes no longer let you do that it would be the same.

Horrible remake that removed friend areas

Remake slop, you can play red rescue with nso.

it's, like, fine. but explorers of sky is 1000x better.
t. actively playing it on my phone after playing that one and being left unsatisfied compared to my memories. explorers of sky just has so much more soul.
>>
>>739022092
No one ever used or cared about friend area's and you know it
>>
>>739019730
Neutral action being removed for "auto-use best available move" was an actual bad change.
It reduced your options for conserving PP, dealing a weaker finishing blow when a full strength move isn't needed, and removed a way to conveniently advance one turn without moving.
That's my only real complaint with it.

Now where's the next PMD game? Please, I'm desperate.
>>
>>739021654
post game is like 99% of the game in RT
>>
>>739022502
man it's sad people play actually play games in this way
I feel bad for you thirdies, at least get a controller
>>
>>739022536
>Now where's the next PMD game? Please, I'm desperate.
Anon, you KNOW that it will never be the way you want it to be. You have seen the kind of Pokémon games they have been putting out lately.
>>
>>739022639
Gamefreak is unrelated to PMD
>>
>>739022560
it's a DS game and built for stylus input, and my phone has a stylus. a controller would unironically be clunkier and slower than playing as intended.
>>
>>739019730
it's worse than the OG but still good.

>>739022639
imo the only not great mystery dungeon was gates to infinity so i'm sure they could still do it.
>>
Looks worse than the original
>>
>>739022536
Removing the basic attack was a good thing, it made PP management actually important and meant you couldn't just load up on Proteins and blast through post-game dungeons just spamming A.
And you can still skip turns with R + A, like you could with B + A in the original.
>>
>>739022524
I did, I'd often go chill with my recruited pokemons while admiring the scenery
>>
>>739022720
>and built for stylus input
mystery dungeon is literally one of the few DS games you can play without touch input????
>>
>>739022536
>Neutral action being removed for "auto-use best available move"
Wait they actually did that? Jesus Christ what a shit choice
>>
>>739019730
I love the game. It's great.
>>
>>739022814
It's still built for touch input, with commands you can do with a stylus but not with a controller (like moving across a room in 1 press).
>>
>>739022935
it is but god it's so fucking clunky to play a dungeon crawler like that with a stylus lmao
>>
As a long time fan of the Mystery Dungeon (since explorers of sky release) I genuinely adore this remake. It perfectly captures the watercolor aesthetic of the first game.
While nothing could replace the feel of the original spritework, I feel if a Pokemon fan were to ask whether or not they should start with the original or the remake, I would wholeheartedly recommend the remake - because I feel gameplay and visuals are the superior experience for the story, which remains unchanged and unaltered.
It's sad a game made with so much love and artistic talent went largely under the radar. Although, in spite of all that Ive said, I really hope they *dont* do a DX for Explorers of Sky. I do not believe even this games art direction could recreate or improve it's awe-inspiring beauty. Let it Rescue Team DX remain as a cult classic, just as the series is nowadays.
>>
>>739022639
anon mystery dungeon sold like 3M tops on a 120M something ecosystem while being motherfucking POKEMON, its jover, we are never getting another mystery dungeon spin-off

>>739022959
It really isn't, it controls very well especially if you use a custom layout to make it easy to tap L+A in 1 press of the stylus. that's pretty much the only thing in the entire game you'd want to press buttons for rather than tapping the bottom screen.
t. a little less than halfway through the main campaign so far
>>
>>739023076
i remember getting to the floating island and dropping for some reason, i think it was because i pick up Radiant Historia and just got hyper hook on that one.
>>
>>739023156
that's a decent part of the game, iirc it's the first legendary fight? but yeah I've dropped many good games for other games and just never returned to them, Explorers of Sky is worth a revisit if you ever feel like it.
>>
>>739019730
Now play Shiren Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island.
>>
>>739023684
nah
>>
>>739019730
Looks like ass. The gba version was perfect.
>>
It makes no sense that only the leader's hunger meter goes down while walking.
>>
>>739019730
I got filtered by rayquaza's tornado tower. I think i was playing the wrong and you are supposed to go with whatever you can recruit in the dungeon instead of briging your low level bros.
>>
>>739025937
You can't recruit Pokemon in the sky tower until AFTER you beat Rayquaza. The trick is the fact that his health doesn't reset when your party wipes, so you can just try again and again until you eventually whittle his health down to zero.
>>
>>739019730
This remake was so shit it killed off all momentum for a new PMD game
>>
>>739019730
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon are those games where you have to play as a baby pokemon all game, right? Because thats incredibly lame.

Would rather play as a cool samurai dude like Shiren or a fat bastard merchant like Torneko than a stupid fucking Torchik.
>>
>>739027994
depending on the game you can pick some better ones. my last playthrough was meowth and riolu.
>>
>>739028070
>meowth and riolu
That is pretty good.
>meowth is cooler in his first form
>riolu is cooler as lucario
I just realized evolution could work as a temporary transformation until you leave the dungeon. So you don't miss out on a starter you like but you still get to be a kickass Charizard sometimes. Nintendo should hire me I'll revive their gay ass series.
>>
>>739028664
I'm pretty sure at least in Explorers you just get to choose who to evolve and when, you can always keep Meowth as Meowth.
>>
>>739028664
isn't that what super did with megas
>>
>>739022524
The friends areas were comfy as fuck with some of the best music in the game.
>>739022536
This + reducing the encounter rate of spikes in early maps were weird choices.
>>
>>739028982
Yes, the scarf worked as a temporal boost
>>
It’s very weird why reviews fucking hate this series, like always, every single time they hate it.
>>
>>739030615
Dunno why, but it taught me early not to trust them, so I'm sort of grateful they hate it cause of that.
Then again their shit reviews probably put a good dent in the sales numbers...

desu they are all flawed games, in different ways but still.

Explorers (especially Sky) has a great and generally mature adventure story, all existing Pokemon at the time can be recruited, the spritework is beautiful, and the gameplay is generally good, but it does lack some QoL in important areas that can make things a slog. Like you can only "set" one move for a 2 button keybind, and using the other 3 moves requires going through multiple menus to select a move to use. This adds up to a LOT of wasted time. As do some other choices like the paths you need to walk sometimes being picky about lining up your character, for example the "guild" has you live underground and you need to go up a ladder twice to get to the overworld you do most things from and the ladder is oddly picky about you needing to stand perfectly centered to get on it while you're not locked to a grid outside of dungeons.

They fixed this sort of stuff in later entries, like L+ABXY lets you do any of your 4 moves and in some of them you save time by the game selecting a move it thinks is good for you if you just press A to attack (even if people dislike that, for kids that want to save time it saves a LOT). But looking at Super for example, the story is pretty mind-numbingly bad at times with a childish school setting (pic related) taking up a lot of time and holding things back, compared to Explorers having you treated as an adult getting a job and watching your boss take 90% of the money you earn because that's life, kid. The 3D graphics must have saved them a ton of dev time just importing all the Pokemon models, but they lost so much charm and the game is visually less interesting, and the connection orb system they came up with is very hit or miss.

You can actually mod Explorers of Sky and get a damn amazing version of the game, but reviews aren't looking at future modded versions.
>>
>>739030615
Normalfag reviewers are not cut for dungeon crawling autism. Mystery Dungeon is far above their faculties.
>>
>>739030615
Spinoffs get shit on no matter how good they are. You have this group of elitist who only want 1 thing and that's the original series or the original game refed to them for the hundredth time and making a game that changes the formula, let alone the genre is like stabbing someone in the back and for pokemon "fans", they can't stand the idea of the games trying something different.
>>
>>739031306
>You can actually mod Explorers of Sky
I tried explorers of the skies
Didnt get far cause i had to other stuff but i liked the shorcut for the other moves
I was kinda fucked by the harder enemies in the first 2 dungeons
Are there other mods that dont make the game harder?
>>
>>739033579
https://hacks.skytemple.org/ is how I modded it back in the day and it works well, you put in a clean ROM and modify it however you want. There are plenty of mods to make things easier, for example XP share to all the guys not in your party is one option to greatly reduce grinding and give you more viable options for your team. Lots of QoL and even just some basic bugfixes. Just be aware the app does set off virus alerts since it's a program capable of editing other files.

>>739022639
PMD is made by Koichi Nakamura. A man who learned about rogue in the 90s, and proceeded to make nothing but clones of it for the next 30 years.
>>
>>739033771
Gonna check them out
Thanks
>>
>>739030615
Because "games journalists" are really fucking bad at video games. Especially roguelikes, by which I mean actual, honest to god roguelikes. Even if PMD is ultra casualized to allow children to beat it, it's still requires more forethought and strategy than your average modern game where everything is given to you with no risk of failure.
>>
>>739033916
Now that is a man who is doing what he loves
>>
>>739033916
>The Nightmare of Druaga
I sincerely believe that game is harder than Rogue.
>>
I just want a Pokopia: Mystery Dungeon ....
>>
>>739027994
Super Mystery Dungeon has twists where you evolve throughout the story.
