Was firewatch actually good or was it an industry plant game? I remember in 2016 it got a bunch of glowing reviews and awards, but I always thought it sucked and the ending sucked. 5hrs of my time was wasted on this thing because everybody said it was good.

Did I miss something here?

it's not a game

It's your classical indie slop from that era : close to home depressing theme with vibrant visuals and primitive walking sim gameplay. It can work for you but it didn't work for me
>>
I'm pretty sure this "game" has no fail state.

not a game. mixtape comes from the same DNA this shit does. firewatch slop you could say.

Yeah and if you said anything bad about it you were getting attacked by people. Everything about this game felt forced and fake.
>>
Walking simulator with bad framerate/ frame drops.

>industry plant game
100%

You saw the guy randomly shilling it earlier too?

I remember being really confused by what the game was even trying to say. You were playing as some guy who decided to abandon their dying wife and work as a park full time, you do mundane park ranger stuff, learn about some guy who got his kid killed while they were camping and then try to meet your radio assistant who dodges you because you're obviously a creep, then the game ends.

Wouldnt that mean it was popular when it came out like 10 years ago?

money laundering?

It was overhyped but folks were legitimately excited since the first The Walking Dead game was so good.
>>
the voice acting was good and that's about it

The entire crazy conspiracy was a wish fullfilment distraction for the MC to feel good for a while but in the end reality isn't so magical and things must return to normalcy including facing his reality, in the same way the player must turn off the game and touch grass

Mixtape would've become a cult classic if it launched in 2016
>>

I liked the mystery story beats but as others said it wasn't really a game in any sense of the word and it was far too short. So short it felt like a ripoff.

I don't really understand how learning about a dad who got his son killed by pushing him too hard is supposed to be a magical escape from real life, so perhaps that's why I didn't read it that way.

Lame and gay.

Why? Why 2016? That year you had games like Inside and Valhalla which had better aesthetics and much more substance, either in terms of gameplay or story.

The older I get the more relatable he becomes.

The issue is nothing fantastical really happens in the first place.
>>
>>739029023
That's the shitty reality part, the MC and the woman on the radio were under the impression they were uncovering some epic government secret they weren't supposed to but it was just some else's forgotten personal tragedy.
>>
>>739029448
I guess that misdirection didn't leave an impression on me, because I don't remember it.
>>
>>739029023
Probably a half baked Quixotesque theme that simply didn't land due to the game being so short and uneventful.

I enjoyed the photo gimmick

All I remember about this game is PewDiePie was paid to promote it, and when the bridge incident happened the developer had a Twitter hissy about it.
>>
>>739028850
Don't think so, this shit would be fresh around gone home release, in 2016 it would be a little out of place

People who don't like the story were upset they were wrong, and that they don't get to be with Delilah.
It's like the series Adolescence, your mind latches on to "maybe"s when the most likely answer is upsetting.
Game looks good, and is well voice acted. It's also fun to never respond to any radio chatter unless required to progress, which makes Delilah spiral.

It's kino. The chemistry is unreal, the visuals are beautiful, the mystery and atmosphere is engaging. The ending also dissapointed me at first, then when I thought about it it was brilliant.

Its just a comfy/drama sim
