How is this compared to Morrowind? One thing I hear everyone complain about is level scaling but I’m wondering if that will be an issue if I just focus on completing quests and leveling up combat skills. Morrowind is the only TES game I’ve ever played and I only made it to the Third Trial of the prophecy so far but I really want to try Oblivion.

The level scaling will be a problem no matter what you do BUT it is a problem that you can solve completely with spell crafting/enchanting.

If you don't play on max difficulty its not that big of an issue. The first time I played it I didn't use any kind of guides and beat it without too much difficult using a magic build. I think I was level 17 when I finished, so as long as you don't get to a crazy high level you should be fine. When you play on max difficulty you have to be more autistic about efficient leveling.

The vanilla Oblivion way of leveling up is very similar to Morrowind in that the number of skills you level will correlate to how big the bonus you get when you level up. So you'd need 10 levels in Major and Minor skills related to Strength in order to get the x5 bonus when you level up. The problem with Oblivion is that ALL the enemies in the game will start getting more powerful and have better gear as YOU level up, so if you just grind a certain type of skill but don't do the "efficient" way of maximizing your bonuses, you'll be gimped in terms of power and fighting a bunch of obnoxiously tough monsters.

You have to read up on how to level efficiently or just install a mod to make the process less of a headache.

Aggressive level scaling is in every tes game but people who pretend to have played Morrowind wouldn't know about that. The scaling is fixed with a single click on PC for any of them so it's hardly a problem

The dungeons are really bad

Doesn't have the greatest gameplay but the vibe is all there. I can play some games just for the vibe - the music, the atmosphere, etc.

worse story, worse exploration, worse character progression, the worst mistake morrowboomers committed was not shitting enough on this game.

the complaints about level scaling are overstated. it really only starts to be a problem past like level 20. but if you play normally you probably wont even reach that point in normal gameplay. just play the game.

very disappointing. Morrowind is so unique in its world and culture and Cyrodiil is just a great value Peter Jackson's LoTR. it's a very middling fantasy game like Knights of Amalur
