The only thing it has in common with VNs is the screen layout and the theme of romance. Dialogue exchanges almost never go on for more than a minute, and they are not tied together in a way that tells a cohesive story. >>739045632I've only played the first Girl's Side game. I liked it quite a bit. The core gameplay loop is the same as the mainline Tokimeki Memorial games. Being as the game is a sequel, the gameplay is expanded with new mechanics and systems which I more or less think are all improvements. I especially enjoy the clothing system which is incredibly fleshed out and has a surprising amount of depth. The music is great. There's tons of content and secrets. It's a solid game. I like the original Tokimemo more, though. Girl's Side is missing that 90s Konami golden age soul that makes the original so special. Instead of having vibrant pixel art, the graphics are standard, (in my opinion) uninteresting cel art. It's way less wacky, and by extension less funny. I found it too easy (though, that's true of every Tokimemo game after the first one, so I guess I can't hold it against the game too much. I really like how difficult the bomb system is in the original. All of the sequels, Girl's Side or otherwise, lobotomized it). I haven't played Girls Side 3, but from what I can gleam from reading about the series online, that seems to be the fan favorite Girl's Side game, so maybe check that one out if you want to play one.
