what did Valve mean by this?

what gabe shits out the steamies gobble up simple as
>>
it's actually less powerful since most games are ported from ps5 so you can expect the performance to be around 20-30% worse.
ps5 can also play a lot of games with low raytracing settings as well where as the steamcube has zero chance of that being possible.
>>
>>739026693
they correctly identified that there's no reason for the PS5 pro to exist and have observed the total lack of interest in a PS6
>>
>they'll buy it anyway
>>
You also can't resell your Steam games like on the PS5.
>>
>>739026693
They better be delaying it to upgrade the specs. If this thing comes out being weaker than the base PS5 it is DOA.
>>
>>739027137
>the total lack of interest in a PS6
normies will change their tone when gta 6 comes out and the performance is equivalent to gta 5 on the ps3 and 360
people will be lining up and demanding for the ps6 just so they can play their normie npc game at 60fps
>>
it's equivalent to the based ps5 if such a thing existed, meaning it is superior to the normal ps5
>>
>>739027272
The fuck? Literally nobody plays games at 60 FPS on the consoles. It's always 30 FPS.
>>
>>739027038
You dont know what the fuck your talking about dipshit
Shut up
>>

is this like base 64 or
>>

A large percentage of Windows users running Steam have hardware that is older, weaker, and with less VRAM.
It isn't a bad purchase for the type of user who runs games at 1080p, and doesn't upgrade very often.
Windows is as much as 30% slower with the same hardware now in low VRAM vs GNU/Linux based OSes, so it will be hard for any other PCs to touch its performance for the price.
>>
>>739027038
People shoved linux in the PS5, and the performance is basically the same as the native games, even with fucking proton.
>>
>>739026693
>Just in time for FSR 4.1 implementation
They must've had something to do with that.
>>
>>739027137
>total lack of interest in a PS6
For Sony's sake, they better not release the damn thing next year like what all the rumors say lately. Fucking crazies, PS5 generation hasn't even fucking started yet.
>>
I can see ps6 coming out really soon, maybe in 2028.
ps5's cpu is incredibly shit by modern standards.
>>
>>739027272
The problem is that you can't make a significantly better PS6.
All the raytrace cope, all the DLSSLOP AI cope, the lack "lites", all come from the same problem: Transistors no longer get cheaper.
Until 2010, transistors would halve the price every 18 months, but no longer.
If you want twice the transistors, you pay twice the price.
>>
>>739028485
easy lol, just give it an x3d chip and a gpu equivalent to a 5070/9060xt which can easily upscale and there you have a ps6 which will be good for the next 8 years.

Fixing PC gaming optimization that Microsoft helped destroy.

>>739027747
The Steam hardware survey was bugged. Just google "steam hardware survey error" and read about it. They built the Steam Machine based on flawed hardware data and also by accounting for the many CS2/Dota2 bots or third-worlders playing on toasters.
>>
>>739028836
The card alone is 600 bucks.
We're talking about a $1000 machine here.
I imagine that you COULD create a cheaper arch by doing what the PS1 did and making a highly optimized ASIC machine.
But Kutaragi no longer works for sony.

I wish they'd have just poured the effort into a stronger Steam Deck, maybe even ripping off the Switch gimmick by letting you have per-game settings for docked and handheld
>>
>>739028969
Correction: by not* accounting for the CS2/Dota2 bots or third-worlders
Also, forgot to mention all the smurfs in Dota 2 who play on 10, 20 different accounts. So you can have someone from Peru playing on a gtx 770 who has 20 Dota 2 accounts. In Valve's stats, this will come out as 20 different people using gtx 770s.
>>
>>739029049
I said in 2028 and snoy/xbox can buy silicon in bulk which makes production way cheaper
>>
>>739029069
>letting you have per-game settings for docked and handheld
You can't do that without the devs building it in specifically for your device
>>
>>739028969
Even looking just at the better quality Western numbers which put Linux based OSes over 10%, there are a lot of users running Windows on older, weaker systems than the Steam Machine.
Systems that really can't handle how heavy and slow Windows 11 is. Something even Microsoft knows since they are at least spinning damage control that they have an internal project to 'fix' Windows 11.
Its not a bad long term support option for a particular type of PC Gamer who wants to buy a no hassle prebuilt, or for users new to PC Gaming.
>>
>>739029360
No they don't.
It's literally only TSMC that does it, and they have to fight appel and nvidia for it.
They're third class citizens in the new world context.
>>
>>739029069
They've already stated the steam deck 2 isn't an issue with more graphical power. They're unhappy with the current battery technology for powering these handheld PC's. The battery life is piss poor, they know it and they don't want to put out a 2nd Deck that only lasts an hour and a half on battery playing Elden Ring.
>>
>>739029360
>and snoy/xbox can buy silicon in bulk which makes production way cheaper
Lmao. Have you noticed anything in the global economy that might make that difficult? Rhymes with "gay guy"?
>>
>>739029069
Performance per watt gains aren't there yet because there isn't an RDNA 3 or RDNA 4 chip from AMD that would fit into the Deck's TDP. Stepping up the amount of memory to handle higher resolutions also wouldn't be a good move right now.
>>
>>739026896
Getting Wolverine and Phantom Blade. Woo hoo!
>>
>>739030024
Isn't battery tech getting better and better nowadays?
>>
>>739030284
They are, but not enough to allow a significant step up in system power on their own.
Valve would probably rather make a next-gen Deck that uses a newer generation chip to reduce power consumption, running longer, and putting less strain on a battery with a less dense but more stable long term cell chemistry.
>>
>>739030024
This is pretty much why they're going to use a binned Medusa Point, the one with RDNA 4m.
>>
They announced FSR 4.1 support for steam machine and deck. I think that's enough for living room gaming.

Base PS5 power is more than enough to play every great game ever made at an acceptable framerate.

>7 year old hardware for twice the price

>>739026693
And? What games are there that don't run on a base PS5?
>>
>>739026693
No? It promises 4k 60FPS with FSR. PS5 cant do that.

AMD's chips in that line tend to bottom out at 15W.
Deck needs a chip that maxes out at 15W and is running games comfortably under 10W.

Getting there by under clocking a larger die with a higher design power doesn't really cut it.
Especially not in the volume Valve needs for the Deck. This isn't a low-volume, high-cost device that can limit itself to golden binned chips.
>>
>>739026693
>PS5 but WITH games
i'll take it
>>
>>739032130
Medusa Point's pretty designed for handhelds and laptops, there will be chips ready by 2028. AMD will give Valve some cut-down variant with 6 cores. That would give them their 4-15W handheld out the gate.
>>
>>739026693
who cares, where's the damn steam frame

give me a steam fraaaaaaaaaaaaame
>>
>>739033564
I think Steam Frame will come out earlier. It seems more feature-complete atm. Steam Machine hasn't even resolved its alternative to the HDMI 2.1 thing as far as I know.
>>
>>739030284
no it has stalled out

Cutting edge industry use this year base 26 sir
