Since there has been a lot of discussion revolving around Mixtape, I wonder if there are more games like it. Not games that use it's glorified walking simulator gameplay, but it's "down-to-earth" coming of age story about kids doing stupid shit in a familiar suburban or urban setting.I noticed that there are a lot of games that have very elevated, fantastical, bombastic settings like science fiction, fantasy, etc, and I think one that's more grounded, and something more in line with, say, Napoleon Dynamite would be a breath of fresh air for me. A lot of these games with these fantastical settings can be a bit too much, and can burn me out.One game that comes to mind sometimes is Perfect Tides which is a point-and-click adventure game, I think it looks neat. Have you guys played it? If so, is it any good?
>>739029081Stick RPG, and I'm not even joking.
>>739029285OP here. I'll consider it, but I can't help but think it's still a bit elevated, stick figures and all.
>>739029682If you want a genuine "16 year old works at the local mall for 8 hours a day every Saturday" sim, then I don't think such an experience exists. Try lucid dreaming to find out how fun that really is.
>>739029081YIIK I guess? But that games sucks eggs. All the SMT and Persona gamesslightly younger but I think NatsuMon and the related summer break games capture a feeling of age very well
>>739029081i dont think you can make a game with compelling gameplay out of a mundane setting unless it's already a game or a sport to begin with (chess, skateboarding, football, pool, mountain climbing...)feel free to provide a counterexample. VNs and point&clicks dont count
>>739029081> Perfect Tidesmade by teh chick who makes octopus pie, one of the longest web comics ever and also ahs a copy of some of its volumes in the ,library of congress or something. It also ahs a sequel i believe, not sure if it is already released though. As for your question op i think night in the woods is pretty good albeit I really dislike the supernatural angle of the game, it was completely unnecessary.I also think persona 4 fits the bill somewhat since most of the dungeons are all about characters coming with terms with themselves.
Play Snootgame/Wani a Gator. Its the entire point as kids going through Senior Year.
I would would like to play more of these games because I never truly grew up and missed all the good stuff from my teenage/young adult years.
>>739031105is snoot legitimately good, or is it just reactionary trash? katawa shoujo predated your politics, and it was legitimate beautiful i don't trust you closeted homos anymore
>>739031401It had the same effect has the people read Katawa Shoujo a decade prior. It cause them to not want to masturbate anymore. Cavemanon decided to do it again with Wani the Gator and made lots of money, with 3372 Overwhelmingly Positive. They are now doing it again with Volcaldera Ashfall, but that mostly Cavemanon was retarded enough to trust the chinese to make the gator plushies and got scam, and need money fast.
I can't think of any that don't use magical realism. Persona 3 has a lot of elements of people looking to the future, and Yiik has themes of people trying to face the future held back by their pasts. But neither is wholly mundane
Coming of age is this most retarded goyslop even concieved. It's just a bunch of angsty teens going thorugh some banal drama that only women care about.
>>739029285This was the first time I ever saw a boob. Good times.
>>739029081
>>739031890High School has a different effect on everyone, man. People have things they cherish, and moments and choices they deeply regret. It's not just angsty teens, because you we one too. It's about how you write fictional characters to be relatable and good while still carrying those angsty traits.
>>739031890>It's just a bunch of angsty teens going thorugh some banal drama correct>that only women care about.debatable
>>739031401Are you implying anything reactionary is trash? Romaticism is reactionary, anon.
>>739032573Fake reactionary romanticism without a hint of genuine love is trash. You probably don't have the IQ to know 2 from 4, because this is modern 4chan, but there is a difference. You can't tell love from one-sided romantic rape.
>>739031401At some point i thought it was good. Nowadays i just find it mediocre. The thing with Snoot specifically is that is that it's very geared towards 4chan archetypes but in a sincere way, so it resonated with a bunch of internet people. Wani is a bit more bland, but a gator in a wheelchair is too intriguing to pass on.
>>739033083ROMANTICISM as in literally romanticizing beauty, aesthetics and idealism. Your favourite fantasy story is a romanticized story of the past that is governed solely by ideals. Without romanticism, the world is purely modern.
>>739033454I agree! ...What were we aguing about? I forget. Cheers!
>>739029081ezplay Degree of LewdityEarthboundPokemon XYThe Sims 2/3/4/5/6/7/89/849
>>739029081A good number of JRPGs have coming of age elements to them. Trails in the Sky, Grandia, Chrono Cross, and The Tales Of games, to name a few. I'm sure some of the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games as well. .hack//, Persona 4 and Mystery Dungeon come to mind as well.
>>739031401Snoot is good (though I played release version before the additional 'polish'), though a lot is because of /lit/ that saved it in editing.Wani is a blander paid repeat of Snoot.
>>739031890We have Coming of Age at home, it's called The Heroes Journey.
