why did they kill it? it was a good franchise
>>
>>739033076
didn't sold as much as ass creed
>>
>>739033076
they turned into an action series which then failed so it got shelved

I'd like to know that as well.
The stealth genre is never coming back and it makes me sad that barely anyone cares about it anymore since it's my favorite video game genre.
Ass Creed is just an awful series to have replaced it because it doesn't have any good mechanics at all in regards to most challenges. Hitman survived on the merits that you could still play it as an action game. Yet the most fun way to play Hitman is by obtaining the SA ranks in my personal opinion and less so what you can do with it's sandbox. However it never had focus on light movement and sound and thus there's a major hole in the genre today and this older aspect of design needs to come back. Which Styx somewhat helped fill the void on, except lacking the tactical operator aspect to it.

Half the games in the series sucked.
>>
>>739033076
It was an early case of the devs turning a series with a proven formula into something they thought would be more popular and, when that flopped, they treated it as the IP losing relevance instead of admitting they mishandled it.

have you played conviction? blacklist?
every Ubisoft franchise turned to shit.
every franchise of any studio turned to shit.
modern games are just shit.
>>
>>739038150
Conviction was the generic contemporary TPS one. Blacklist went back to stealth, with way more focus on how you can get through a level undetected and rewards specifically for not getting seen or killing anyone.

Everything after Chaos Theory was pure slop.

>Everything after Chaos Theory was pure slop.
The 6th gen version of Double Agent is the best game in the entire franchise

because the revolutionary open world idea they had evolved into a brand new franchise you may have heard about. you can't say there weren't attempts to continue splinter cell, but making it more and more action-based was not the solution.

conviction mogs

I like how only stealth games are being held to this insane standard of "realism".
>Oh, I alerted the guards and instead of them calling every single guard at the base, they just snooped around for 20 seconds and then returned to their posts
Its like how do you want stealth to work?
>>
>>739040848
it's just CT with smaller/even more linear levels and an edgy grimdark plot that was kind of a fad back then
>>
>>739041081
Problem with stealth is people just reload. Essentially, save scumming. Except when you disable manual saving people gripe about checkpoints or LACK of saving because they have to replay sections over and over again to stay undetected. There is no solution to stealth that would please everyone.

Because Michael Ironsides remporarily went into retirement to kick his cancer's ass (which he did), and instead of waiting for him they decided to make a new one with a new Shepard. And really I think people would've forgiven it if the game wasn't so mediocre.
Also as an aside, it was a product of a different time as the game is hilariously pro-glowie and I don't know how much people are down for that today.

>and instead of waiting for him they decided to make a new one with a new Shepard.
The game was already in production when he told them about the diagnosis and asked them to find someone else while he put everything into fighting that shit, but a lot of fans took it as wrenching the character away from a dying man.
>>
>MGS and Splinter Cell devs respect each other so much that they canonize each other's games as being in the same universe
>Fans of both games fling shit at each other like two tribes of monkeys
>>
>>739041081
That was only 3. In 1 and 2 AI was retarded where getting spotted meant everyone in a single area was psychically aware of your location at all times. But by 3 you could get spotted and kill the guy before he raised an alarm. Even then there were 3 stages of alarm
>>
>>739033076
Be happy it happend.
>>
>>739033076
Ubisoft went hard left and fired everyone who could use a gun. Their most recent attempt was Samir Fisher in Xdefiant, which of course sucked balls, and old sam in r6 siege.

>>739035931
It shouldn't be a hard concept. They have the engine for stealth assasins in Ass creed. They have military assets and shit from r6.

They don't have anyone competenbt anymore.
>>
>>739033076
Waiting to see if 007 does good
>>
1. momentum
2. monetary upside
when these two things don't exist for a franchise someone powerful at the corp would really need to stick their neck out for another game to get made. all things being equal it's going to stay in the back catalog.
