Taking bases was repetitive as fuck, but good game overall.

i remember collecting every piece of scrap or whatever they were called in every area for several hours. i would probably have had more fun beelining the magnum opus upgrades instead.

Good but repetitive. For a licensed game I couldn't ask for more.

The last great mid-budget game.

It was good. the bones for a truly amazing game were there. It just was missing more fleshed out "convoy" mechanics and needed some variety with the base clearing. The hidden unmarked locations across the wasteland you would stumble upon were a great detail.
The biggest gripe I had is that clearing the wasteland objectives did nothing to help you other than reducing enemy spawn rates. They could have done so much more with this.
It would have been really cool if the enemy strongholds were basically impervious and clearing wasteland objectives slowly degraded the base defenses and enemies. For example destroying the convoys would cause a fuel shortage that would turn off the flame thrower defenses and taking out sniper towers would allow you to approach the stronghold without getting spotted as quickly.
I have a soft spot for this game and really miss games like this

Another thing too would be once you clear up a zone you would see that zone's friendly warlord reclaiming some of the land, erecting monuments to their religion/culture, occupying checkpoints. Some of those characters were kino and cool like the fire cultists or the water cultists but you literally never see them outside of their main citadel. At least from what I remember. Like, imagine if the water cultists erected fish monuments or aquatic-themed shit. Would have made it feel like you were actually improving the world somewhat.

Best explosions in any video game ever.
