How are Gearbox still around?

I really like the first or even 2nd Borderlands, owned all the DLC but never played it though such as zombie island. Only two negatives i didn't have anyone to play with and going solo handed me over to my worst vice: Looting every last container on a map, which never gives you any rare or quality weapons unless specifically a hidden weapon cache
