not exactly super recent but deponia series was pretty decent

I tried playing Pillars of the Earth on two occasions and I just can't. It's too fucking slow. You spend more time piloting your character around, waiting through tedious animations, than you do pointing and clicking on shit.

Not a single puzzle in that game relies on trial and error, moon logic or requires some outside knowledge (like the infamous Shakespeare puzzle in Silent Hill 3).
