The Absolute Army is still advancing on Baldur's Gate it's just you as a small party were supposed to be able to move a hell of a lot faster than a giant horde of demihumans. Gortash's political scheming doesn't work without having a visible threat marching on Baldur's Gate as a compelling argument for why they should crown him their fukken Tyrant For Lifebut, yeah when you have a bunch of fairly unimportant sidequests and can Long Rest at your leisure the marching army doesn't seem terribly impending.

I played and enjoyed the entire series for the most part, but I'm really torn on which style of combat I prefer.TB is great for the epic handcrafted setpieces and boss battles, Raphael would never be as impactful if the battle was like 30 seconds long in real time.But at the same time there are moments when there are many enemies and turns take forever that you realize this system is not scalable at all, something like the war in the underground entrance between the elves and dark elves in BG2 would just not work here.
